It's possible that Thor just thought Banner could get seriously hurt or killed if he is in human form (and he is about to go against someone that kicked his and Loki's ass). Likely he does not know fully how the transformation process works.

Well for one we all know as well as thor that banner turns into the hulk when he is stressed or angry or in a near death situation so when banner says he will come to asgard to fight the goddess of death he will more than likely face something that causes him to transform

This would've been great in the film, not only does it solidify Bruce and Thor's friendship but also would've given some context to Professor Hulk.
I do agree. Granted I feel the idea of Hulk and Banner slowly becoming more alike and coming together is already there across the films but this solidifies it further.

1:01 what Banner feels, Hulk feels it in greater extent.. Hulk agrees with Banner at the same time because Hulk is happy to hear Banner saying he will help Thor which means Banner wants to turn into hulk. Also, Hulk has already become very close to Thor.. Poor Bruce has no other way to get back to earth from Sakaar because Thor is ready to leave.. what a sad life Bruce/Hulk, he needs love 💟
Oh, yea. I 100% believe that the "no Banner, only Hulk and No Hulk, only Banner" is complete denial and self-hatred. Banner and Hulk feel the same about a lot of things... almost like... they are the same person?!?! I think the "seperate personalities" thing is more so for a dramatic tool and the character's own denial. Professor Hulk could have been from the start but he was getting in his own way. They're the same person. Two sides of a whole.

It’s a shame Hulk’s stories are forever locked in Universal limbo. His character development was super interesting, the mental tug of war, the struggle for control, the eventual harmonization, Edward Norton was onto something wanting to give Hulk’s character more depth than just a raging monster.

The issue is people unironically trying to find LGBTQ+ themes here when there really isn't. I know that for certain because Thor and Banner are straight. Valkyrie is the only LGBTQ+ member of the main cast in this movie. Loki is considered gender-fluid in the comics because of his shapeshifting but doesn't have any romantic interest. (He might be bi-sexual at most.) Korg is gay, but not apart of the main cast. None of this matters though, as even if they were gay, there's nothing in this scene that shows them anymore than good friends.

I actually really like this. Banner doesn't get much screen time and this feels natural after turning back into banner. Honestly wouldn't mind seeing them just messing around in the city.

Banner and Dr. Strange have more chemistry than Thor and Banner did, and they didn’t even talk that much in the next movie!
They kinda messed up Bruce and Hulk's relationships with the other Avengers.
I would have loved to see Hulk be best friends with Hawkeye, y'know, because the strongest one and the weakest one being best bros it's fun, but they don't even talk with each other in the movies. Bruce doesn't talk that much with Steve, and Hulk at least respects him enough to follow his orders. Hulk saved Iron Man's ass and that's it. Everyone knows how the Natasha thing ended. Hulk was more of a friend to Thor than Bruce. And that's it.

honestly like this being the reason they dont have hulk vs what was in the film. It kind of foreshadows infinity war and how he can't summon the hulk then either. But also I like the idea of banner coming to finally rely on hulk and for once he just isn't able to be reached; compared to just "if i turn into him again I might not change back" because that never seems to come up again in any of the following movies? He turns into the hulk and this is never a point of concern or anything...the movie just ends.
I personally buy into the fact that Banner lost control of the hulk from Ragnarok - Infinity War. But you're absolutely right, there is a contradiction. My thoughts are that he transformed back into the hulk, knowing he wouldn't be able to rever back, in order to help out Thor and the asgardians. Banner put his own well being on the line to save others. After the whole battle sequence, he's still in hulk mode even though the battle was over, which makes me think Banner was right. He had lost control by that point. I think the only reason he reverted back to Banner was because Thanos kicked the Hulk's ass, and the rest is history. If Thanos hadn't beaten the hulk, Banner might have been hulk forever after Ragnarok.
@@ianhampton3568 Yeah i got all that too, but my point is more that the movie never takes a moment to highlight this. It almost throws the line out there because they need to explain why they aren't making him hulk out until the final fight. The movie never takes any time to let banner (or even hulk!) react to the fact that he's giving up being banner to fight alongside his friends and save asgard...he just does it without hesitation or even a response beyond what comes across as a sort of "here we go again" vibe he has whenever he has to turn into hulk.
And like you said he's still the hulk at the end of the movie, but the way it's framed is more like "look! everyone is here! We saved the day!!!" and not "Wow, a character sacrificed his humanity to save everyone" that I think would have been a pretty cool look into banner's character.
And in infinity war, thanos beats up the hulk and he disappears, yes, but again its almost as if he was just coming to after another fight with someone. He doesn't react as if he never expected to be banner again. Banner straight up acts as if nothing weird happened between him and hulk and is confused as to why he suddenly can't summon hulk to fight anymore. But in ragnarok he points out that being hulk for two years straight messed something up in his biology and things were going to be really weird now.
and we the fans can absolutely speculate that all of this stuff was probably going through his head...but from a storyteller's perspective it seems like a waste NOT to explore that within your story if it gives your actors a chance to flesh out their characters more? Subtext and meta-analysis are fun and all, but just hand waving all the character building and leaving everything up to interpretation feels either very lazy, or too chaotic for me to just be cool with encouraging it.
idk, i think you're right, the line they use in the movie works fine...I guess I just personally feel like this one connects everything a little better, while also requiring almost no change to the overall plot.
