I know this could never let you appreciate what these pilots went through , no matter which country they fought for but it takes a step closer to understanding the intensity of these air battles. You really have to salute these people for their bravery regardless of their ideology.
I wish the B-17 gunners would actually do something. If those German fighters just sat behind the bombers like that taking their time, the gunners would have been chewing them to pieces with return fire.
This gives us the feel of how precise air war is, and how sloppily it was fought. There must have been a pirates bounty of brass on the ground. I'd love to see a MeBf110 rocket attack!
The one thing missing, well a couple of things were the B-17's flew in box formations, it gave them greater protection. Also P-51's were in greater numbers after the schweinfurt raid. My father was a pilot in the mighty 8th, from 1943-1945, flew B-17's. Said he hated the Me-163b Kommet.
12 is the correct number of B17s for a squadron within a bomber group. The spinners were red, white, blue, and yellow for each squadron. The tail stripe designated the bomber group, they were also red, white, blue, and yellow. The way the stripe was displayed on the tail, diagonal, straight up and down, like these red ones, let the fighters know if that is the bombers they were assigned to protect.
Ah, I wish there were more videos like this! DCS WW2! I think the external sound design in DCS is way better than IL-2. The zip of the 109s as they speed by the 17s is awesome. I also love how the tracers look in DCS over IL-2 as well. They have more length and weight to them whereas in IL-2 they seem like small dots that originate 100 yards in front of the aircraft. I think seeing this in DCS is the closest we civvies can get to recreating how it looked/sounded what it was really like (outside of a top-tier movie, that is... I'm looking at you, Apple TV+ and Masters of the Air!!!!) Really appreciate this content!
Imagine it was real no matter which side you were on. It had to have been terrifying ... especially ... if you happened to have been one of the "unlucky" ones that just got seriously nailed.
Are there any multiplayer missions available in DCS? Remember Microsoft Combat Sim? One player would be the pilot… another the gunner…. Other players are German fighters…
THis will probably be as close as we can ever get to the real thing. I really want to see a B-17 you be a crew of, or pilot. Detailed like this. Like just a B-17 specific modern sim,
Yes, I know! It bodered me a bit. I tried everythig but still didn't manage to make them fire back. Must be some setting on the mission editor that I missed!
The one thing that has bothered me with almost all combat flight sims is the scripted damage effects. I would like to see organic physics applied to bullet strikes and explosions on planes when you hit them instead of predetermined graphical art for shrapnel and bullet impacts. I think by now we have the technology to do that and create something really special.
The eagle dynamics team is working on that type of damage model. The Mossie has a damage model that is a step in the direction. Incredibly difficult to program something like that.
@@speedeemee Oh I'm sure it's not easy to do. However I think that the technology in physics engines and graphics engines has progressed to the point that this could be done. I would imagine that they could find a way to simulate wiring beind the avionics panel and throughout the plane. Maybe use a bunch of mini hit boxes that if they get penetrated would function like a wire or system getting snapped in half. The damage systems is what really takes me out of the immersive element of the sims. Nothing worse than hitting a plane with a couple bullets and seeing like 20 bullet holes appear in areas you didn't even hit lol.
Game does offer boxed formation but it is quite lengthy to set up larger formations with the editor being what it is. Still it's certainly not unfeasible in DCS.
Well, I don't know Combat Sim, but it's not quite massive open world. It's based on different maps, purchused as add ons and you can play online on several multiplayer servers.
Look! Chemtrails!!! Why would a flight SIM "model" chemtrails? (Only for the brain-dead out there in the ether that believe in chemtrials. Let them answer... this should be good... Let them explain, in their own way, how/why "chemtrails" existed in the 1940's era... and pre jet-age (?!) ) Awesome graphics and sound! The BF109s sound accurate.
Is Flakk still pretty meh in current interactions then? Not really played with the WW2 toys in the editor for a while due to their small install base amongst my mates.
Ww2 aircraft are and will remain iconic for ther good looks in my opinion they are the bestlooking aircraft ever specialy that b-17

No commentary is top! As a non-player i really enjoy this bombastic soundscape.

they are doing it now... Much more realistic!

beautiful video with a beautiful plane and Hollywood shot as if I were watching a real movie, congratulations on the video 🤗

haha master of the air is a joke! like the new starwars/marvel etc...

Thanks for no commentary!
Great video - I wish DCS could run a full-scale WW2 mission with 300+ bombers and dozens of fighters, but it would melt my PC.
Are there any multiplayer missions available in DCS? Remember Microsoft Combat Sim? One player would be the pilot… another the gunner…. Other players are German fighters…
@@danielstrains3674 yes DCS community is majority multiplayer enthusiasts
Great video I didn't like the P51 going down and I didn't see the B17 protecting themselves.
Very nice
Interesting looks so real.
Pretty insane. the war was fought at 30,000 ft. (-40F?)(plus wind chill)
Excellent video 👍 would be great to see how you plan this on the mission editor. Thank you for this stuff 🙏
Excellent! Well done!
I guess none of the b-17 crews know how to shoot back
What a cool video!
Great stuff
Are the turret gunners sleeping? There would have been guns from the B-17's lighting up as they saw incoming bandits.
THis will probably be as close as we can ever get to the real thing. I really want to see a B-17 you be a crew of, or pilot. Detailed like this. Like just a B-17 specific modern sim,
Bravo!
Don’t the gunners on the bombers shoot?
Cool vid, but hardly a flying fortress, they didn't shoot back ??
Yes, I know! It bodered me a bit. I tried everythig but still didn't manage to make them fire back. Must be some setting on the mission editor that I missed!
That battle damage assessment window breaks the immersion I'm sorry to say. You can disable that thing.
I know, I know... when I saw it afterwards I was like... oh man, that doesn't look good. But, what can I say... learning by doing, right?
It's really, really cold at altitude with open window on waist
excellent video with a great system..... VR?
Yes, it was all flown in VR. I only used 2D for the Replays.
And not one of the bombers does not shoot back! it can't be like this!

I know this comment is a year old now, but IL-2 BOS has just implemented pretty mich exactly this kind of damage model
Muy bueno!!! 😉👍🏻
Sunday morning 24 October 2021.
No oxygen masks at that altitude?
Why weren't the Fortresses boxed up? Limitation of the game maybe?

Well done AAA+++ 👍👍👍
Thinking about DCS. Is there massive open world combat ? Similar to Combat Sim?

That was as good as the Memphis Bell air battle's.
👍👍👍

I can't really tell you that since I have very little experience with the WWII Assets. None with Flak.
Imagine a B-17 module
Buenas películas de guerra
Compelling!
Was their B-17 defensive fire?
will a RTX 3050/60 work with good fps in this game if i do the same thing as you?
I would like to be in the Ball Turret. Is that possible on DCS?
Currently not possible.
WWII colorized
Were the gunners asleep?
No.... I just couldn't get it right on the mission editor.
who are you, Carlos? tell me why i should sub buddy
Will it be possible to fly the B-17?
I don't know of any plans for that. It would be awesome though.
@@CarlosLoboFlightSimulation It sure would be. Thanks for the speedy reply.
Too short...dommage.
Is this some kind of cartoon?
Ima say this right now, war thunder is better than dcs.
