- Today, thanks to BAE Automotive I am driving the all new "BAE Vantare" - a car inspired by the classic Aston Martin DB5 of the 1960s. Far from a copy though, this is a look at what could have been and unlike the David Brown Speedback GT, it is built on an Aston Martin platform - in this case, the DB9.

I acknowledge the skill and desire it took to build, also the fact i would be very very lucky to ever own one. That said, subjectively, the front end looks like a melted welly.
It's an abomination
Yes, cut off the front lip and drop the wheel size and inch or two for the more classic look.
this reminds me alot of the new chargers/challenegrrs that are built like boats compared to older vers
Classic example of ATBGE - Awful Taste But Great Execution
well said.
Totally agree. The front looks misshapen and the proportions are all off.
I think the rear lights lenses would also do with being the correct colours to match the DB5 period styling. Clears lenses are a bit 'Halfords'.
I never thought of that but completely agree. It should be an option
The lenses are the least of its worries....
@@edwardfletcher7790 🤣🤣🤣
Proper coloured rear lights and smaller wheels needed, otherwise, what a car ! Top work Bradders and well done Jay getting to test it.
I think if the rear lightchrome covers are exhanged with red light units, the back end would be a lot better looking.
Its funny too.. at the start of the video, i thought the front fenders looked way too bulbous. At the end, now that I look at it, it actually works pretty well.
I like it. I'm glad people who have the money to do sonething like this occasionally decide to do so. Really cool.
I must admit my initial reaction was "oh no, what have they done" - but it did grow on me in the few hours I had it
@@JayEmmOnCars I agree that taller rubber will look much better and it will also improve comfort a bit. I think taller rubbey might have a come back in fashion.
Looks like someone described an Aston Martin over the phone
Ha. Then faxed a dot matrix render over.
I had no idea that the Vantare existed, I like the rarity and the fact that this car evokes emotions, car ownership is all about how the car makes you feel when you drive it. Excellent content JayEmm!
The sound of that engine makes me cry
A de-beautified DB9.
Yeah, I'm with you on that one. The DB9 is such a beautiful car, you have to go a long, long way to improve on it. I can't decide whether this Vantare didn't go far enough, or went too far. Either way, it doesn't do it for me. I can't understand the desire to make a modern car look like an old one.
I read in the comments of a lot of very negative opinions, but I would say to them love it or loathe it it is a very nice car and very unusual and original. So carry on driving your mainstream Honda or Ford or Hyundai.
My first reaction was: “so the guys who make the Eurofighter are making a car?” I don’t know what to think though as an Aston fan.
A waste of 10 perfectly good DB9s?
I admire Bradley's passion for the car, and it's a remarkably good result, but I think I'd have aimed to keep it looking like the original, more resto-mod than re-modelling ... but all credit for what he's achieved,
Saw this at the Classic Car show. Good to see it actually works and was not just a show exhibit.
Saw it at the Classic Car Show, looks even better in the flesh......
Awesome car. The back reminds me of a TVR for some reason. Thanks for getting unique cars like this on the channel. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
I really love the look of the Vantare. The perfect blend of old and new.
Bieuteful, love the Qed bieutey pointers across the body lines of the car , Like it .
I respect the passion. Same with any niche parts of car culture.
But I just can't get over the way it looks. To me it looks like the perfect evolution of a DB5 if it's put on 20st since 1963 rather than a natural development of its design path (like the Fiat 500 absolutely nails in my opinion).
There are certain angles that it looks fantastic from.
But that said, I don't expect everything to be made to my personal tastes and needs. Especially not so when it's something that has clearly been created from a deep place in another person's heart.
Good on Bradley and everyone involved in its existence.
It would be interesting if you could get behind the wheel of one of the new 25 DB5 heritage cars AM have made last year. I understand they're practically identical to the originals, but I wonder what small nuance there may be between old and new.
Although I know that they're fantastically rare and probably only owned by the kind of people that don't hand them out to YT car reviewers...which is a shame
Sat here in my nailed on miser's hat, I like it because it looks and sounds fantastic and won't ever rust.
Love the sound and the review Jay ... love the car... lets ring the bank manager
Fantastic that there is the passion behind the project but personally I prefer the approach of the Callum Vanquish. Thanks for the diverse content James.
Fantastic video James and I think the Vantare looks absolutely stunning. I really love unique cars and definitely something that no one else really has. Well done to the team for what they’ve done here. If I could, I’d have one 😉👌🏻👍🏻
I can't tell if I like it or not, but I've got to respect the idea that if you can't find the dream car that you also love to drive... Make it!
Beautiful, stunning, a wonderful piece of work.
I get it and like the looks, particularly at the front. The fact that it picks up the DB 5 key features pretty well is possibly the reason you are getting all the looks whilst driving around. I am not a great Aston fan so am not tied to any particular bias re models and types and whether these have been butchered by creating this car.
Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.
Change all the wheels and your done I reckon. Beautiful!
Saw this in the metal at NEC Classic. Make no mistake it's absolutely hideous in person as well 🤣🤣
Really like the front end of the car and I love the side profile. The wheel design suits the car imo, but I do agree that the size needs to be an inch or 2 smaller.
The only part I don't really like is the rear end, the protruding rear light clusters just looks out of place.
Overall quite a nice looking car that I would buy if I had the money.
Hope Bradley Walsh and the others well in their project.
It's nice to see people with a passion for making unique cars. Sadly, I don't think the end result works very well. It looks like a DB5 and Cerbera mish-mash to me without the best bits of either.
It looks so weird to me
Beautiful!! We’ll done on sourcing and presentation James.
This is exactly the type of car I'd personally choose if I was in a position to buy such a thing. However, though I may possess the imagination and enthusiasm for one, I sadly don't have the sort of numbers on my balance sheet needed to support such a fantasy. But it is a very, very nice dream, and I'm overjoyed that it exists.
We need more people who are willing to build their dreams, because this is a phenomenal looking car. I can't help but wonder thought will they do another retro rebody? Maybe a e type? Or a even another aston like the classic vantage?
It’s absolutely gorgeous - I was at Goodwood when it was released and spoke to the manufacturer and I told him to expect to build 100 - 10 won’t be enough !!
It looks fantastic but your right about the wheels thanks, for showing it to us Jay.
Great review James!🔥. We had the opportunity of creating a 3D virtual tour of the Vantare. Having the car for the day was like a dream!
Do love your channel, its quintessentially British. Keep up the good work
I've seen this exact car drive past me a month ago in London! It sounded incredible and the fella always did wheel spins at every green light!
I think it looks fantastic. And it sounds awesome too.
I did my apprenticeship at Rolls Royce Small Engine Division Leavesden (Helicopter Engines). Didn't know Bradley but respect to him for producing such a machine.
World class editing and video quality...not to forget sound...big thumbs up!
Mr Walsh, I salute you Squire
I really like the styling and it's nice to know it's a true Aston underneath as well. DB9 is a great car, so you can't go wrong using it as the basis. The lines evoke the DB's of the 60's in a tasteful fashion. Much respect for the team that is putting this together as it looks great and the quality is impressive.
I like it more of a mix of the db5 and a volvo p1800. It's a really nice looking beast
I like it. It is a nice tribute to the heritage with modern sensibilities. And I like every angle, including the rear. The only change I would make is to hide the screen, to keep it from aging.
I really like it. Really, really like it. What a wonderful piece of craftsmanship. A special thing indeed. Bradley Walsh should be proud.
I just saw one of these driving in London today, it was driving along Old Street. I was captivated, it looks very, very nice. Seeing it in person is very different to watching it in a video, it looks so much better in person.
I just look at the number plate of the car in this video, it has the same number plate as the one which I saw today - I took pictures. Lol
A beautiful piece of engineering. Real head turner.
As a previous and proud employee of ast*n for many years i say well done Bradley! What a great car. Nice one.
Looks like a car from Grand Theft Auto V. Has some incredible presence on the road though, great work by all.
Amazing car....respect BAE's owners in coming with this car
Difficult to execute a ‘homage’ to the DB5 given so many have tried. This looks fabulous. An excellent effort that strikes just the right note. Well done to all concerned and thanks for bringing it to the channel.
To my eye, better than any Zagato reiteration I’ve seen…..
Very balanced and flowing design. If you’d never seen the DB5/6 you’d love this “Aston” and would think the DB5/6 looked pleasant but not quite right….. 🙂
Beautiful looking car, I like that it’s got exclusivity about it. You’d certainly stand out in that..job well done
Bloody love it back end too.
Great review as always James. Microbrands more and more common in many luxury goods. Great vision and execution by the makers which is an immense achievement. Just missing Louis Armstrong playing in the background on your closing credits !
Great guy and a great car. What passion.
That car is gorgeous.
Great review. Change the wheels for chrome wire wheels of 18 or 19 in.Agree with others to put in some amber & red tail lenses. Maybe make the front fenders just a tad less 'bulbous' and I think it would look even better.
i think its the most beautiful thing ever
I own a MY10 DBS and think this car looks really good😎
It looks BONKERS! Congratulations to everyone involved with this project.
To the person that opts to own this and journey down the road less travelled… respect to you for not conforming to the supercar masses.
Epic soundtrack
Lovely car couldn't be better,a dream 🤗
Love that car!!!! the curve of the roof looks like TT mk1 very, very cool. Beautiful
Now that's an interesting car and will be exclusive with the limited production run
At start of video, I agreed with Jay...rear slightly odd, but by the end, it had grown on me. If I had £300k to spare, I'd definitely go for one... always fancied an Aston, but current ones don't quite do it for me, and my dream one (80s V8 Vantage POW) more than this now!
Love the look and sound of this car , where can I get more information on the BAE Vanyare?
Thanks
That sound. I could listen to it forever.
This is fab…..I mean I love the Khan Vengeance too….retro I’d feel yet proper artisan coach work and design….noice!
Not heard of the Vengeance before, thanks for the info!
Brilliant video as always, I found out about this car on the Fueling around podcast with Bradley Walsh as a guest - definitely worth a listen if anyone is interested.
Oh and a further note Jay - not that my opinion is asked for but I'm not a massive fan of this Thumbnail / Title combination. It feels a bit too "luring" which can sometimes be great but I think saying Bradley Walsh's Car in the title without an obvious blurred photo isnt necessary for videos of your quality! Just my un-invited 2cents though!
Fantastic car, the styling is amazing!
Go visit an optician!
Hello again, 'JayEmm', It looks great, well done to Bradley and the BAE guys. Regards, RichardA.
I love it! Wheels and everything! I think it’s worth the money too which I didn’t think I would say. Keeping in mind the customer production one is an improvement on this preproduction car I just think it has everything. Lovely styling! An excellent heart upfront and chassis! The sound! Even the colour! Could I ever afford one? Nope! But of all the ultra low number cars of this ilk I’ve seen this one captured me more than any other. Thank you for sharing and I thought the “morphing” segment of the different era Astons was brilliant and really did look similar to the Vantare
Holy cow that is pretty amazing Of Bradly Walsh to do this I never knew this side.
I can't work out if it's ugly or really beautiful.
It's like the Sarah Jessica Parker of the car world.
I shall feel conflicted the rest of the day...
Haha, I know what you mean...
From an angled side/front view it has a whif of the Morgan Aero 8 front end. Another car that looks superb from certain angles and a bag on the head in others. As a car though it’s a love letter to a bygone era and you can’t help but like it.
Ah wasn’t sold when ah first seen it but what a glorious machine man 👌🏼
The thing sounds amazing you’d go bank rupt on petrol wae bootin it so you could listen tae it
Love the look of this car. The price also seems very reasonable.
I have seen this car before but this video is ,in my opinion is far far better put together . So close to greatness would be how I sum this vehicle but still I am thankful cars like this exist
I had to laugh. It was almost like a parody episode of “Top Gear” - your wife in the passenger seat thinking “oh do shut up “Jeremy, we’re supposed to be on a weekend away”
Love this channel. What a gem of a car. Thanks jay 👍🏼👍🏼
much nicer than a DB9. Big up Bradley for following his passion and making it happen.
Beautiful, I like it. It takes some looking to understand it, but that makes it better. It migjt be an adquiered taste. 😋😂
Love it. Fantasy as it should be.
The car looks amazing. Its got the zagato look, front end has hint of classic ferrari. I would get 1 if i had the money.
Great video. Smaller rims would look better and maybe square up the front. The rear resembles a Rover 3.5 Coupe which is not a bad thing.
The car is beautiful!
This homage to the original DB5 reminds me of the redesign of the original Mini by Frank Stephenson which is perfect (NOT the bloated countryman and other variants)
Beautiful, well done Bradley & team.
Let me start by saying I have spent some time around the BAE Vantare, I can honestly say its a grower that it looks awesome in the flesh, especially in modern traffic where it just looks sensational compared to modern stuff. Not sure why but it looses some of the drama when viewed on a screen. Also worth pointing out that its a coachbuilt car hence there is a degree of customisation available, meaning the rear lights and wheel/tyre sizes could be tailored to individual tastes. Personally I love the interior (especially the crackle finish vents) which takes the game on from a DB9, also has Apple Carplay and Android Auto which is really all you need these days from a car stereo. These cars wont appeal to everyone, I think thats the point with limited run cars, look at the Mclarren Senna and all Zagato Astons. Im not totally unbiassed but I have seen and commend the amount of hard graft that goes into creating these statement vehicles. My only criticism, they are selling them to cheap and I’ve told the team this!
Great work Bradley. Cool car for a great guy.
Always liked Bradley Walsh. Like him even more now
What an absolutely wonderful thing
Thank you for letting me know it exists 🙌🏻
What a beautiful looking and sounding car , love it
It looks like a sixties concept sketch, I dig it. More than the David Brown Automotive.
Edit: reminds me of the Invicta S1.
Well done for this channel being different and the same goes for the car Bradley and his team. Funny how horses for courses I actually prefer the back to the front find those lights bit too busy. Slightly smaller wheels you steering wheel and maybe some insignia badges that's a bit more impressive would help, especially a limited-edition plaque if there's only going to be 10
I saw this at the Goodwood Members meeting and I’m sorry but I just can’t get over the looks. It sounds amazing though!
I love it. Agree with the comments about the rear lights and taller rubber. My only concern is that they are selling it much too cheap. They could add £200k to the price and still be lower priced than the competition. At the price James mentioned i think they will lose money.
Horror show. A DB9 is an epically beautiful car without having to take a spanner to it. For anyone to reduce a DB9 to this requires having too much money, too much time on your hands, and being surrounded by people who tell you that everything you do is spiffing.
Looks very special, sounds great.P.S like the shirt.
Not my favorite reviewer but must admit he does cover some interesting cars. Also like his American car reviews cos he doesn’t immediately make the stupid mistake all British journalists by comments on the size and steering quality. So maybe he does deserve a tv channel due to his concise and unbiased views. Well done
