Fujitown is a hell of a place. Love the push here dude - challenging the viewer? LOVE IT.

Also really great point about the X-H2 being great for "shooting close, and filling the frame". Very true. Otherwise, my X-H2s is better.

I’m eager to try an xh2 when they send me one, I have no doubt that in some cases it’s superior. But I have no doubt that those are hard cases to achieve lol. And the xh2s is more versatile and better in more situations

@@heymikeriley Very, very true man. I'm experiencing it first hand. Trouble is, for portraits, the X-H2 is the play but the AF in low light isn't as confident as the X-H2s. The box on the screen might be there but the results aren't.

I Agee with you in regards to the kit (X-H2S and 150-600) generally. I've been using it for months for wildlife and I'm happy with the results with relatively slow moving subjects. The performance when shooting BIFs, however, is a 6 out of ten at best. My Nikon D500 performed much better with this type of shooting. I'm waiting patiently for firmware updates. Nothing else will bring this camera to the next level unless someone can come up with a settings combination that will work. To date, I haven't seen a magic formula for this.

I disagree with you there. I also owned a d500 and wouldn’t put it anywhere in the same ballpark.
I’d argue you’re probably comparing different scenarios too.
A dslr obviously uses a different focusing method and has no tracking. If you put the xh2s to a centre zone with no tracking, it’s going to perform much more like a traditional dslr. Sometimes the tracking may not be to your liking, but I think a lot of us forget we can turn it off if it’s not working in a situation.
I offer my apologies in advance, but I also get triggered by the hit rate argument LOL. I’ve never seen a photographer who makes images that I care about at all talk about their hit rate. 6/10 sharp shots when you’re shooting 20/30 fps works out to 12-18 sharp photos… per second.
People argue that they need a higher hit rate to get that ‘perfect pose’.
Let’s say you’re shooting a hawk attacking a squirrel… and the strike lasts 1-2 seconds and you’re shooting at 6/10 for a hit rate… you’re still talking 18-36 keepers. Surely there’s one in there that’s a banger lol.
All I can speak is from experience. People rave about canon and I had a bazillion photos on it and never had a situation where the autofocus caused me to miss shots. I also never have that problem on the Fuji.
That doesn’t mean it never missed a frame, but I mean when I’m shooting 15-30 fps, I always walk away with at least a few good frames from whatever I was machine-gunning at.
So to me, whichever system is better is irrelevant. They both put more sharp photos on my computer than I need and most of those get deleted because I’m only going to keep the 3-4 frames that I really care about.

@@heymikeriley No the performance of BIF shooting is 6/10

    • @heymikeriley
      @heymikeriley  2 года назад

@@MrPjtmac ah I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t shoot a lot of BIF because the shots usually bore me, but I’ve had really steady results with this setup. If I’m expecting to shoot flying birds, I usually change from single point tracking to zone tracking.
I also usually shoot 15-20 fps. The autofocus for moving subjects at 40fps is pretty sketchy. It’s ok at 30, but if I’m tracking something I find 15-20 is the sweet spot.

XH2 and 150-600mm. I’d take the higher resolution (more pixels on target) over a slightly faster AF on the XH2s, any day. But I mostly shoot perched birds, I think BIF is overrated.
I also shoot a Nikon D780 + 200-500mm when I want better image quality and don’t mind the weight.

I’ll have some tests in on the two bodies when Fuji eventually sends a review copy. I’m too small of a channel to have gotten one earlier lol.
It depends what you value in a camera. As I’ve said constantly, video is very important to me and the xh2s is way better there. The resolution bump in the xh2 probably only really shines if you’re shooting subjects you can fill the frame to really enjoy those extra pixels. But I agree, if you prefer animal portraits and can get close, the xh2 could deliver more detail.
