This guy was massively underrated. In terms of mentality he must be one of the strongest players of his generation. A truly great player I admired during his career.
Ballack is a role model for any aspiring box to box player. He had everything technically but was also a leader and never panicked, when taking penalties and free kicks he was the calmest person in the stadium.
I am a Manchester united fan but watching Michael ballack run after the referee pleading for foul is one of the most heartbreaking moments in football I've seen
He was pivotal in germany's rebirth as a football powerhouse again at a time when Germany had mediocre sides and the likes of schweinsteiger, podolski, deisler, lahm, klose etc were just getting in. IMO he did two miss-steps 1) leaving bayern 2) going to chelsea, if he had gone to man utd it would have suited him to play alongside Carrick and Scholes plus he would have been a part of the all dominating utd side that won pretty much everything from 2006-7, 08, 09, 10 etc. Would have had loved to see him utd red but unfortunately he went elsewhere.
I wish he had a Reus or Draxler around him in the National Team. He would've won a least a trophy for DFB. Man truly is a Dark Knight. He made sure Germany were a top team between 2000-2010 when they weren't that good. Now nobody remembers him :(
I disagree, I preferred Ballack to make those runs into the box. Torsten Frings was very underrated and complemented Ballack well but remember there was the emerging Schweinsteiger and also the technically gifted Bernd Schneider so i can't really see how Reus or Draxler would have made a difference! Perhaps if Effenberg hadn't retired from International football then Ballack and Effenberg would have been incredible!
