    I switched to BBF years ago and have never gone back. And there are easy work-arounds for any disabled settings. Thanks for posting this...our tiny (but fierce) tribe appreciates it!

    Soooo happy to find a Pentax user who knows the camera so well! Thanks for all the good info. I've been shooting with pentax for years and have had so many questions and no one to help. Thank you!

    Funny detail on my gear. I have 3 bodies currently, K-m, K-r and K-50. The simple and humble K-m has a dedicated back button focus!

      Yes, but it doesn't have a separate AE-L button, you have to choose one or the other. I believe every Pentax DSLR has a button you can designate to be an AF button, even going back to the OK button on the DS. DS2, K200D, which was a very good location for it, easy to locate, giving you both the AF and AE-L buttons. Many also had/ have both designated rear AF and AE-L.

    on the K3... After focus locks on and is confirmed, the six sided icon in the view finder disappears as soon as you release the back button.... this is annoying and should be fixed by Ricoh.
    The confirmation icon should remain visible until the back button is pressed again... no?

    • @KobieMC

      That's normal behaviour on any camera. When you release the button, the AF system is no longer active so there is no focus point. It would be the same as letting off the shutter button while focusing. The button has to be pressed for the AF system to be activated.

    Thanks for the informative video. It's great to see more channels about Pentax. I live in the GTA "Toronto" area and am so disappointed that no stores have new Pentax gear. Question for you. I have the K50 and looking to upgrade, in your opinion would you go for the k70 or KP. I'm not a pro, shoot just for fun. Thanks

      Woohoo!!! I'm a GTA person too! Grew up in Thornhill at Bathurst & Steeles. Hmmm, KP or K-70. That's a tough one. The KP has a tilt screen, the K-70 has a full flip out screen. The KP has a better built body (magnesium vs Plastic composite). The KP has the same focus points as the K-3 (27 with 25 being sensitive cross type) the K-70 has the same focus points as the K-50 (11 with 9 of those being cross type). I personally would go for the KP if I wasn't doing video or selfie shooting since the KP is the newer camera. I know what you mean, Henry's doesn't stock any Pentax, but see if either Downtown Camera or Aden Camera might still stock some Pentax.

      @@KobieMC thank Kobie, Henry's has a used K70 for 500 and KP for 900 but they would only give me 75 for my K50 with kit lens. I think I'll wait until the fall to see if prices drop a little. For now happy with my K50. Would you by a used camera body? Have a great week from Mississauga.

      @@lucadinicola9515 I would and have bought used bodies. Actually all my bodies were used. I wouldn't do a used K-70 though since it uses the same aperture solenoid as the K-30/50 which is hit and miss for the aperture block failure issue.

    Catch-in focus and the other settings on my KS2 still work with back button focusing. It certainly only works when I keep the back button pressed but that to me is the point of the dedicated button.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  4 года назад

      Interesting. It doesn't work on my K-30 or K-3, or my friends K-3II. If we hold the back button down, you can shoot an image regardless if it's in focus or not. It just won't wait until it's actually in focus. Only using the shutter button allows it to confirm focus before releasing.
      I'll do some more testing and see if maybe I missed something.

      How to turn off shutter button autofocus? Is this method works only in LV?

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  4 года назад

      @@ketstian To turn off shutter button focus, you have to go into "button customization". It works for both using the viewfinder and live view.

      @@KobieMC In custom menu I have AF.S set to focus-priority. Same with 1st frame action in AF.C. I guess this is important for catch-in focus to work with back button focusing.

    I don't think it's that way at all. The shutter button has additional sensors built in to it to recognise a half press, the other buttons may not. I don't think it is based on the assumption that you should be good enough.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  11 месяцев назад

      Which is what I said. There are certain focus options that are tied specifically to the shutter button. And I never came out and said anything about someone being good enough. What I said was an explanation regarding WHY Pentax would disable focus priority and 1st frame action in AF.C for back button focus. I did not say that anyone's skills are or aren't good enough. I can see how you may have taken what I said and thought that way, but that's not what I was actually saying. I even said something around the lines of "well, that's the only thing I can think of as to why they did that".

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  Год назад

      Of you're bot used to back button focus, it can seem a bit confusing at first and there is a slight learning curve. But once you've used it for a while and are comfortable with it, you won't go back to the shutter button focus.
