Saving you 18:51 of your time.. 1. blend motor under dashboard, 2. lighting module under dash in front of your right knee, 3. all FOUR power window regulators, 4. heater blower control module, 5. driver's door window switch panel hold-down tab, and lastly, 6. agreed the intake manifold but I have had 3 of these and none have had that, still running two of these 2005's but they DO lose water over time with no visible location of leaks yet. RUN 'EM TILL THEY BLOW BECAUSE there are tons of these available to go through.. nice while they last. 23 mpg with all the comforts.
Nailed it. I was just going to post that comment. I have a 1994 Vic and have replaced all four of mine and they all broke again. I've never had any of the issues in this video but those window regulators are complete junk.
my 07 was the same way for 13 years, then last year I checked and it was seeping, but not enough to call for a replacement, I'm still driving it today but I feel less confident sitting in traffic, so I just take short trips in it now.

I owned a 97 P71 for over twelve years and 250,000 miles. I had a fuel pump fail which I replaced with a high volume pump for about $100. I didn't even need to remove the tank. I also had a LCM issue. I fixed my LCM module with a soldering iron and about ten minutes of work. Bad solder joints, easy fix. The spark plug issue is prevented by using a torque wrench when you install them. Also gap the plugs at 0.040 and save on ignition coils.
I'm a former police officer - bought my first auctioned CVPI in 2002. Had the Blend door HVAC problem and a/c compressor, and intake manifold thing. Intake manifold replacement was free- it was a factory recall item. No other problem of any kind for the next six years. Bought a 2006 in 2008. no problems of any kind for the next SEVEN years. Now I have a 2007. Steering rack, (the car had been in a front end collision before I bought it) and a/c compressor, windshield went bad. ALL were the result of residual damage from the trauma of the serious collision. Replaced rear discs, front caliper, shocks all around. Had a set of one inch lower coil springs made for the back - the ass was up too high to suit me. now it sits level and handles like a slot car with the new Bilsteins. One bonus - a new engine with 30,000 miles on it when I bought it. Car has 132,000. Installed E3 plugs, MSD blaster coils, throttle body spacer, K&N cold air intake, New fuel filter (VERY important on these cars) and a 93 octane dyno tune. I've had it up past 135 mph, it gets really good gas mileage (keep those tires above 32 psi all around) and it doesn't have any of the other problems you describe. BUT - the car is almost 13 years old and it will experience failures in some systems - this is not in any way unique to these fine cars.
Hehe 98 Grand Marquis owner here 174k miles From first to last, here's how mine failed: Fuel Pump - $150 Intake Manifold - $2500 Intake Manifold (again, from going from -1F NJ to 90F FL in 1 day) - $1400 Front Suspension - Free greasing Rear Air Shocks to Spring Conversion - $800 (and a permanent Check Air Suspension light on the dashboard) Blend Door Actuator - $250 Yeah.. pain I still love her though
The 1997-2001 Ford Ford Crown Victoria, with a 100% plastic intake manifold, is known for engine overheating, even with normal use, and a coolant leak from the front of the manifold.Between 1999 and 2001, Ford released an updated version of this engine, known as the 'PI' version with a metal coolant passage on the front of the intake manifold, to prevent future issues.
Ah, yes, my 1997 Grand Marquis had to have the intake manifold replaced with the metal version. Fortunately, my 2006 CV will not need that, good to know.
Yep! My 2003 CVPI had the shooting spark plug problem, the steering linkage problem, the peeling white paint, the broken driver's door power window panel, and the lighting control module! All the same, as you mentioned.
With the driver window look at his video crown Rick auto said if you got it from a police auction then that could be why did you get it from a police auction
We have this car here in South Africa, imported from Saudi Arabia. We have these problems to add to the video: Intakemanifold. We replaced that it was not a hard job just have to make sure petrol pressure is off before removing the rail 😁 Electric window switches, yes we have this problem and we used two small screws holding them in. 🤷🏻 We do not have the cigar tray thing, it was deleted as we do not smoke. They are kak (crap) anyways so just use a centreconsole for a van and it works a treat! Cooling system. We replaced ALL the hoses with Conti blue hoses and the heater core hoses are VERY hard to change unless you do the rearmost one with the intakemanifold. We also use a 77°C thermostat 'Failsafe' lock-open one as the original is kak (crap) Accessory belt, we used a Gates Fleetrunner green belt as they last the longest in our climate. The original Good Year belt was very thin and no good Upper front ball joints(?) these make the wheel shake at 100+km/h so change them of course Oil cooler design is odd, it mates the cooling system with the engine oil and you are right they ALWAYS leak or drip. Wash it up and change it or you will have a constant oilchange 🤣 One last to add is the hardware for the front guard, they are always rusted and no good so get some nice stainless hardware for it, powdercoat it black and be done or they vibrate as mad while driving. We removed ALL the relayboxes, antennae wiring, etc but left the 'PI' interface on the left side to use in future but the vast majority of the wiring and ancient dataradios and battery start boxes are just not needed. We ended with HEAPS of wiring removed and less complicated below the plastic floor 👍🏻 We have no issues with electric windows, wheels or other things but we also have no salt ice spread used here so our car is rustfree. Great vid thanks very much for the upload. *Edit* also when you remove the wooden tray thing in the rear you can fit a proper spare tyre! We use Fire Stone PV 41 and they are amazing 😁
Yeh, this thing does have its share of issues but the engine is really well designed. Plastic intake manifold crack, coils go bad, spark plugs misfire but this thing is bullet proof. The original 4.6 Intercepter didn't have the "stuck in the head" plug issue. The"coolant leaking into the plug well and cracking that plug" problem, yes.
The 4.6 2v never had any issues with “stuck in the head plug issues.” The Triton truck engines had that issue with the factory 2 piece spark plug. By and large, these engines were much cheaper than the current market with lifter failures and transmission failures.
I paid 230 for a "Dorman OE Solutions" intake manifold for my 2001 Crown Vic and I watched a video from "1A auto" and I got it done in 2 days watching that video step by step, I had 0 experience, I saved hundreds and I got a ton of knowledge from the whole job
Mine was probably replaced. It has 230,000 miles. The only leaks were a hose in the power steering line, and the oil plug wasn't tight, had stripped threads. The new plug threaded in properly, tightened snug. This car is an upstate South Carolina car, so corrosion is minimal. I had to get an alignment, it drives nice and straight now. No push bar, no spotlight, no holes in the body. It was probably an unmarked car, except I can see where a stick on decal was on the door.
Great video , I'm picking up a 2011 P7B Crown Victoria this week and it's a California No rust unit , looking at your rusted steering shaft yours is back east car .
That Intake Manifold Problem was very prominent from 1998 up to about maybe 2003. I have a 2010 and they fixed that problem by making the Thermostat housing not bolt on to plastic. So I don't believe every one will have to fix this. That improvement you mentioned was an upgrade by 2010
I have a 2006 civilian Crown Vic, that I bought with 47,000 miles. It now has 288,000 miles. Then only issues I've had with it was a failed alternator, a failed vacuum vent climate control assembly, which I was able to fix myself with new O rings, and the peeling paint problem. Yes I have Performance White paint. That really sucks. It's a beautiful car, and there is no way to repair the paint.
I took my P7B to a Ford dealer for something unrelated (adding cruise control) and they replaced my entire steering shaft for free because of the recall.
What years would these be ? I'm getting a 2005 and it has the issue where it seems to get stiff at 3 and 9 almost like a rack and pinion shake when I'm going to pass as well
Jeez! My confidence level of the Crown Vic just dropped to the floor,lol...I know i saw a puff of steam right near that thermostat housing on my 96, but it must be a very slow leak because that was months ago and it's been dry since...Speaking of Maaco, they quoted me a price of $715 to repaint the car and to shim up a sagging door hinge. That's not half bad and I've had cars painted at this location before. It's going to be a real job restoring this car. Needs a new stereo too. You have to love these cars to take it to the level we do to keep them running!
I own a 2007 CVPI and I appreciate Silver Ridge Ramblin discussing his experiences with his CVPI. The white paint in my CVPI is peeling pretty bad and the window control on the driver's door has broken off but I've never had spark plugs blast through the hood. The volume control on the factory installed radio has the infrequent (but annoying habit) of going up and down by itself.
I bought a 2007 about 8 months ago and the only problem I've had is the electronic fan so far. Also I recently noticed my a/c accumulater is leaking fluid but I haven't got to that, and I don't want to do that myself. How's your car been treating you?
On my daily 08 old chp Vic. Just recently replaced the FIXED ford intake. Leaked exact spot under thermostat. And getting ready to replace the leaking oil cooler hose. Proprietary ford part. Boo. Later years after 09, finally made threaded connector. Great video.
Also just repaired the abs electric module, after ABS error code kit up in dash, in Van Nuys, CA, 100.00 for repair. New part was 400.00. Error code went away and is operational when I tested it.
@@dushooter When I bought my car I removed the ABS system and threw it in the garbage. To shut the light on the dash off you just need to add a resistor in the wiring to fool the computer. It is a useless piece of junk.
Got'ta say this plastic only manifold ran up to 2001 after that FMC did modify the crossover for the coolant/thermostat and I checked this out thoroughly online being I have an '01 and found that FMC never recalled but had available funds (now not any longer available) for the repair if your mechanic let you know about the offer. Of course it's possible you found some '411' I hadn't and if there's anyone out there including your good self that can verify that this offer still stands currently in this year of 2019, please reply...
I'll think now on passing on owning one of these vics...i appreciate people like you letting us now on things you own on warning about them...many thanks.
!!!!!READ THIS!!!!! A severe issue these cars get most people don't even notice and a check engine light sometimes won't come on, it is cylinder misfiring codes. Normal if you have cylinder misfiring codes pop-up especially cylinder 1 and cylinder 5. The common things people fix are the spark plugs and ignition coils. However these cars have fuel rails and on the passenger side fuel rail toward the front there is a (fuel pressure sensor) built into it. It's two 7 mm bolts one vacuum line and one electrical clip. First check the clip and the vacuum line to make sure there's no damage to them, the vacuum lines are brittle plastic and break a lot. Local auto parts store should have a vacuum line for about 4 dollars. If the vacuum line is fine then the fuel pressure sensor needs to be replaced it is a very common issue with these cars, they cost $60 to $110 depending where you buy it this is a part where you want to buy a Motorcraft don't skimp out and spend $12 on eBay for a cheap one, in this case you get what you pay for. It stops the full vacuum in your fuel rails causing cylinder 1 and cylinder 5 at the front of the motor not to get any fuel. You're welcome to anyone experiencing this issue and now knows how to fix it without replacing a ton of stuff like I had to do. Also other common issues window motors especially the window tracks due to their cheap plastic design, if you're throwing stuff in your trunk not paying attention on the driver side there is inertia switch which one bump very hard causes your fuel pump to not send any fuel, normally you just push the button reset it and go. Sway bar sway bar links a arm bushings ball joints are all issues that normally happen with these cars due to the amount of mileage on them. Odometer digital gauge and or the whole gauge setup is also a common issue, the only way to fix it is to take the motherboard out and resolder a couple spots. One of the biggest issues I've had with my Crown Vic especially an old cop car is electrical demons, unfortunately because of messing around with the wiring harness to include lots of instruments then taking them out for sale can cause a lot of issues for a buyer. My Crown Vics name is EL Demon for that issue. There is a lot of others but I can't really write them all down..
I had 2 Grand Marquis before ,had intake manifolds cracked on them. Currently have 2009 Crown Vic, 160k, no intake manifold crack yet. Never had a spark plug spit out. Ford has a recall on the steering shaft I believe, no problem for me. I think my CV has a cracked bolt on the manifold since it sounds slightly loud to me, I can live with it.
6:30 When I bought the CV, the steering shaft had binding spots. I sprayed some grease on the universal joint and the problem went away. Now it's creeping back, so I need to relubricate. You DO NOT need to replace the shafts. Just put some grease on it! P.S. I hate power steering to begin with because I can't feel the road. I absolutely HATE progressive power steering for the progressive part. You can never tell where/when automatic shit is going to break (it's man-made - it's going to break), and if you're trying to race down a road, that's always the wrong time.
Hey I Owen I crown Vic my self and just so you know there is one more common thing that goes wrong with these cars that you miss and that's the vacuum leak for your ac it's not a big deal or a hard fix but alot of times your ac well blow threw the wrong vent and it's just that you have a vacuum leak. Thanks for making this video tho really helpful 👍
All triton engines have a crossover pipe built into the intake manifold to feed opposite side of engine with coolant and also a tube feeding heater coil underneath the intake. It will fail eventually sometimes filling #1 cylinder with coolant and hydro locking the engine. Great engines though!!
Thermostat housings crack because of improper tightening of bolts during installation of thermostats. Thermostat housing hold-down bolts should be cleaned and oiled upon removal, and the threads in the manifold should be chased and oiled. When installing thermostat, tighten the bolts EVENLY to 20 ft.lbs -- and NO MORE !
@@SlikLizrd interesting theory, but are you really saying a malfunction or negligence in another part of the cooling system couldn't be responsible for an over heat as well? It's really ONLY because of improperly tightened bolts?
Here’s my 2 cents people like me got crownvics because I could buy one for 700-2300 depending on year then the next year get one more sell the old one for a slight profit and rarely have do any work them and always be in a new car every year and not lose money on it. With police auctions that is no longer the case especially because the vics stoped production... now most of the time old cop cars no matter the make go for blue book and it’s insane.
Please order your own parts. Even if you feel you need ford oem. Its 2018 no need to NOT save money and order your own. You will save hundreds if not thousands over the years.
My 2007 crown Vic p71 spit the cylinder2 spark plug, and bought a $20 kit to retread the cylinder at auto zone and a new spark plug, nothing wrong with the old one but didn’t want to risk it.
I think you made your video by asking me what all I have fixed on my 03 Vic LOL. It has had virtually every issue you mentioned except for the oil cooler lines and the headlight control module. EVERYTHING! Including the broken door panel switch plates. In fact, that is why I am watching videos about Vic's now. I just yanked my very cracked intake manifold out earlier this afternoon for replacement. I do agree with several other comments though that you can save big bucks doing stuff like the intake yourself. I have a good background in both Submarine mechanics as well as automobiles so it was a piece of cake for me, but for those who do not have a background or skill set there are lots of good videos on RUclips to get you through just about anything. I did really enjoy your video though. It was like a trip down memory lane for me.
I've own 3vics 1 Marquis..... All the same issues.... Intake manifold, power steering hose, transmission, rear axle and bearing, rear shocks gas and air, cats, idle control valve, lighting control module, blower resistor..... O....and power steering/transmission cooler.... Great cars though.... Good thing there's stacks of these cars at LKQ....😎👍
You should slide a piece of double-sided tape underneath the window control panel that will keep it down and you can always pray it back up when you get a new one.
My steering shaft was stiff like this too, all I did was spray the crap out of it with a can of “rust check”... loosened it up over a few days and it’s like new now
SilverRidgeRamblin that's my point, I am currently replacing the transmission on an 05 P71. I heard Mr Random say that the transmission in these cars go , due to the hard driving while in service. He says that you'll have to replace it, and he was right LoL!
I had one until about 211k I never had problem with the tranny I always changed all the fluids in the vehicle changed every couple thousand miles since I know how to do it all myself
Hey i need help. I'm looking at this 1995 crown victoria. It's real clean, the body is great the engine is great but the driver's door has a problem with the window, the buttons to make them go up and down (like the entire button holder) has been taken out, and the window held up with duct tape, the button holders and parts are there but it needs some type of work, I'm wondering if i should buy this thing because i thought it was great at first, then my grandfather-in-law looked at it and said it was junk...
It sounds like you just need a new door switch panel not a big deal. The internals might be missing or the window off track but its not the end of the world
I beg to differ with you, I have had a number of CVPI's and only one manifold cracked. 1997, Ford had sent me a notice to take it to the dealer if I had a problem. Well I did and they replaced it for no charge. Since then I have had many more. The problems I experienced was alternators and rear axels. One fuel pump on a 2010. All over all they can't be beat for reliability.
Should have bought the manifold online off rockauto for like 200 labor is like a few hours most mechanics charge like 70 an hour so like your looking st 200ish for labor so all in all should be around 500 bucks for everything or below your overpaid by a lot
I wanted a motorcraft one not some after market garbage, but I prob could have gotten it cheaper online for a motorcraft just would have had to done shopping
SilverRidgeRamblin there’s dorman brand for about 200 dollars and has extremely good reviews bud. Look online for parts next time in the future :) you’ll definitely save some money
I try and stick with motorcraft parts and time i go after market they fail me or don't preform as well. My fuel pump for example aftermarket and its noisy I wish I never bought it.
@@silverridgeramblin3066 Original factory parts are the best. Keep doing what you're doing. After market is SHIT. If something is cheaper there is a reason for it.
Yep he's right the damn intake manifold. My current 2004 GMQ lost it at 55,000. I bought a Ford Racing intake from Amazon and it improved performance greatly. I replaced it myself a few hours everyday over 4 days cause that's all my bad back could take. But with that new manifold it runs 100% better like a new car. I think when they start leaking coolant it also has a vac leak because when the mani is bad the engine will run like shit not idle and missfire and poor acceleration etc. I have owned 2 Vics and 1 GMQ been lucky no sparkplugs ejecting. But I hardly every punch it hard.
Got my intake done monday, lol! Not fun but about $700. 241,000 runs strong and totally worth it. They want $800 to do the shocks. I gotta see if thats reasonable. almost everything you said has broke on mine. Only thing is the passenger vent acctuator is broke know too
couldnt help to laugh that you listed everything ive had to fix underneath the hood with my 98 marquis besides the spark plugs shootin out lol what sucks is ford discontinued all there parts so its gettin hard replacing certain parts another big thing these cars run into is frame deterioration especially up north which in some cases can be the end all
My 2005 Ford CV sport LX model with 177500mi needs a new LCM(March 2022). The Firestone shop says the part is $550.00. They claim it may take "a few hours" to repair. 🔧 That sounds like 🦬 since most Ford Crown Vic LCM 💡 fix videos are 10-15min. 🚗
Great vid bro. I was fresh off of installing upper and lower control arms on the same side that the ball joints were replaced less than 3 years ago. I was kinda pissed at that point in time.
the manifold doesnt crack the manifold gets got at the back on driver side and warps and breaks the bolt head off. happened on mine lol. same thing on 2009-current rams
One other one I can recall immediately: the ceiling-mounted electronic compass gets bad solder joints near two large diodes and around all of the pins connecting the VF display. Also, ALL window motor switches fail!
@@donaldshimkus539 my problem is being disabled and getting 300% below poverty on Social Security disability income doesn't afford me things like Factory parts.
@@jeffwolf8018 not saying they gotta be factory, just new (or close to new) replacement parts. The well-used originals may wind up being a waste of money when they go bad a month after installing them. My experience. And I pray something changes your situation for the better.
Yea they put a freaking plastic intake on them out the factory . Only way to get a cast one if aftermarket. I found mine being it leaked into my sparkplug socket and started skipping lol.
Hello; I noticed your vid mentions the steering shaft; Maybe you don't know, there's a recall on the steering column / shaft. Usually, the dealer replaces / repairs the recalled part & charges it to FoMoCo. Not 'supposed' to charge the owner, but could in some cases. Some departments have had the repair before the car was sold, likely, some not. Check the recall website or the dealership for more info. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
The problem with the peeling paint is that NO REPUTABLE SHOP will just sand it down and repaint. Peeling paint never stops peeling. Every affected panel has to be stripped to bare metal and then CORRECTLY prepped. Only then will the new paint stick to the panel. Supposedly, Ford will cover the cost of refinishing due to a class action suit pertaining to the peeling issue, caused by improper surface prep and contaminants on the panel surfaces on the assembly line. However, no dealer will admit knowledge of the suit and the recall that was issued. Google " Ford paint issues" to get correct info to take to your dealer, and be prepared to escalate your request to the Ford district office for your region. So, assuming Maaco ACTUALLY did the correct prep before painting his car it is reasonable to assume a 1400.00+ bill. The paint prices they advertise are JUST FOR THE ACTUAL PAINT JOB. Beyond only basic sanding, which will only be sufficient to prepare a relatively new paint surface in good condition with NO DEFECTS beyond light scratches or small chips, EVERYTHING AT MAACO IS EXTRA. I used to run one of those shitholes. Their management training is squarely focused on the " Sell Up". At all costs, at every opportunity. Our DIRECT COST TO PAINT A STANDARD CAR back in the late eighties was LESS THAN THIRTY DOLLARS. TOTAL. OUT THE DOOR. That was everything associated with the paint job itself , labor, sanding/masking materials, the paint, electricity, you-name-it. The paint services ranged from 149.00 to about 300.00 for an overall repaint. The basic difference on the price was essentially the amount of gloss. Before multi stage paints and clear coats, one had to adjust the amount of clear that went into the paint mix. More Clear- Higher Price. ANYTHING BEYOND " SAME COLOR" over clean panels with no surface issues was,uh, "EXTRA". I held national gross profit records exceeding 50 percent working "the system". Two stage paints and clear coats replaced the old paint systems. I would not estimate costs nowadays, but the material needed to paint a standard car probably doesn't cross 200 dollars or so. Maybe less in volume purchasing.
I have seen about a half dozen different videos, if not more, on the Crown Victoria because I have owned one for 3 years....and while 2 of them have said the intake manifold will crack, 1 said it cracks at the back and this one says it cracks at the front. So far, mine hasn't cracked and I have about 145K on it. It was my understanding from what I read on the internet that these manifolds were upgraded at some point to get rid of the plastic part where it cracks and to make the manifold completely metal.
They changed part of the manifold in the front, right where the thermostat drops in. That area would crack so they made it aluminum. The rest of the intake manifold is plastic though. I have an 03 which should have been immune but it cracked on me. To be fair it was unusually cold the week that it happened. So it's possible but not guaranteed. I wouldn't worry about it if you aren't having problems.
They crack in the front where I mentioned and the back I forget exactly where. They did update the design with better plastic I think. I have a motorcraft on mine and its still plastic
They're notorious for failing rear axle shaft bearings. Repair bearings are easy to get and relatively inexpensive and they're much wider than the stock bearings and have their own bearing races and seals. Ford should have designed them like that in the first place.
i have a 1996 mercury grand marquis gs and i have a clunking noise when i drive and sometimes the steering wheel will be hard to turn but i have power steering fluid but i don't understand i went on rockauto and i see 2 steering shafts so i;m suppose to change the lower steering shaft the one that goes to the steering gear box
The '92 - '95 4.6-liter 2v has all-aluminum intake manifolds that do not leak. However, the factory gaskets are FUBAR, and should be replaced with Fel-Pro #MS98007T1 Intake Manifold Gasket Set.
I have a 2010 and I have spit 3 spark plugs in 3 years of owning it. Super easy fix but annoying as all hell. That’s just a common thing for ALL Ford modular v8s with aluminum heads.
I got a 08 Interceptor & I've replaced my oil cooler, radiator, AC condenser, electric fan, water pump, alternator, intake manifold, & had my transmission rebuilt
I have an 08 as well. 300k all I've had to do was the intake manifold. I change oil every 3000miles fully synthetic as well as the trans every 50,000 miles. I'm pushing 300hp. But I drive it conservatively on the highway I don't go past 70. On the streets 45mph to 55.
Nothing yet. I just always keep my tank full and change all fluids. Everything is stock. My engine just flows well. I'm the second owner. Got it at 150,000 miles. Once I buy my 2nd vic I'll decide which one to modify.
That tempered plastic on the intake manifold was about the stupidest idea ever luckily an easy fix ill coat the whole damn thing before i replace it cost me 10 bucks and about 10 min to sand and lay a solid 1/10 inch layer diwn the entire length
Also my 01 vic about shot my ass woth a plug scared the shiiiit out of me. In litterally 3 taps away from every cylinder and i never changed them after about 70k miles very odd only hapoens when i make a hard turn
Is there any wood grain leather wrapped steering wheels that the p71 police interceptor can take? Stupid question prob but I just bought my first interceptor and I’ve always wanted a wood grain wheel!
16:30 The EATC has 4 o-rings which get flat sides with time and leak away all of your vacuum. At that point nothing works correctly HVAC wise. Harbor Freight sells a kit of assorted o-rings for $10 and it contains 18 of the little beasts!
Thank you sir!!
Thanks my blower fan stopped working and 3 windows don't work. My son died 9 months ago and he was my mechanic, so I'll be taking a crash course

Bruh I got a ford racing intake off summit for $250 and did the whole thing in 4 hours max. You got scammed
I did it in 1 hour. did you take a breake during the process 4 hours is way too much don't you think?
My problem is the dash panel
Especially when you take into account a stock replacement is $150
Do they come in aluminum?
Yeah this dude definitely did not do his research
you forgot a major common problem driving a P71 Crown Vic....the dirty looks people give you when they drive by and realize you're not a cop lol
fuck em
What Bilsteins did you use? I have a 2004 ex detective cvpi but I cannot find Bilsteins for it
How you going 135mph when they are limited well bellow that.
Hehe 98 Grand Marquis owner here
174k miles
From first to last, here's how mine failed:
Fuel Pump - $150
Intake Manifold - $2500
Intake Manifold (again, from going from -1F NJ to 90F FL in 1 day) - $1400
Front Suspension - Free greasing
Rear Air Shocks to Spring Conversion - $800 (and a permanent Check Air Suspension light on the dashboard)
Blend Door Actuator - $250
Yeah.. pain
I still love her though
BTW this was all from 2018 to 2022, no problems up until it reached 150k miles
You can get a Mototcraft intake manifold cheaper on eBay brand new.
>ebay
Ebay and Amazon are great if you like getting junk Chinese parts passed off as genuine OEM ones.
I got same problem like yours
We have this car here in South Africa, imported from Saudi Arabia. We have these problems to add to the video:
Intakemanifold. We replaced that it was not a hard job just have to make sure petrol pressure is off before removing the rail 😁
Electric window switches, yes we have this problem and we used two small screws holding them in. 🤷🏻
We do not have the cigar tray thing, it was deleted as we do not smoke. They are kak (crap) anyways so just use a centreconsole for a van and it works a treat!
Cooling system. We replaced ALL the hoses with Conti blue hoses and the heater core hoses are VERY hard to change unless you do the rearmost one with the intakemanifold. We also use a 77°C thermostat 'Failsafe' lock-open one as the original is kak (crap)
Accessory belt, we used a Gates Fleetrunner green belt as they last the longest in our climate. The original Good Year belt was very thin and no good
Upper front ball joints(?) these make the wheel shake at 100+km/h so change them of course
Oil cooler design is odd, it mates the cooling system with the engine oil and you are right they ALWAYS leak or drip. Wash it up and change it or you will have a constant oilchange 🤣
One last to add is the hardware for the front guard, they are always rusted and no good so get some nice stainless hardware for it, powdercoat it black and be done or they vibrate as mad while driving.
We removed ALL the relayboxes, antennae wiring, etc but left the 'PI' interface on the left side to use in future but the vast majority of the wiring and ancient dataradios and battery start boxes are just not needed. We ended with HEAPS of wiring removed and less complicated below the plastic floor 👍🏻
We have no issues with electric windows, wheels or other things but we also have no salt ice spread used here so our car is rustfree.
No they did but it was early models with the 4 threads heads, I believe it was 4, in the later models the problem was dealt with
I paid 230 for a "Dorman OE Solutions" intake manifold for my 2001 Crown Vic and I watched a video from "1A auto" and I got it done in 2 days watching that video step by step, I had 0 experience, I saved hundreds and I got a ton of knowledge from the whole job
92- 95 had an aluminum intake 96+ got the junk plastic intake
That Intake Manifold Problem was very prominent from 1998 up to about maybe 2003. I have a 2010 and they fixed that problem by making the Thermostat housing not bolt on to plastic. So I don't believe every one will have to fix this. That improvement you mentioned was an upgrade by 2010
They still fail. Got 2010 inmy driveway with 84K miles and the plastic UNDER the AL thermostat housing fails now.
Sounds like you got yourself a solid car. What type of oil do you use just out of curiosity.
how about the tranny?
It's called going to maaco you fucking idiot
The manifold really isnt that hard to replace. I did it on my '07 CVPI.
thesixgunfighter did u just buy a brand new one online?
Why did Ford charge you for the steering shaft? There's a recall out for that and the LCM last I checked.
I took my P7B to a Ford dealer for something unrelated (adding cruise control) and they replaced my entire steering shaft for free because of the recall.
Yeah I might have to look into that my lcm was done by them
Russ where do you take it to
What years would these be ? I'm getting a 2005 and it has the issue where it seems to get stiff at 3 and 9 almost like a rack and pinion shake when I'm going to pass as well
this guy is right on track. Most things he mentioned has happed to my 2004
Wheel bearings, and the ignition brake switch where your car won’t come out of park, but you can override that problem until you get it properly fixed.
The manifolds were redesigned after Ford recalled the affected cars, check for recalls, Ford will pick up the repair bill
@Dio Black 03 and up had the revised crossover in the front but as you said they can still leak and they do. Eventually.
Dude if 800 bucks an expensive repair you are a lucky man. Spent 3700 to get a new transmission for a fucking honda minivan
I'll think now on passing on owning one of these vics...i appreciate people like you letting us now on things you own on warning about them...many thanks.
Yeah np but their great vehicles dont take it off your list every car some some issues nothing is perfect
A bit of home work will greatly improve your videos . Thanks for what I did get out of it .
steering shaft is covered by a recall
Not my year already spoken to the dealership about it
!!!!!READ THIS!!!!!
If you keep the fuel filter changed out every 3 oil changes, your fuel pump with work a long time.
Yeah np thanks for the info on the ac vacuum leak I had no idea
One problem with Crown victoria is that I dont have one.... living in Europe makes these hard to come by 😭
For real
2002 and earlier (before rack and pinion) had a problem with steering gear boxes.
All triton engines have a crossover pipe built into the intake manifold to feed opposite side of engine with coolant and also a tube feeding heater coil underneath the intake. It will fail eventually sometimes filling #1 cylinder with coolant and hydro locking the engine.
Great engines though!!
My thermostat housing cracked a month ago, probably head gasket too, the curse lives!
That's a very nice and clean Crown Vic you have there. Looks like you take very good care of it.
Btw whole family is 40 years in buying selling and trading ex police interceptors. 👌
Please order your own parts. Even if you feel you need ford oem. Its 2018 no need to NOT save money and order your own. You will save hundreds if not thousands over the years.
I tend to have more vacuum leaks up north the hoses tend to get brittle and crack
Power wash?! Please don’t😂
My 2007 crown Vic p71 spit the cylinder2 spark plug, and bought a $20 kit to retread the cylinder at auto zone and a new spark plug, nothing wrong with the old one but didn’t want to risk it.
Need an under the hood liner to stop the paint from overheating and it being damaged
I found a Hood Liner on Amazon a few years ago -- looks great !
Haven't seen one since then.
Lol thanks for watching
03, 04, and 05 factory rims were covered under recall for defective welds on the rims.
Never heard of plugs shooting out. That’s truly lack of care when fitting. Hand tighten then 1/4 turn with ratchet that’s all they need folks.
The aftermarket intake manifold are better more heavy duty designed.
ThumbsUpMan link please
You should slide a piece of double-sided tape underneath the window control panel that will keep it down and you can always pray it back up when you get a new one.
I tried that, the heat degraded the adhesive real fast.
My steering shaft was stiff like this too, all I did was spray the crap out of it with a can of “rust check”... loosened it up over a few days and it’s like new now
You forgot the transmission...
SilverRidgeRamblin that's my point, I am currently replacing the transmission on an 05 P71. I heard Mr Random say that the transmission in these cars go , due to the hard driving while in service. He says that you'll have to replace it, and he was right LoL!
Blac Clinton Dapoet where did you get the transmission? How much did it cost you to replace it?
I had one until about 211k I never had problem with the tranny I always changed all the fluids in the vehicle changed every couple thousand miles since I know how to do it all myself
SilverRidgeRamblin how about a Mercury Grand Marquis?
@@MrSonic731 yes
Spittin Spark Plugs,,,,mine was an 02, not only did Ford partially thread the head, they bought OEM plugs that only had four threads at the base!!
The internals might be missing or the window off track but its not the end of the world
The head light control module in my crown Vic if it goes off I kick it once and it comes back on
Rebooting done right!
the door close sounds great man it looks pretty mint to me
I beg to differ with you, I have had a number of CVPI's and only one manifold cracked. 1997, Ford had sent me a notice to take it to the dealer if I had a problem. Well I did and they replaced it for no charge. Since then I have had many more. The problems I experienced was alternators and rear axels. One fuel pump on a 2010. All over all they can't be beat for reliability.
I had a 09 crown vic. It was a great ride till the trans shot craps.
We have six! Not a,single problem! Three have over 800,000. Still runs smooth. We run all synthetic fluids
Yeah I run synthetic fluids as well
@@silverridgeramblin3066 there's a L model that's a full foot longer. CV. IT'S RARE.
IGNITION COILS ALWAYSSSSSS FAIL!!!
Intake manifold on ebay.. $120 new!! works for me just fine... over 14k miles on it so far so good.
Only thing is the passenger vent acctuator is broke know too
Yes, spark plug spit is b/c not torqued to spec... avg joe can't just do it by feel b/c the threads are shorter than many
On these engines you cannot change the spark plugs when the engine is warm they advise changing when engine is cold.
couldnt help to laugh that you listed everything ive had to fix underneath the hood with my 98 marquis besides the spark plugs shootin out lol what sucks is ford discontinued all there parts so its gettin hard replacing certain parts another big thing these cars run into is frame deterioration especially up north which in some cases can be the end all
Best car I’ve owned
Stumbled on this vid... now I’m about to bring in my crown Vic to my local dealer for LCM Repair.. FREE 👏 OF👏CHARGE!!! Finally
I took my 2004 p71 in and under recall they replaced my lcm
What is the LCM?
@@commonsenceaintsocommonnom1496 lighting control module it's under the dash it control all the headlights and some lights
So far, you haven't mentioned the ball joints on these. They are notorious for breaking!
Yeah I could have mentioned those I guess something that I forgot
Great vid bro. I was fresh off of installing upper and lower control arms on the same side that the ball joints were replaced less than 3 years ago. I was kinda pissed at that point in time.
This is why u should get a mercury g.m. instead
Didn't they recall the intake manifolds around 2000-2002? I know after 2003 the Mercury GM ones were replaced during manufacturing.
Yes they did the revised and made the front aluminum.
Mine cracked as well, so yep, 😊you're not wrong.
Steering shaft will now be replaced by Ford under a recall
Recall do expire actually.
the manifold doesnt crack the manifold gets got at the back on driver side and warps and breaks the bolt head off. happened on mine lol. same thing on 2009-current rams
One other one I can recall immediately: the ceiling-mounted electronic compass gets bad solder joints near two large diodes and around all of the pins connecting the VF display.
Also, ALL window motor switches fail!
You got a lot of money to buy all your parts from dealer, that is insane. I would get them used junkyard before I get them from the factory
Unless you find one that was replaced just prior to being junked, you'll probably wind up with the same crap you already have.
The offset is different on the 17" steels from the 16" they stick out too far. They changed the rim size and offset to increase brake size
Hello;
I noticed your vid mentions the steering shaft; Maybe you don't know, there's a recall on the steering column / shaft.
Had manifold replace also !! Leaky antifreeze.
I wish I can paint & replace panels ! Cars to old 1999
I had to replace my steering rack but I think it really depends on how much the police beat on your car
Damn 1400 at macco??? Lol naw i eould go to a custom shop for that price..
Jesus I was expecting like $600-$800
Just wrap it a whole lot cheaper
Spitting out spark plugs for several years. Ford even made a kit for this problem. Running an open cylinder to auto shop sucks....
Also have to consider if the manifold was replaced by previous owner
👍 Great Video! Very Informative 👍 Best Thing is OEM. Thanx 4 Sharing
They're notorious for failing rear axle shaft bearings. Repair bearings are easy to get and relatively inexpensive and they're much wider than the stock bearings and have their own bearing races and seals. Ford should have designed them like that in the first place.
That plastic piece on the door is $60 on eBay
I'm about to take them off I'll put them on there for $20 each lol
i have a 1996 mercury grand marquis gs and i have a clunking noise when i drive and sometimes the steering wheel will be hard to turn but i have power steering fluid but i don't understand i went on rockauto and i see 2 steering shafts so i;m suppose to change the lower steering shaft the one that goes to the steering gear box
What about gas smell?....I'm not sure if it's coming from underneath car or the engine 🤔
Sounds like quite the laundry list lol
@@silverridgeramblin3066 I know right
I have an 08 as well. 300k all I've had to do was the intake manifold.
I change oil every 3000miles fully synthetic as well as the trans every 50,000 miles.
I'm pushing 300hp. But I drive it conservatively on the highway I don't go past 70. On the streets 45mph to 55.
@@MARZOSIRUS What mods have you done to it
Nothing yet.
I just always keep my tank full and change all fluids.
Everything is stock. My engine just flows well. I'm the second owner. Got it at 150,000 miles.
Once I buy my 2nd vic I'll decide which one to modify.
I have 5 cylinders tapped and j.b weld keeping my intake manifold from leaking. Still it drives pretty well considering
This guy is hilarious had to subscribe.
16:30 The EATC has 4 o-rings which get flat sides with time and leak away all of your vacuum. At that point nothing works correctly HVAC wise. Harbor Freight sells a kit of assorted o-rings for $10 and it contains 18 of the little beasts!
