It's not a nitpick. A large piece of WCW died when they started using this generic stage. I commented on the Halloween Havoc video that it's all downhill from there.
Crazy just how good Benoit could make anyone look good and I know Jarrett has his haters but major props to him for pulling double duty and being able to keep up with Benoit

David Flair's crazy storyline brought us Daffney, so it makes me glad. Also, he's legitimately amusing to me in this role. He shouldn't have been taken seriously in the first place because he threw his all into that role (for whatever that was worth). Also, Daffney was so beautiful and always fun to watch. I've always loved the goth/alt girls over the All-American types. She gives Fairuza's Nancy in The Craft if she was lovesick instead of bitter.
Imagine the Bret matches we could have had if not for Greenberg's botches. Hart vs. Benoit, vs. Eddie, vs. Jericho, vs. Lesnar, vs. Cena, hell, Hart vs. Angle! Goldberg cheated us all.
When you have: A guy in snow removal covers, a guy in a suit and tie & David Flair in a Starcade fan shirt holding his own against DDP you clearly lost the plot…
I still get misty eyed 😞 when I see Daffney She was a huge crush of mine and seeing how what she endured during TNA and her later years was nothing but heartbreaking 🖤
I love how an impromptu match from Jeff Jarret and Chris Benoit ended up being the best event of the night. Funny how when Vince Russo and the higher ups are entirely uninvolved there are great matches from the talent.
Gonna point out that with Starrcade 99 WCW are 3/3 as far promoting an immediate Starrcade main-event rematch on a following Nitro. 97 with Hogan/Sting, 98 with Nash/Goldberg (that turned into the Fingerpoke) and now Bret and Goldberg get a non finish on the biggest PPV of the year, only to run it back on free TV. Double J is, or at least was, crazy underrated. I know I slept on him for sure. It wasn't until I was much older that I realized he is actually a really solid worker.
Always has been. He’s just never really been a true main eventer. Great upper midcard or tag team guy, and can have a match with a broom and get the broom over.
He was good! Just pretty overexposed around this time on this show.
Starting think “Oklahoma” is loosely based on raw announcer, Jerry lawler
Don't be stupid.
He's a parody of Michael Cole.
The moment the kick happened, the views jumped by about 100.
What a way to end the decade, century, and millennium.
Technically, they don't end until 2001.
5:14 bro she was shaking hands with that
I remember when David Flair was at the WWE Performance Center teaching Kurt Angle how to wrestle when the Undertaker showed up and blindsided him.
The kick to the head heard around the world.
It's not a nitpick. A large piece of WCW died when they started using this generic stage. I commented on the Halloween Havoc video that it's all downhill from there.
And potentially unpopular opinion, but now WWE has gone too far the other direction. Something a little more sedate like this would be a nice change.
It showed how much money WCW was bleeding at this point.
Bret Hart: "Bill Goldberg"
the David Flair stuff never gets old
Crazy just how good Benoit could make anyone look good and I know Jarrett has his haters but major props to him for pulling double duty and being able to keep up with Benoit
That Bobby Hill reference was *chef's kiss*
Dammit, Bios, what have you created. Every time that David Flair song comes up its in my head for a week 😂😂😂
Man, Disco not having an intro anymore really shows how the enthusiasm for WCW has fallen off for WB. Also, I agree with David Flair. Halloween Havoc was always way more hip than Starcade.
****HERE ARE THE TOTALS:****
Low Blows: *3*
Jeff Jarrett guitar shots (while never drawing a dime): *2*
Career ending kicks: 1
Chinlocks?
Was not expecting a "that's my purse, I don't know you" awesome
lol @ Alpha 3 Dan Hibiki theme at 7:23
Also RIP Daffney
Great tune
Benoit and Booker T had good matches together I loved their best of seven
Everyone talks about the Goldberg vs Bret Hart match, but nobody ever seems to want to bring up the fact that Hart wrestled a couple of matches after this. Including a hardcore match with Terry Funk of all people.
what chocie did he have? Russo kept putting him in matches and storylines.
Im not a Golderg fan, nothing personal against just not huge fan but Bret gives him way to much of a hard time it was an accident Bret needs to forgive or get over it. His brother who's well trained also did a number on Stone Cold it happens.
@@woobgamer5210He could have said the most powerful word in world-NO. Bret had lots of leverage. He could have said release me and I will go make millions on the other channel working Vince at WrestleMania or as an authority figure etc. It can't be too hard to outsmart Vince Russo...
It gets mentioned all the time.
@@GreenHarpFinancialI think he is just doing it to stay relevant on internet like look at how many interviews and documentaries and talk shows he get called for Goldberg incident and Montreal screw job they get good money for this interviews too so like he might have told to Goldberg no hard feelings bro I am only doing it for money
Bret's WWF theme from the mid 90s is iconic, for me his WCW 99 theme is his best.
The David Flair song should be released on Spotify
One of the few WCW pay per views that I had on VHS.
That side kick is a stinking hyena!
This really is becoming a weekly Sunday night highlight for me. Thank you 🍷
Intro goes hard af, per usual.
Man, I can't believe we have essentially reached the end of Hart in Reliving The War. Where did the time go?
And Scott Hall too, he had three more televised matches in February and that was it for bom in WCW.
@@DBoy38 It was all downhill for Hall after 1998, sadly. Honestly, same goes for Nash even though he wrestled more matches in 1999. Feels like he's just cruising by on charisma after a certain point and doing as little as possible in the ring.
@@Cableguy15Nash did turn 40 during that year, and 40 for a big man hits a little harder. Not really a huge shock seeing him slow it down in the ring.
The David Flair jingle never gets old. Hilarious!
Especially his face and then the zoom in on it lol
"Bunkhouse Sleeper-Hold" is an apt description of this era in WCW.
And to think, WCW survived another 15 months after this.
When you have:
A guy in snow removal covers, a guy in a suit and tie & David Flair in a Starcade fan shirt holding his own against DDP you clearly lost the plot…
The best thing to come out of the wwf/wcw war.... David Flair's intro music on reliving the war!
1999 WCW is what happens when a wrestling promotion has no faith in the actual wrestling to entertain fans
I still get misty eyed 😞 when I see Daffney
She was a huge crush of mine and seeing how what she endured during TNA and her later years was nothing but heartbreaking 🖤
The best thing David Flair did was suck so badly to get that lil Jingle made for us to enjoy
I’d be genuinely curious why anyone would have paid for a WCW PPV at this point other than sympathy
Norman Smiley took out Meng! 😮 That has to put him at the top of the Manliness Meter. 😂
This man drank milk that was two days past the expiration date. Can't get more badass than that.
The HBK sniff sniff delivery service line was hilarious.
God the Oklahoma stuff was such garbage.
The David Flair song gets me every damn time. 😂😂😂
Bret Hart went on to do a hardcore match with Terry Funk
Been waiting for this one
Same here
