11) Jethro Tull - Minstrel In The Gallery Minstrel In The Gallery may be Jethro Tull's best album. I know that sounds crazy when you consider Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, Songs From The Wood, or even Benefit (the album that made me fall in love with Ian Anderson and company). But....I feel like Minstrel In The Gallery is everything Tull was building towards with their previous six or so albums - Folk Rock blended with Hard Rock with a Progressive Rock bent. There are very few records that so seamlessly blend tender folky ballads with hard rocking numbers, sometimes within the same song. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the nearly vinyl side long "Baker Street Muse". But honestly, the whole record is great from start to finish, with no weak songs on it. And I can't neglect to mention the beautiful "One White Duck", probably the highlight of Ian Anderson's acoustic guitar work (which is freakin' incredible here). I think more than anything this album proves that Tull is at their best when they aren't trying to be something specific (Hard Rock, Folk Rock, Progressive Rock, Blues Rock), but when they are just trying to be themselves, which is a blend of a bunch of genres that somehow works. Minstrel In The Gallery is absolutely one of Jethro Tull's greatest works. The album has stood the test of time, and is clearly a Rock masterpiece. 1) Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver 2) Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel 3) Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand 4) Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser 5) ZZ Top - Fandango! 6) Eagles - One Of These Nights 7) Linda Ronstadt - Prisoner In Disguise 8) Neil Young - Zuma 9) Bob Marley & The Wailers - Live! 10) Strawbs - Ghosts 11) Jethro Tull - Minstrel In The Gallery
Hi Chris, I had this one earlier as you may recall and, while it's not my personal favourite of theirs, it's certainly top 5... and there's more to come thus year, clearly, even if JT is more like IA solo these days...
Hey Chris. Except for Aqualung which I loved immediatly. Jethro Tull's music has to grow on me. That's what "Minstrel in the Gallery" is doing with me now. It did make my list already though a few days ago.
Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic There are some outstanding songs on this one. No More No More may be my favorite. //Scorpions - In Trance //Rush - Fly By Night //Budgie - Bandolier //Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow //Styx - Equinox //MTB - Searchin' For A Rainbow //Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy //Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band //Steve Hillage - Fish Rising //ZZ Top - Fandango!
My selection for day 11 is Bad Company - Straight Shooter. Paul Rodgers all over the album - great follow up to their debut and they didn't let down on any promises they made. Good Lovin' Gone Bad, Feel Like Makin' Love, Shootin' Star all became staples of the band's setlist. Good one through and through
1975 was the year of Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery. Brilliant album with the 16-minute plus Baker Street Muse epic. Great year for music. But this is the one that I continually listen.
Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac (# 8) Career redefining album for the British American blues-folk-pop rock band. Very smooth California sound drenched throughout. Foreshadowed things to come on the popular music scene. Tons of hits: Monday Morning, Rhiannon, Say You Love Me, and Landslide I teeter between the eerie Rhiannon and peaceful Landslide as my favorites. A great chill album.
I always thought that Fleetwood Mac was a good band before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined up. After they did, man did they ever begin to sparkle. "The Dance" which was released in1997 is one of the finest live albums ever produced. Lyndsey's, "I'm So Afraid" which is a fine song on your pick of the day, gets fleshed out as a masterpiece with his brilliant guitar solo.
The self titled or alternatively sometimes known as THE WHITE ALBUM from FLEETWOOD MAC. An album that completely revitalised the band's career commercially setting them up for massive album sales and to become one of the biggest concert attractions in the world. The catalysts of course being the recruitment of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. They both make their presence felt immediately both from their performances and their songwriting. Buckingham provides some of the harder edged songs in the form of Monday Morning and Blue Letter as well as the blues rock of I'm So Afraid, which harks back to the group's early roots. He also duets with Christine McVie on the country rock of World Turning. Stevie makes her presence felt on one of the band's most celebrated tracks, the mystical Rhiannon as well as the ethereal ballad, Landslide. Christine, as ever provides some sublime pop rock with Say You Love Me and Sugar Daddy as well as the ballads Warm Ways and Over My Head, all sung with that angelic voice of hers. As an album it's sales figures are impressive enough, but of course pale when placed alongside Rumours. It is arguable though that without this album, those that followed would never have been made.
Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. My pick today is VENUS AND MARS by WINGS. Band On The Run was a tough act to follow, and Macca and his expanded band at least partially succeeded. There's some great rockers on here, like Rockshow and Call me Back Again, both live favourites, and the bluesy Letting Go. Listen To What The Man Says was one of my singles of 75 - some terrific sax from Tom Scott. But the melancholy Treat her Gently - Lonely Old People is just classic McCartney (or as Lennon might have said - Granny music) and I love it.
Excellent pick Dave. Not quite Band On The Run, but one of Paul's best nonetheless. Lennon could definitely be a little tough on his former partner's solo work.
Pick #21: Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery. #31: Bad Company's Straight Shooter #30: Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte #29: Kiss's Alive #28: ZZ Top's Fandango #27: Scorpions' In Trance #26: Hawkwind's Warrior on the Edge of Time #25: Nazareth's Hair of the Dog #24: Eloy's Power and the Passion #23: Renaissance's Scheherazade and Other Stories #22: Doobie Brothers' Stampede #21: Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery
Heart - Dreamboat Annie, their debut. A fantastic album. Obviously the brilliant Magic Man and Crazy On You are the best known songs, but there's so much more to love. The folky Soul of the Sea and Roger Fisher's heavy rocking guitar showcase Sing Child are among some of the other gems included.
Lynyrd Skynyrd Nuthin' Fancy 3rd album, new drumster, Artimus Pyle, what a name. With their all-timer Saturday Night Special exploding at needle drop, They matured into top-notch form. Ronnie Van Zant giving Gregg Allman a run for his money. My favorite southern rock vocal man, cuts the heart, Even more so after the plane crash. The triple guitar attack continues, Ed King's ugly departure after the crazy tour. Like Aerosmith those rock stars hit the big time and get a bit crazy. Even had a couple guests with a bit of harmonica and mandolin. Happy sad uplifting rollicking butt kicking party time. I guess many of our 1975 heroes are all up there rocking in Heaven's Super Band. Rock in Peace!
Hi Ziggy, I only have this as an HM this month, which may be criminal in some eyes, but if you take out Saturday Night Special, the rest is just "good", as opposed to great, so it slipped off my final list in the end...
@iainhead9898 I agree the swinging swaggery gear isn't quite as often hit on this one. I think it's more of a chill album, by their standards. But one of the bands I grew up with.
Day 21: Camel- The Snow Goose Day 31: Lynyrd Skynyrd- Nuthin’ Fancy Day 30: The Allman Brothers Band- Win, Lose or Draw Day 29: Styx- Equinox Day 28: Kansas- Song For America Day 27: Kansas- Masque Day 26: Scorpions- In Trance Day 25: Thin Lizzy- Fighting Day 24: Chris Squire- Fish Out of Water Day 23: Steve Hackett- Voyage of the Acolyte Day 22: David Bowie- Young Americans
21. Styx - Equinox - mostly mentioned for the hits, Lorelei, Light Up, and Suite Madame Blue 31. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin’ Fancy 30. Scorpions - In Trance 29. Willie Nelson - Red headed Stranger 28. Elton John - Rock of the Westies 27. Heart - Dreamboat Annie 26. Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic 25. David Bowie - Young Americans 24. Wings - Venus and Mars 23. The Who - The Who by Numbers 22. Parliament - Mothership Connection 21. Styx - Equinox
Day 11 Still Crazy After All These Years by Paul Simon CBS records. Paul sings here about different subjects including reminiscing about old times on the title track. More memories about growing up in My Little Town sung with his former singing partner Art Garfunkel and advice received about leaving your lover on 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover. A good album for sure, maybe for me not his strongest, l think There Goes Rhymin' Simon is my favourite, closely followed by Graceland. Gone At Last and My Little Town a couple of my favourites.
@@keithjones6023 Absolutely. I often irk people when I say that Simon and Garfunkle are my favorite US band of the 60s/70s, but he really is a phenomenal songwriter.
Day 11 - “Fighting”, Thin Lizzy Day 10 - “Straight Shooter”, Bad Company Day 9 - “Venus And Mars”, Wings Day 8 - “Stampede”, The Doobie Brothers Day 7 - “Dressed To Kill”, Kiss Day 6 - “Hair Of The Dog”, Nazareth Day 5 - “Nuthin’ Fancy”, Lynyrd Skynyrd Day 4 - “Red Octopus”, Jefferson Starship Day 3 - “Fleetwood Mac”, S/T Day 2 - “Still Crazy After All These Years”, Paul Simon Day 1 - “Caress Of Steel”, Rush
Day 21 pick is The Great Fatsby by Leslie West. This was an album with 5 origionals the best being Dont Burn Me High Roller and Doctor Love not the Kiss song. And the other 5 were great covers done the Leslie West way. The best being House of The Rising Sun. Honky Tonk Women and Little Bit Of Love. Notable musicians were Mick Jagger Rhythm Guitar. Gary Wright Piano. Corky Laing Drums. Don Kretmar Bass and Dana Valleri co lead and backup singer.
Thank you zlatan. Have a good listen zlatan. I wish i could say its sunny and 70 here in the midwest but we havent seen 30 in a few days now. But it is sunny for today.
Thank you danny. Yes the Mick. There was only one other guitarist listed i never heard of the other one. And the liner notes werent specific in what song Mick was on. Its just the thought of him being part of the band. I know he did a good job on Sway by the Stones.
Today’s pick is Face the Music from Electric Light Orchestra . It contains the great Strange Magic , One Summer Dream , Evil Woman , and Fire On High . Thanks !
Hi everyone, hope we're enjoying our weekends and the disparate weather conditions aren't affecting us too much, especially anyone who's been in LA these last few days... Today, I'm heading back homewards again and, as with Mr Harvey and his Sensational Band a couple of days ago, it's the turn of another gravelly voiced Scottish powerhouse and his equally talented combo, namely Mr Dan McCafferty and... NAZARETH "Hair Of The Dog" (Mooncrest) Their 6th and, arguably, best album, it's certainly their most successful, largely due to the success of their cover of The Everly Bros.' Love Hurts, but also, hopefully, because of the crunching title track, the epic and magnificent Please Don't Judas Me, not to mention Miss Misery and Whiskey Drinking Woman, as well as the other covers, Randy Newman's Guilty and Crazy Horse's Beggars Day. The band's 70s output was staggeringly consistent, and this one possibly tops the lot, although I could probably make arguments for nearly half of them!
A Sensational album! Agree, the vocals are outstanding.Ah, memories of schooldays. Like you I hope that any of the SOT community from LA are safe and well. I was playing Rival Sons Before the Fire this morning and the lyrics were poignant. (LIghtbringer Album)
My favorite albums turning 50. In no particular order: Day 11: Kansas - Song For America My favorite tracks: “Song for America” “Lamplight Symphony” “The Devil Game” Day 11: Kansas - Song For America Day 10: Eagles - One Of These Nights Day 9: Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver Day 8: Foghat - Fool For the City Day 7: Styx - Equinox Day 6: ELO - Face the Music Day 5: Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks Day 4: Jethro Tull - Minstrel in the Gallery Day 3: Nazareth - Hair of the Dog Day 2: Angel - Angel Day 1: David Bowie - Young Americans
@@weirddebbiem1619 hi Debbie. Fantastic picks and list. Match today and with your pick today when I post Kansas. You have two other picks that we’ll have a match with that are you’ve posted already.
Todays pick: Amon Duul II - "Made In Germany" 2 LP concept album taking a look at the history of Germany... a lot more fun than it sounds. More accessible and less experimental than their earlier albums, it still has the spacey weirdness you come to expect from ADII along with some really catchy songs and melodies. Over time this one keeps moving up in their catalog for me.
DAY 11 - RAINBOW- RItchie Blackmores Rainbow stay tuned for article Hi friends. I came across hearing Man On The Silver Mountain back in the day. Would know that I had gotten the album maybe as a gift around xmas or birthday or seen at store but did get it. And well while hearing of the album and taking in what was on it, would hear the hard rock guitar of Ritchie and of course having followed Deep Purple it would be interesting to hear what came on. So as do have the vinyl today with Man On The Silver Mountain starting it off. Hearing this dynamic singer Ronnie James Dio for the first time learning much later of his RJD's band Elf and along of some of the band fill in playing on this Rainbow album. The second album by just called band Rainbow would have members that what be even greater. I would see Rainbow of Rising tour in 76 they would headline. And I would see Rainbow in 78 they would be an opener. Great stage show with the lighted rainbow that would be filled in as the show goes along. Dio would tour of his band in 88 and him In Sabbath 80 that hear and see him sing again. Back to this album. The band Ritchie has on here is rocking. Man On The Silver Mountain 438 - The killer riffs and RJD and his singing super . Self Portrait 316 - A very layer and great rocker. Black Sheep Of The Family 320 A great rockin shaker. Catch The Rainbow 640 The subdued track that is good live and is on the On Stage album extended version. Which I have that album on vinyl. Audience pleaser . Snake Charmer 430 Another rocker Ritchie takes you along. The Temple Of The King 446 A great tune of medieval and good sing of the story line, love it. A track that is good live as well. If You Don't Like Rock n' Roll 236 A rock number that of liking rock and roll. Just ok . Sixteenth Century Greensleeves 335 The track of medieval also which like quite a lot. Still I'm Sad 353 Instrumental of Yardbirds track. And Ritchie with his great playing. Song elevated to even more heights with singing by RJD or others and is on the On Stage album as well. Looking along I give the album a 3.5-3.75. Been quite a while since I relistened to this record and it shows up for this month's exercise. So there ya have it go and give the album a listen and enjoy . Take care love hugs and prayers. Rock and roll. 🎶🎶🎸🎤🎹🥁❤🤗🙏☮ =============== Nice Hawkwind album Pete. Thanks for this days episode. B well.

On Friday July 30th 1999 at the Lawlor Events Center on the campus of the university of Nevada, Reno I was able to check off a favorite band from my concert bucket list. Billed as "The Original Bad Company". Truly a super group. Paul Rodgers was in fine voice and the rest of the band sounded even better than the records. So today it's gotta be 'Straght Shooter'.
#21- Alice Cooper- Welcome to My Nightmare. I admit I bought my first Alice Cooper album because of Vincent Price's cameo on "The Black Widow," which I thought was so cool, and this was way before he appeared on "Thriller." That's being said, there are other amazing songs on this album, including the title track and "Only Women Bleed," which demonstrated Cooper's sensitive side and an ability to write great commercial sounding music as well.
I seem to be having trouble with posting to people and keeping my comments on. Day 11 My pick today is Bob Dylan “Blood on the Tracks” 1 Seals and Crofts “I’ll Play for You” 2 Bruce Springsteen “Born to Run” 3 America “Hearts” 4 Eagles “One of these Nights” 5 Paul Simon “Still Crazy After All These Years” 6 Heart “Dreamboat Anne” 7 Eric Carmen “S/T” 8 Fleetwood Mac “S/T” 9 Nazareth “Hair of the Dog” 10 ELO “Face the Music” 11 Bob Dylan “Blood on the Tracks”
Day11-Steely Dan-Katy Lied. Good album by a very good Classic Rock kind of Prog band. Black Friday and Dr. Wu are the 2 tracks I like a lot on this album. Dr Wu is a great ballad like song. Steely Dan was a band I heard early in life. That is my number 11 pick.
LYNYRD SKYNYRD NUTHIN FANCY. Ignore the title this is very 'fancy'. RVZ is at the peak of this vocal powers on this album. Yes the playing is terrific but for me Ronnie is the river of sound across the album. Saturday Night Special, On the Hunt and Cheatin' Woman are favourites from among all the favourites. Quite simply one of the best ever Southern Rock albums.
Today my pick #21 is Alice Cooper Welcome to my nightmare, his first solo album under that name. A good one, my favorites are the title track, The black Widow, only women bleed a really good ballad. Department of youth, cold ethyl also great songs. 21. Alice Cooper- Welcome to my nightmare 22. The Outlaws- self titled debut 23. Marshall Tucker Band- Searchin’ for a rainbow 24. Blackfoot- No reservations 25. Charlie Daniels band- Nightrider 26. The Who- Who by numbers 27. ELO- Face the music 28. Bob Seger- Beautiful Loser 29. Foghat- Fool for the city 30. Ted Nugent- self titled debut 31. BTO- Head on
# 21 Manfred Mann’s Earth Band: Nightingales and Bombers Perhaps the most underrated record in MMEB’s impressive discography as it is the last one before Chris Thompson was hired as a vocalist. But Mick Rogers does a fine job on “Nightingales and Bombers (even more so as the guitarist) and songs like “Spirits in the Night” and “As Above so Below” belong to the best songs in their catalogue. I saw MMEB live right before Christmas and they were still amazing, especially Manfred Mann (84 years old!) and Mick Rogers (in his seventies). # 22 Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention: One Size Fits All # 23 Neil Young: Tonight’s the Night # 24 Peter Hammill: Nadir’s Big Chance # 25 Be-Bop Deluxe: Futurama # 26 Tangerine Dream: Rubycon # 27 10cc: The Original Soundtrack # 28 Joni Mitchell: The Hissing of Summer Lawns # 29 Jeff Beck: Blow by Blow # 30 Ted Nugent: Ted Nugent # 31 Supertramp: Crisis? What Crisis?
Hello Pete and everyone. My choice for today was the only studio album released by this version of a legendary rock band: Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band The arrival of Tommy Bolin seemed to give the whole band renewed impetus, and they delivered a consistently strong album with some excellent vocal performances from Coverdale and Hughes. My favourite songs are Comin’ Home, Gettin’ Tighter, Drifter and You Keep On Moving, plus the instrumental Owed To ‘G’. Sadly, Tommy’s tragic early death robbed us of one of the most gifted and versatile guitarists of his era. Nos. 11-30 (not ranked) Roxy Music - Siren Kansas - Song For America Foghat - Fool For The City Little Feat - The Last Record Album Wings - Venus And Mars Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow Nils Lofgren - self titled Steely Dan - Katy Lied UFO - Force It Favourite Live Album : Blue Oyster Cult - On Your Feet Or On Your Knees
Hello Bryan. Deep Purple! I've dabbled! 😅 not in any depth though. l do have the album 30:Best of Deep Purple album which does include You Keep On Moving. I really like some of their early stuff, mark 1? And The Address is good, reminds me a bit of early Floyd, The Shield and Wring That Neck a couple more. Take care and bye for now.
@@keithjones6023 Thanks Keith. I remember you saying before that you like Deep Purple’s early material. I’m very much the opposite with their music - I don’t know their Mk 1 albums very well but their classic period during the 70s was excellent.
@@weirddebbiem1619 Thanks very much, Debbie. I know you are very much a Purple fan, so I won’t be surprised if this one is a match later in the month. 😀
Day 11: "Caught in the Act" was released by the Grand Funk Railroad as a second live LP album on the Capitol Records label in Aug. of '75. "Closer to Home" and "Were an American Band" were just a few Funk staples to fill out this double live release. The full, traditional band, carrying the fans but not the critics.
Day # 11: Jefferson Starship - Red Octopus From day#1, by alphabetical order 1. AC/DC - T.N.T. 2. Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic 3. Armageddon - S/T 4. Bachman_Turner Overdrive - Four Wheel Drive 5. Beck Jeff - Blow By Blow 6. Black Sabbath - Sabotage 7. Camel - The Snow Goose 8. Fruupp - Modern Masquerades 9. Gallagher Rory - Against The Grain 10. Hatfield and The North - The Rotters' Club
Missed out on the last few days- work taking its toll Day 9 Rush. Caress of Steel was my entry point, especially taken by Bastille Day, and being prog minded I loved the lengthier pieces but realised longs songs were useless if not great or well composed, so it was soon overtaken in my affection by today's choice, Fly by Night. I love virtually all of this, apart from the slow, turgid, dreary, hippy tolkien banality of Rivendell. Thankfully despite its awfulness it isn't enough to derail the album, which is a testament to the strength of the rest of the tracks given their vaulting superiority over the debut album Day 10- Jethro Tull- Minstrel in the Gallery. Always going to feature but may as well include now as just recently caught up on the JT epic tracks episode. Not my favourite JT album, but certainly up there and superior to most albums that made the short list for this year. We all know its virtues Day 11- Renaissance- Scheherezade and other stories. A monster album let's face it. The epic title track, the perennial favourite Ocean Gypsy, the ever growing ever revealing beauty and magic of Trip to the Fair. Annie's voice, Jon's bass. They never really got their dues at the time, but time and channels like SoT have been kind to Renaissance and the quality is now clear to all in what they were trying to achieve. Their frequent presence on these lists shows they ae appreciated more than they realise
Day 11. I am back! Late to the party this month, but better late than never. Robert Palmer - Pressure Drop. 😃👍. Released in November 1975. Classic blue-eyed soul with deluxe style. This is a stew of cool reggae and rock. When I discovered Mr. Palmer’s 1970s discography, my life changed for the better. That may be hyperbole, but it is darn close! The album cover art embarrassed me a tad as a young person, but I live with it today. Have a great Saturday! Rock Always! - Heather
@@the80slivehere Hi Heather, welcome back. Don't really know this particular album if I'm honest, and the mention of reggae is a bit off-putting for me personally, although Palmer did have a good voice to be fair
1. Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti 2. Black Sabbath Sabotage 3. Robin Trower For Earth Below 4. Aerosmith Toys In The Attic 5. Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here 6. Rush Fly By Night 7. Nazareth Hair Of The Dog 8. Jeff Beck Blow By Blow 9. Deep Purple Come Taste The Band 10. Jethro Tull Minstrel In the Gallery 11. Gentle Giant Free Hand
My pick today will be one I kind of forgot about because I lost it somewhere along the way. I’m talking about my tattered copy of ‘On Your Feet Or On Your Knees’ live album by Blue Oyster Cult.
Day 11 (#21): Weather Report - Tale Spinning 22. Return To Forever - No Mystery 23. Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic 24. Electric Light Orchestra - Face The Music 25. Day 11. Average White Band - Cut the Cake The best American soul/funk/R&B band came from Scotland in the mid 70's. This record has it all; tight percolating grooves, sweet harmonies and super tight arrangements. This is still some tasty tunes here. 1. Miles Davis - Agharta 2. The Dictators - Go Girl Crazy! 3. Larry Coryell and 11th House - Level One 4. Elf - Trying To Burn The Sun 5. Jim Hall - Concierto 6. Grateful Dead - Blues for Allah 7. Rahsaan Roland Kirk - The Case of the 3 Sided Dream in Audio Color 8. Clifton Chenier - Bogalusa Boogie 9. The Meters - Fire on the Bayou 10. Herbie Hancock - Man-Child 11. Average White Band - Cut the Cake
Today's pick is Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All. Up until recently I had never listened to any of Zappa's music, but through the recommendations of many this was the second album of his that I bought, and I think it's really good.
#21 Scorpions - In Trance For me, with “In Trance”, Scorpions' career begins. I don't like the first 2 albums. This album begins with a song like “Dark Lady”, very rocking, and the quality of the songs never drops. The string of classic Scorpions albums begins. Albums That Are 50 Years Old in 2025 #21 Scorpions - In Trance #22 Neil Young - Tonight's the Night / Zuma #23 Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte #24 Kiss - Dressing to Kill / Alive #25 Patti Smith - Horses #26 AC/DC - TNT #27 Neu! - Neu! 75 #28 Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time #29 Budgie - Bandolier #30 Steely Dan - Katy Lied #31 Tangerine Dream - Rubycon

Good pick with the hawkwind I haven't listened to them for a long time so they didn't even make my honorable mentions but it is what it is Day number 11 Elton John Captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboy One of those albums that really grew on me through the years and I really like it a lot The songwriting is amazing between how Bernie and Elton got together and it's like almost an autobiographical thing the way the songs come about of them up to the point of their songwriting and relationship to then The big monster hit a course to this day is still someone saved My Life Tonight. That someone that did save them it is a true story it was the late great long John baldry. You have to Google this behind the stories about it cuz it's a very complicated I like the country rock beginning of the title track Some of my all-time favorite Elton John songs of course the band really comes to play in this one too I mean between Nigel Dee Davy that was still really all together. Tower of Babel fantastic song Tell me when the whistle blows that awesome string arrangement when he brought in the great Gene Paige from the Barry White love orchestra. Gene page of course would would also lend his string arrangement ability and other great ones particularly one of my favorites Jefferson starship sultry love to good from the Earth album. Got to get a meal ticket another rollicking classic Elton 70 style song And then we get to the end The beautiful we All Fall In Love sometimes And then what people have actually when I've brought it up have agreed which surprised me we have Elton John's Hey Jude The song called curtains One listened and if you know about song structure you can see this is his Hey Jude it builds up the same way it repeats the same way right to the end with the Lum Dum Dee day and the oohhh ohh ohhhh Which is basically na na nananana hey jude Add a course to awesome comic book style cover of it which is really awesome.
@dannyhoeykens thanks Danny actually they both are fantastic songwriters of course Bernie is just very underrated look at all the stuff he wrote through the years.

My choice for today is Straight Shooter by Bad Company. I really can’t add much to what others have said about this album but it would have to be on my list for the year. Paul Rodgers is fantastic!
Fairport Convention - Rising for the Moon. The tenth studio album from the folk rock band and the last to feature the wonderful voice of Sandy Denny, standout tracks all sung by Denny include "Rising for the Moon" "What is True" and "One More Chance"
Great pic Pete. We were a gang of fans and young musicians back then, and we were just as experimental as this great work of trippiness, back in the day.😀😉
My number 21 Jethro Tull, Minstrels in the Gallery Jethro Tull is another band that i only got into for real during the Covid19 era, though i had heard Aqualung in my teen years in the 70s. But again, when. I started to listen to more albums of the band, i was totally lost to them. Hawkwind never did anything for me, so you won' t find any of their albums in any of my year lists.
Day 11 and an album that was, unbelievably, 'make or break' for this artist. He was originally promoted as a "New Bob Dylan" - one of many, but the hype failed to turn into sales and he was teetering on the abyss, with his record company threatening to drop him if his third album didn't do the business. He spent 18 months working on this, his third, album. Released in August 1975, Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen became the album that kick-started his career and with the help of his legendary live shows made him a big name. 6 of the 8 songs can be regarded as Bruce classics. From the opening Thunder Road, through the monumental title track to the epic closer, Jungleland, this is all killer, no filler. It would be another 3 years before he could follow this up, due to a law suit from his former manager, but this allowed Born To Run to grow in stature and for his live reputation to fully take hold.
Day 11 - Tonight’s the Night - Neil Young Day 10 - Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd Day 9 - Come Taste the Band - Deep Purple Day 8 - Captured Angel - Dan Fogelberg Day 7 - Fly By Night - Rush Day 6 - Dreamboat Annie - Heart Day 5 - The Who By Numbers - The Who Day 4 - On the Level - Status Quo Day 3 - Crisis? What Crisis? - Supertramp Day 2 - Searchin’ for a Rainbow - The Marshall Tucker Band Day 1 - Tommy Bolin - Teaser
#21 Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare Sometimes I have to review an album over and over; and I get it at the last minute. This happened today as I connected the themes of this album. The only thing that doesn’t fit is the hit “Only Women Bleed”. I couldn’t find the need for this in the story. I suppose it’s just a knockoff of the far superior “Let It Bleed” from The Rolling Stones. It’s not bad just wondering how it fits into “Steven’s” nightmare ??? That aside, this is a brilliant concept album full of exciting music and insightful lyrics. Joined by Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on guitars, this album rocks hard. Both of these dudes played on Billion Dollar Babies a couple years before. The record was produced by Bob Ezrin who along with Wagner and Cooper wrote the songs. I was lucky enough to see this tour. Alice was so entertaining on stage. And the music was dynamic and memorable. When I think about theatrics…the only ones that I saw that compare to Alice Cooper were Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull and obviously a little band called KISS. The songs are all worth a mention as they are uniformly good. “Welcome to My Nightmare” is musically creative with amazing horns. Alice comes off similar in my mind to Jim Morrison as he hollers out the words. Next “Devil’s Food” rocks out brilliantly with the incomparable Vincent Price eerily speaking about the danger of the Black Widow spider at the end. It’s nice and creepy leading into the song “The Black Widow”. This is one of the best songs on this album. Good hard rocker ! “Some Folks” is the real sleeper here. It starts slow and I was about to hit skip when something wonderful happened. I got grabbed ! And I was hooked to this tune with more horns, beautiful guitars & a neat chorus. Very cool tune ! “Department of Youth” is a fine song about adolescents that Cooper was so amazing at doing. And “Cold Eythl” is a monster hard rock gem…and easily the best song here ! The theme gets more serious for the closing numbers. “Years Ago” is nightmarish and malevolent and the profile of a sick person named Steven. “Steven” follows as an epic in the type that the Alice Cooper Band used to do on albums like Killer and Love it To Death. It’s spooky with Alice shouting as if he was in agony, and hard rock playing, with violins in the background. “Awakening” …he is disoriented and confused. It’s a harrowing probe into the mind of Steven. “Escape” closes things with brilliance and clarity as he gets back to the stage where his life can continue as it was before he was lost. The music is rock and roll…and joy has returned to his face. What a finish ! It’s better than I had remembered it. I haven’t heard it much in years, but I get it more now than when I was a teenager. Funny how this looking back can change the way you feel …about a lot of things.
@@richardbooth6063 Great write-up Richard. I have this on my list as well. I'm a sucker for concept albums and this one is no exception. I agree that "Only Women Bleed" doesn't really fit in with the narrative of this record. However I think it's a great stand-alone Alice Cooper song.
Interesting story writing, Richard. I have some earlier Cooper albums (with the band), but I'm really interested getting this one, after all these years. It really seems worth having it.
Excellent choice. Bachman Turner Overdrive is one of top bands all time!!! Love Uriah Heep as well. Favourite track by them is still Gypsy after all these decades
Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel Could also go with the album Pieces of the sky, also from 1975. She gave country music new energy and a new audience. Her version of Here, there and everywhere is one of the best Beatles covers ever.
11. Rush - Caress Of Steel Just as strong as Fly By Night, IMO. The Necromancer and The Fountain Of Lamneth are excellent prog epics! They would perfect the side long piece on their next album, but what they did here was impressive.
21. Neil Young - Tonight's The Night Talk about being universally loved across the board. I'm not sure that the response at the time was quite so unanimous. After the huge mainstream success of his fourth album, Harvest (1972), he released a series of sloppy, harrowing daymares (Time Fades Away and On the Beach) and the nightmare that is Tonight's the Night. Decades later, no one's whinging for Harvest II anymore (partly because he served that up dutifully with Harvest Moon in '92), and now accept his downer rock in all it's ragged heaviosity. Singer-Songwriter, Country Rock, Folk Rock, Blues Rock | RYM #9 | Acclaimed #6 | AOTY #6 22. Roxy Music - Siren 23. Scorpions - In Trance 24. Crack The Sky - Crack The Sky 25. Joni Mitchell - The Hissing Of Summer Lawns 26. Fela Ransome Kuti & Africa 70 - Expensive Shit 27. Heart - Dreamboat Annie 28. Good Rats - Ratcity in Blue 29. Angel - Angel 30. Alice Cooper - Welcome To My Nightmare 31. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Tomorrow Belongs To Me
Grobschnitt - Jumbo (english version, Germany 1975) with the wonderful song "The Excursion of Father Smith" - "This is a sunny day, this is a lovely way, leave dusty streets behind, look nature is so kind ... "
My choice today is the fifth release, 'Mother Focus', by the Dutch band Focus. Hard to follow up such a great album as 'The Hamburger Concerto' from the previous year, but they did a pretty good job here, going in a slightly more jazzy direction. The title track is great, as are tracks like 'Bennie Helder' and 'Soft Vanilla'. 1. Ambrosia - Ambrosia 2. Barclay James Harvest - Time Honoured Ghosts 3. Be-Bop Deluxe - Futurama 4. Camel - The Snow Goose 5. Caravan - Cunning Stunts 6. Clannad - Clannad 2 7. The Doobie Brothers - Stampede 8. Eagles - One of These Nights 9. Electric Light Orchestra - Face the Music 10. Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac 11. Focus - Mother Focuseh
11. Budgie - Bandolier 10. 10cc - The Original Soundtrack 09. Gentle Giant - Free Hand 08. Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time 07. Camel - Music Inspired by the Snow Goose 06. The Marshall Tucker Band - Searchin’ for a Rainbow 05. Outlaws - The Outlaws 04. Renaissance - Scheherazade & Other Stories 03. Cherry Five - Cherry Five 02. Premiata Forneria Marconi - Chocolate Kings 01. Asleep at the Wheel - Texas Gold
My Day 11 Pick: Weather Report - Tale Spinnin' The excellent fifth album from the band that turned me on to jazz fusion a little over 22 years ago, when I was in college!
Day 11 #21 - Grover Washington Jr’s MISTER MAGIC. Traditional Jazz, mixed with what would arguably be considered “Smooth Jazz”. Side two - tough to beat: the title track and BLACK FROST.
Hi Melanie. Extremely excellent choice!!! Im getting your posts with no problems. I'm inconsistent in my picks as somebody decided to share the flu with me lol.
11) Jethro Tull - Minstrel In The Gallery
Minstrel In The Gallery may be Jethro Tull's best album.
1) Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver
2) Emmylou Harris - Elite Hotel
3) Black Oak Arkansas - Ain't Life Grand
4) Bob Seger - Beautiful Loser
5) ZZ Top - Fandango!
6) Eagles - One Of These Nights
7) Linda Ronstadt - Prisoner In Disguise
8) Neil Young - Zuma
9) Bob Marley & The Wailers - Live!
10) Strawbs - Ghosts
11) Jethro Tull - Minstrel In The Gallery
Hi Chris, I had this one earlier as you may recall and, while it's not my personal favourite of theirs, it's certainly top 5... and there's more to come thus year, clearly, even if JT is more like IA solo these days...
Hey Chris. Except for Aqualung which I loved immediatly. Jethro Tull's music has to grow on me. That's what "Minstrel in the Gallery" is doing with me now. It did make my list already though a few days ago.
Excellent choice and article. I love the song, "One White Duck".
Just an incredible band all the way around CC
Informative write up Chris. Yes, I think your on to something there with Tull just being themselves blending a range of styles.
Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic
There are some outstanding songs on this one. No More No More may be my favorite.
//Scorpions - In Trance
//Rush - Fly By Night
//Budgie - Bandolier
//Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
//Styx - Equinox
//MTB - Searchin' For A Rainbow
//Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy

Good one through and through
Good pick Al I had that myself

1975 was the year of Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery. Brilliant album with the 16-minute plus Baker Street Muse epic. Great year for music. But this is the one that I continually listen.
Great album
Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac (# 8)
Career redefining album for the British American blues-folk-pop rock band.
We are on the same page today, Guard.
Excellent pick, Guard. This one is also on my list. Coming up soon.

@@howardmackenzie4365 Great choice Howard. One of my all time favourite albums.
Hi Jerry. Excellent pick and write up. This one is also on my list. Coming up soon.
Great write-up! Band had experience with members coming and going but I'm still amazed at how this ensemble locked in so well so quickly.
Hi Jerry. Fantastic pick and write up.
Wonderful album. And you know what? Even the alternate version of the album that came out in a box set a few years back is terrific:)
Three incredible voices.
Sir Paul rules!
Excellent pick Dave. Not quite Band On The Run, but one of Paul's best nonetheless. Lennon could definitely be a little tough on his former partner's solo work.

Great choice there, one for later in the month.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Nuthin' Fancy
3rd album, new drumster,
Artimus Pyle, what a name.
With their all-timer Saturday Night Special exploding at needle drop,
They matured into top-notch form.
Neat. 🎉

Day 11 Still Crazy After All These Years by Paul Simon CBS records. Paul sings here about different subjects including reminiscing about old times on the title track.
NAZARETH "Hair Of The Dog" (Mooncrest)
Their 6th and, arguably, best album, it's certainly their most successful, largely due to the success of their cover of The Everly Bros.' Love Hurts, but also, hopefully, because of the crunching title track, the epic and magnificent Please Don't Judas Me, not to mention Miss Misery and Whiskey Drinking Woman, as well as the other covers, Randy Newman's Guilty and Crazy Horse's Beggars Day.
The band's 70s output was staggeringly consistent, and this one possibly tops the lot, although I could probably make arguments for nearly half of them!
Dan's vocals on Miss Misery cut like a knife, as on most songs by them! I pick Changing Times as my fave.
Hope the weekend's going great, Sir Iain

DAY 11 - RAINBOW- RItchie Blackmores Rainbow stay tuned for article
Hi friends.

Super pick
saw them about a year later with Paul Rodgers, and though a lot of the original members were no longer onboard, he was still in great voice.

My pick today is Toys in the Attic - Aerosmith
Excellent choice. Coming up later this month.
A Night at The Opera - Queen. Fantastic album. Majestic work
LYNYRD SKYNYRD NUTHIN FANCY.
Agreed on voice!!!

ALIVE! - KISS
The album which inspired me to pick up a pair of sticks many years back. Much respect to the Catman.
# 21 Manfred Mann’s Earth Band: Nightingales and Bombers
Perhaps the most underrated record in MMEB’s impressive discography as it is the last one before Chris Thompson was hired as a vocalist.

Hello Pete and everyone. My choice for today was the only studio album released by this version of a legendary rock band:
Deep Purple - Come Taste The Band
The arrival of Tommy Bolin seemed to give the whole band renewed impetus, and they delivered a consistently strong album with some excellent vocal performances from Coverdale and Hughes. My favourite songs are Comin’ Home, Gettin’ Tighter, Drifter and You Keep On Moving, plus the instrumental Owed To ‘G’. Sadly, Tommy’s tragic early death robbed us of one of the most gifted and versatile guitarists of his era.
Nos. 11-30 (not ranked)
Roxy Music - Siren
Kansas - Song For America
Foghat - Fool For The City
Little Feat - The Last Record Album
Wings - Venus And Mars
Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
Nils Lofgren - self titled

Hello Bryan. Deep Purple! I've dabbled! 😅 not in any depth though. l do have the album 30:Best of Deep Purple album which does include You Keep On Moving. @@keithjones6023 Thanks Keith. I remember you saying before that you like Deep Purple’s early material. I’m very much the opposite with their music - I don’t know their Mk 1 albums very well but their classic period during the 70s was excellent.

Often overshadowed by it's early live predecessor, this is still a really strong double live effort.

First album I ever bought from this band, I was hooked right away
Missed out on the last few days- work taking its toll
Day 9 Rush. Thankfully despite its awfulness it isn't enough to derail the album, which is a testament to the strength of the rest of the tracks given their vaulting superiority over the debut album
Day 10- Jethro Tull- Minstrel in the Gallery. Always going to feature but may as well include now as just recently caught up on the JT epic tracks episode. Not my favourite JT album, but certainly up there and superior to most albums that made the short list for this year. We all know its virtues
Day 11- Renaissance- Scheherezade and other stories.
Hi Pete. Good pick in Hawkwind. Here is my pick for day 11.

Day 11. The album marked the final appearance of original Styx guitarist John Curulewski who left the band to spend time with his family.[5] Tommy Shaw replaced him.
Although Equinox stalled at number 58, it was certified Gold in 1977 shortly before the release of The Grand Illusion (1977).

Elton John Captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboy
One of those albums that really grew on me through the years and I really like it a lot
The songwriting is amazing between how Bernie and Elton got together and it's like almost an autobiographical thing the way the songs come about of them up to the point of their songwriting and relationship to then
The big monster hit a course to this day is still someone saved My Life Tonight. That someone that did save them it is a true story it was the late great long John baldry. You have to Google this behind the stories about it cuz it's a very complicated
I like the country rock beginning of the title track
Some of my all-time favorite Elton John songs of course the band really comes to play in this one too I mean between Nigel Dee Davy that was still really all together.
Tower of Babel fantastic song
Tell me when the whistle blows that awesome string arrangement when he brought in the great Gene Paige from the Barry White love orchestra. Gene page of course would would also lend his string arrangement ability and other great ones particularly one of my favorites Jefferson starship sultry love to good from the Earth album.
Got to get a meal ticket another rollicking classic Elton 70 style song
And then we get to the end
The beautiful we All Fall In Love sometimes
And then what people have actually when I've brought it up have agreed which surprised me we have Elton John's Hey Jude
The song called curtains
One listened and if you know about song structure you can see this is his Hey Jude it builds up the same way it repeats the same way right to the end with the Lum Dum Dee day and the oohhh ohh ohhhh
Which is basically na na nananana hey jude
Add a course to awesome comic book style cover of it which is really awesome.

Jethro Tull is another band that i only got into for real during the Covid19 era, though i had heard Aqualung in my teen years in the 70s.

#21 Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare
Sometimes I have to review an album over and over; and I get it at the last minute.
Love this album Richard, been an AC fan for as long as I can remember
@@richardbooth6063 Great write-up Richard. I have this on my list as well. I'm a sucker for concept albums and this one is no exception. I agree that "Only Women Bleed" doesn't really fit in with the narrative of this record. However I think it's a great stand-alone Alice Cooper song.

21. Neil Young - Tonight's The Night
Talk about being universally loved across the board.

Great pick Bengal. I got to see them on tour for this album. They were amazing.
Grobschnitt - Jumbo (english version, Germany 1975) with the wonderful song "The Excursion of Father Smith" - "This is a sunny day, this is a lovely way, leave dusty streets behind, look nature is so kind ... "
Today's pick: Steely Dan - Katy Lied
My choice today is the fifth release, 'Mother Focus', by the Dutch band Focus. Hard to follow up such a great album as 'The Hamburger Concerto' from the previous year, but they did a pretty good job here, going in a slightly more jazzy direction. The title track is great, as are tracks like 'Bennie Helder' and 'Soft Vanilla'.

Great pick. Later on my list.
My Day 11 Pick:
Weather Report - Tale Spinnin'
The excellent fifth album from the band that turned me on to jazz fusion a little over 22 years ago, when I was in college!
#21: Journey- Self titled debut
My pick for today is, Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy.
