This is a cover of a Trent Reznor song, recorded for Johnny's final album while he was dying of cancer. He lived a very hard life including overcoming bouts with drugs and alchohol. He no doubt felt these lyrics to his core.
I've heard this song hundreds of times and it still makes me cry as does the video. Many singers have said this song and video tears them up too. It's one of the most powerful pieces of music ever written and recorded.
This song draws out deep emotion from us old folks' with lots of regrets. Was surprised to see it affect Ashley this strongly at such a young age. She appears to be very empathic. Sweet girl.

When I was early 60's, I told my wife, who was mid 50's people probably thought she was my daughter instead of my wife. She passed away at 57 fifteen years ago, wonder how it would progressed . Trent Reznor, the author, said that hearing this version felt like he had lost his girlfriend. He commented that it was now Johnny's song and that he had only carried it a while for him. Two of my favorite Johnny songs are The Man In Black (live version from right after he wrote it) and The Man Comes Around. At first Cash didn't think he could be something he wanted to do but after playing it many times they contacted Trent who wrote the song. He okay'd it. He had second thoughts until he saw the video that Cash did for this and said, "This is Johnny's song now." When his and June's daughter came and watched it, she said, "It sounds like you are saying goodbye." He replied, "I am." June died just a few months after this and Johnny just a short 3-4 months later. It was the last time he played the piano at the end. There was so much of his life that was shown in various stages of it. June was the love of his life and Johnny for her. He wrote the Ring of Fire for her. Check that one out. It's about the passion that lasted his whole life.

As do I, at 61 years old I am well acquainted with both Johnny Cash and the regret he feels about things in my past. This is a powerful reminder and lesson to younger people, life is too short, enjoy what you have and be kind to those who love you.

When I was a little boy my grandmother listened to the radio as she fixed breakfast. The song "Boy named Sue" always made me smile. Try that one on for size. The song Boy Named Sue was about 1966 and it is a very good one.

A real great song to listen and react to is "I've been in the storm too long" by Canton Spirituals and "I can't give up" by Lee Williams and spiritual qc's. You will not be disappointed. Those are true heartfelt songs.

Another VERY sad song is James Blunt's Monsters. It's a song sung to his dad. His dad was dying of kidney failure. I've seen big burly bikers bawl their eyes out. Ashley, have a big box of tissue!!!! Very moving.

it is a really hard to sit through especially if you lost someone in your life or going through a personal hell. I cried also as much as I tried not too. I lost 7 family members in 6 months including my mom. If it wasn't for cancer treatment, it would have been my wife being 8. As I tell people, it's better to laugh and dance than cry and sulk.

Johnny Cash was only 71 years old here, and I say that because I am 69. He looks so very old and the truth is that he just was not. I have so many friends who are 85 and look so much better than Johnny did here. Drugs and alcohol play so much on what makes a person look old. This is a great recording and I'm a huge fan, but believe me you don't have to look as bad as he did.
This he literally did for the first not long before he died. It was remake, nine inch nails tune. He wife on the staircase died a few months after they shot this, then he died a few months after she did.
There's nothing wrong crying it tells you what it feels like and what he feels like that he's aching for the love that he's that he's gone and so he passed on and he's alone give your woman a hug man and tell her how much you love her do it now why you still have this moment
