I'm singing this in my college choir and the "Shouldst thou walking in grief" makes me want to dwell in the world of c# minor for all eternity.

I also love the modulation back to D Major. Sublime.

This is superlative singing. All head voice, ringing and resonant and such a wonderfully expressive performance. How so many in the world do not get what the true art of singing is. Just terrific. Kudos to all involved.

+mad trollie The kind that is really a baritone and shouldn't be singing all those F Sharps? ;) It's a beautiful piece though.

+Aaron Robinson agree, why don't they leave certain parts, to T1's, it's both our job, and our joy

I think I come back to this piece so many times because of the tenor part. It was truly sublime. Sang it while in Uni some 20+ ago and still love to listen to and try to sing my part, whenever I can. :)

@@lorin80 Sang this in 2000 Christmas concert with a local choir. I totally fell in love with the tenor part (I'm T2). To this day I do the same when I hear it performed, automatically following the tenor line with my voice (at least in my head).

Everything about this performance is gorgeous. It's such a joy to hear the entirety of the soprano section hit that opening section without a single forced high note - light and clear as a bell and seemingly effortless.

Very fine rendition. One of the best I've heard on RUclips Thank you for featuring an orchestra. With all due respect to piano versions, they cannot compare to the sound of a full orchestra in this piece.

Some of the best conducting I've ever seen. Not a single spurious or vague movement. A super example of purposeful, communicative direction. Well done!!

When I sang this with Robert Shaw he said," I will personally throttle anyone who sings SLUMBERS SNOT!). He meant it.

Does anyone have the complete oratorio "Elijah?" I had it,but misplaced the second half and am hoping someone out there can help me get another complete version. I sang it countless times in my singing career, starting in high school and retiring in 1995 .I am 80 years now.

Recording quality is superior. Performance is really, really, good. Would have loved a bit more low end (mixing?) - personal preference. And sorry, one little comment... Tenors? Hope this recording serves as excellent motivation for you.

Not bad,but still not as good as the Tabernacle Choir,It may be a case of comparing apples to oranges but the trebles are a bit harsh in certain places and do not achieve the same effect as the sopranos on the Tabernacle Choir ,which I suppose should be expected ',After all,its the Tabernacle Choir.

  • @karenelliott2159

Meh. Altos sound like sopranos. The "languish" section is without passion. the whole thing is a bit too fast.
