@@deandredukes95 his bankai didn't do that, his bankai hid the god killing sword by incorporating it as if it was his. He was only able to do that because of his relationship with his love, giving him a connection to the family blade, and the purpose to hide it. It would have rejected him if his purpose was to ever use the blade, but hiding it to protect the true wielder of the blade allowed it to happen.
Remember how senjimarus bankai had lille baro shoot himself by reflecting his attacks? And how pernida died to black sand? (Kurotsuchi translates to black sand) She wove /sealed their fates back then.
I mean the who Senjimaru Bandai was not in the manga so its basically retcon added to the anime to make it seem like they’re defeat was because of Senjiramu

Lille is flipping bizarre and I like it! The creepy sound his eyes make when they're blinking. In the manga, I was grossed out by this transformation but the anime has completely sold me on both of Lille's Vollstandig forms.
Remember it took Yama being obliterated to stop him, even while only having half a torso and one arm he was moving lol. Injuries in Bleach went from being physical to spiritual when TYBW came around. Long gone are the days where getting cut by a sword a few times was fatal, like Ichigo being taken out by a single stab from Kenpachi, or almost losing consciousness from a bump in the head from Renji. Anatomy seems to be optional when it comes to the older souls.

Incredible episode just like last week we are introduced to more pain. Shinsui has always been one of my favourite captains just because he's so laid back even in the most serious of situations. He doesn't want to fight and avoids confrontations by any means but if he's forced to fight then he gives it his all. We had no idea what kind of luggage he was carrying. Having a dead brother and his wife being executed, given a sword that's supposedly cursed and then having to take care of the daughter of the two. Keeping such a secret and having to carry a big burden on his back. He really needs a vacation... Hell even a retirement because he can't deal with all the bs everyone is giving him. I salute this man and I hope he takes a well deserved break before getting back into action. Lille is a monstrosity... If his first design wasn't creepy enough... This second one takes the cake but man was he tough to beat. There is no way he is coming back but with this season you can't take anything for granted until Yhwatch gets got. This cour has been absolutely insane and I can't wait to see where the last eps of this cour goes before we have to wait a bit until cour 4. Nanao is definitely a brave girl. The amount of pressure and fear she had to overcome since she was never a frontline fighter was incredible. Kyoraku supporting her was she needed to reflect that blast back at him. That man's power was off the charts and yet it was his own blast that killed him. Quite the fitting end for a guy who was proclaimed to be the god's messenger. 10/10 episode once again and I can't wait for more. Great review Brandon.
It's not literally giving birth per se. Notice how Katen is missing her right eye while Kyokotsu has her whole face covered up EXCEPT for her right eye, implying that Katen used her right eye as a catalyst to manifest Kyokotsu.
Lille's design works way better animated and voiced, imho. The vertical iris' opening and closing, the magnificent, angelic golden wings, with the head of an owl, an animal known for being a sharp-eyed predator, and in my part of the world (Ozark Mountains), owls are heralds of death, calling out to the sick and dying, giving them one last hour to finish whatever business the individual may have. It may be silly in the abstract, but like you stated, that thing staring you down, gigantic eyes blinking... F*** that.
That sucks that her family has a curse that ends the life of their significant other early. This worshipper couldn't handle the strongest power, FAMILY!
Shunsui is the best example of "Soul Society is not heaven." Image this you're always a good human, you die for whatever reason, and think you gonna rest in heaven but... No! You are sent to SS into Rukongai the ghetto of SS and are forced to survive there without knowing anything and no family. Then the only shimmer of hope is if you have potential as a Soul to become a Soul reaper. You wrestle your way up to the ranks of a Captain with hardships and everyone thinks you did it. Got out of the slumps, became rich. But no no.. you are forced to live with something you believe is a curse. You see your brother die. Your step sister die. Have to take care of their child without letting her know. See your mentor die, 2 of your best friends (Kuruyashiki and Ukitake) your senior Unohana. Forced to take responsibility over Sereitei and step into your mentors shoes. Even though Shunsui was born in the SS as a pure Shinigami his life was still hell. Also i completely agree how great this was executed with the flashback being cut back and forth and not just like a 10 min flashback straight. Love to see Kubo finally getting the chance to cook and have such a great team behind it
What an amazing ep. I was so engrossed that I blinked and it ended! I'm praying that Mayuri left around one or more of those curative capsules coz I really don't wanna Shinsui to die, especially now that it came up Nanao is his niece and all and I wanna see the evolution in their relationship.
Okay this episode was great but as soon as it's revealed that he is here uncle made me go WTF because I don't recall Shunsui ever hitting on Nanao but their interactions early in the series seem super sus now
Same, I wish their was some sort of foreshadow of their familial relationship as I always assumed that they shared no blood ties and him seeing her as a daughter for some reason like he was close to her parents who were close friends to him like, and why no one has mentioned about her lack of zanpakuto earlier on.
what i like about this arc is that the characters that took a backseat in previous arcs finally got their chance to shine specially the lieutenants. Nanao definitely had a chance to shine in this episode…. Pun intended lol

I am still dont understand the power of the sword that Nanao use... Yeah it reflects any attack ,but still? What curse? All the men they love are dead,and? No solution.... Also i wish to see real complete sword not split on two...
It isn't exactly an actual sword It is a ceremonial sword used to dance for priest which is why it looks so weird As for it power it seem to be made to only work on godly being as shown by the fact only Barro saw it shine, the curse might be a trade off for it ability to hurt and reflect those type of being

amazing episode amazing music amazing adaptation, but the plot in this episodee was so fucking bad more you rewatch it and more it doesn't make anysense,random asspulled deus ex machina sword check,perfect counter ability check,nanao dosn't know how to use a sword check,explained power to lillee check,smart enemy become an idiot check, any way you watch it it just bad,it's just a waste of an amazing enemy, lille was so cool

I absolutely love the drastic change of pacing and style in modern Bleach, it's much more cinematic and feels more like telling the story in scenes.
Easily a top 5 anime of the year, and the best shonen anime of 2024 😊
