She says she sings to bring joy to her God and to those in pain. The joy you mentioned on her face is real. She sadly was stricken with ovarian cancer in her early 20s and as a result is unable to bear children. She also battled pneumonia for years and almost quit singing but on a trip to the US she read the famous quote by FDR "The only thing you have to fear is fear itself". After reading that she decided it was time to sing again after having taken two years off. She came back with a vengeance and is now releasing amazing new songs. If you want to see some of the best vocals in the world watch her singing "Everyone". It literally brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Thanks for the great reactions!

I love 'The Star', their harmonies are amazing. This girl is 46. :) Well, amend that back a year for western ageing. In Korea you are considered to be 1 year old at birth. If you want to hear just how long she can hold notes I suggest "Fate" on I Am A Singer 2012. The one thing that wasn't mentioned about her recovery from cancer was that she contracted hepatitis through a blood transfer. This has given her years of bouts of pneumonia. She had thoughts of giving up singing back around 2017/18 and disappeared for some months to try and get well. I don't think she has had pneumonia for sometime now but there are times she sings and you can tell she isn't well. Sohyang has a lot of energy, a LOT of very positive energy. If you ever see an interview she practically bounces off the walls. Obviously she must draw on this for all of these performances, but it is best to still pick the right clips where she is well when possible. Remaining an independent artist is why you haven't heard of her before now, but once found its a rabbit hole.

You should look for the most popular links of her performances because they tend to be the most iconic performances where she’s in top form, rather than suffering from illness. I may have watched these out of order but I saw your reaction to ‘I will always love you’ but the version that most people see & she is known for is her performance of the song at the ‘beginning again Korea’ series, it’s different class as are all her performances from this series, which was a series of mini gigs to small socially distanced audiences during Covid. All her performances are amazing but there’s a reason why certain performances are iconic & I just feel that I want you to get the maximum out of your sohyang experience.
