Man, nostalgia, Colors was my first Sonic game and it sparked a never dwindling passion for the series, and Reach for The Stars was my jam for like 5 full years
I kinda like how you used the more retro synths with less spacial depth, giving the listener a sense that this remix could be played in a different area in Sonic's world. :)
After playing Colors Ultimate I went to my closet, I dusted my DS Popped in Sonic Colours, played it for a bit, and my mind was like “this is the feeling I was missing from the 3D one” A challenge
you'd be right, as the sega genesis itself uses fm synth to create audio that's generated by the yamaha YM2612 chip, similar to other yamaha fm synths used primarily in arcade games, but very limited as you could only use 5 or 6 channels at a time in comparison to, say, 8 on the YM2151 i guess the biggest difference would be that the genesis had the added bonus of having 3 square psg channels and a noise channel in a similar fashion to the game gear, so genesis music could use that as a sort of backing track, which this remix lacks in order to go for a more purely fm based sound
in short, my SEGA Genesis remixes stay true to the Genesis hardware limitations, where as my FM remixes (previously called NeoGenesis) use as many of whatever as I want
I didn't play the game, only watched some videos, but here is my ranking for Colors: Character Direction: 0 (Horrible writers,so characters act totally weird.) Gameplay: ? (I haven't played it so i can't judge.) Music: 7.0 (Great. That's all i need to say.) Story: 5.0 (Kinda lame. It is also is ruined by the before mentioned writers.) Sonic Colors gets a 5.5 out of ten. Not the worst, but it could have been so much better. The music is what saves it for me. BALDY MCNOSE HAIR!
