Street Fighter II on Game Boy is enhanced with Super Game Boy features like cool backgrounds that change on the Super Game Boy when played on a television or HDTV. This is really impressive! The game almost look the same as the 16-bit arcade original! Sure, its not as fast but considering the different limitations of both systems, this is very good! A while back I was sitting in the car, waiting and playing on my original Game Boy. The game I was playing was none other than the awesome shoot em up Solar striker and it really felt like I had an arcade cabinet in the palms of my hands. Street Fighter 2 for the Game Boy ads to this experience. Will make sure to pick it up in a near future!

I just played through this game earlier today. It didn't seem very difficult to play through the arcade version was more of a challenge to beat.

Although 3DS Homebrew has now grown to the point where even Super Turbo can be emulated flawlessly on it at this point, I still stand by that statement I made 6 years ago. :p
Capcom was always the master at doing things with platforms that were previously thought to be beyond the hardware's limits--look at the final two NES "Mega Man" games.
Even today I play "Final Fight" and find new things of which I didn't think late-80s arcade games were capable.

i used to have this! this was my very first street fighter game
i like how did three versions of the gameboy do that more often :D
Those dots are all over the background because the game was glitching. The contacts on the Super GameBoy adaptor were probably dirty, or it wasn't placed into the SNES firmly.
i love all the music from the old sf games.
its amazing how much better this is than the mortal kombat games on the game boy im a mk fan but id pick this over any of thr mk games on the game boy

The Game Boy version of Street Fighter II has some of the best chiptune music ever!
It's also not a bad fighter for the Game Boy. It's one of my favorite Game Boy games.

i had this one, used to play it all day long! and i played via link cable with a friend sometimes, but it was LAGGISH AS HELL XD

Finally he looked into getting the GCN adapter and the Super gameboy, I think his first few vids were spammed with these.
For people looking for a real port of SFII, get the one for GBA, Turbo Revival. The game has very good art for the characters, probably the best for SFII.

Midway didn't go out of business because of MK vs. DC. Te game game actually sold very well. They went out of business because it was too little, too late.
After all these years, that caged chicken on Chun Li's stage is finally dead.
Man, if I had this game back at that time, I would have lost my shit. It looks better than I thought at the time.

There is this thing you can buy for your NES to play Gameboy games on it. I believe its called the Adventure vision and its on Retrousb.com
Yeah, I can understand if you were a kid in the '90s who only had a Game boy or not any of the home consoles (e.g. SNES, Mega Drive) to play SFII on, but I could only see the Game Boy SFII as being a collector's item.
That's pretty funny to think about playing SFII on a gameboy. Looks pretty impressive for the platform. Now, if only we can get you in Chun Li rehab. That is the cheapest pick of any character.

@JollySilver Heck yea, there was NO excuse for this, especially from Capcom, and the time it was made. Look at Killer Instinct on GB.. It looked and played amazing. Side by side it looked like both games were made in different times on different systems, same for the Mortal Kombat on GB. Rare was the only one who got it right, Killer Instinct was the best fighting game on the GB hands down.

You needed to blow in the cart a little more theres some glitches on the super gameboy clips

@waddledee1000 An HDTV(720p) but anything seems to look better/sharper. Genesis, NES, Playstation all have nice visuals, GBA player just has a weird blur to it. I can't help but wonder if it's a filter they have enabled only.

Try the Tiger handheld, it makes this look like the 3do version.
i didnt know this came out on gameboy if i knew that when it came out i would have got it. street fighter 2 turbo was like crack to me on snes as a kid.
thanks for reviewing this version, i alway's wanted to know how street fighter2 dit look in color o the supergameboy and gameboyplayer,and eventrough they look similar on both systems.
i don't know wich system to prefer to run this game on,but i personaly don't care about the background borders on SGB cuzz it does,nt make the game more beautyfull,it,s only for decoration,but the title and option screen looks great in color.
This game plays best on a gameboy color, because gameboy color gives a 20%boost to all black and white game boy games.
i 'm amezed how capcom managed to dare to port this game on gameboy,not only are some soundeffects identical to the snes version,but also the graphics comes far close to the snes version,but some level and 3 bonus levels are missing,also the background animations and many details are removed and the levels are shortened,also the voice samples are gone,wich could,ve be possible unless it causes extra delay?

it's sad that SSF2T never had a faithful arcade port, the clostest one is the Dreamcast version
SF2 - Chun Li doesn't have a fireball... I believe she got one for SF2 Turbo. Sad that they made that mistake.

This and Battle arena toshinden are fun to play, try the gameboy version of killer instinct or mortal kombat for absolute craptastic moments.
In one of the reviews (I think it was Capcom Vs. SNK 2), he states he loves exploiting cheap character attacks. Lol well he really knows how to do so XD

@bigguyjames34 actually the music sucked, but the graphics were passed 8 bit. its kind of like 12 bit.
@kuunami Im disagree the sprite's flicker, the controls are laggy and unresponsive the backgrounds or plain and boring compared to the nintendo's actual port. But still its controls much better than KOF series which were also on GB. If your looking for a playable fighter for the gb try world heroes 2 jet.

If you play the game on the hardest setting it actually gives you a "closing" story about the winner of the "Street Fighter Tournament"

does the delay effect gameplay enough to frustrate players?
The delay makes the game much easier, so if you don't like really easy games this version isn't for you. The delay is pretty frustrating at times but you can get use to it. Also if you're are collecting gameboy carts like me you'll find that this game is a pretty cheap and decent portable version of one of gamings best fighters!
I just picked up this game today. The delay makes it look weird, but it doesn't play weird, you can do dragon punches just fine. It's really fun. One annoyance is if you fight yourself (Chun-li vs Chun-li) you can lose track of which one is you. Worth picking up.

@waddledee1000 gamecube does s video from its analog port in the back if you have an older gamecube it has a "digital" port on the back which you can get component cables for but theyre really expensive
Is it just me or has Mark really speed up the video releases. I mean .. 2-3 videos a day. I like it! Soon I'll be having trouble keeping up watching :)
