Although the ukuleles for sale out there aren't necessarily getting much better, your reviews keep getting better.
Your honesty is a virtue almost missing from the world today.
I think anyone who buys an ukulele from Amazon is a fool (Well, not you Baz, how else could you get these things?)
I Don't like Amazon anyway. I think the wrong Amazon is burning.

I don't know about this specific ukulele, but I have a Hricane koa wood ukulele with an open headstock. 100% of the blind sound tests I have done with musicians, uke players and non-musicans have preferred the laminate koa wood Hricane to my Martin koa wood concert which is 5 times more expensive. I have found that very surprising, but trusting this feedback I am now going to be doing all my performances and tutorials with the Hricane. I put Worth clear strings on both the instruments for the comparison.

My issue here is more about the quality control failings than anything else. The sound I could live with. As with any review I write, when it comes to quality control, you 'might' get an ok one. But then again you might not. A lot of it is fixable, but of course, if you are buying from Amazon, you are not going to get a setup by the seller.

I just got my gloss Concert Hricane solid top today. Was shocked at how nice it was in person but thought the action a bit high. I was able sand down the bridge a good 1 mm and improved action greatly. What surprised me was how perfect the intonation was! The notes stayed basically exactly the same at the 12th fret when many of my other ukes start to go sharp. I liked the strap more than expected. Now I want a strap on some others. Love your channel and your website! I spent hours reading it just today!

Bear in mind I always review ukes 'as is' - I have no doubt that many of them can be improved with work, but my audience includes absolute beginners / parents of kids - who may have never seen an instrument before and unlikely to want to start dealing with setups.

I got a Hricane uk-21, the soprano, as my first uke and I would say that the only problem for me is the sharp frets.. which I will fix one day. the action is low, so very playable. After that I got a Kala soprano (because it's popular) but the action is so high! anyway, love your reviews 😃

The funny thing is I started to sub to youtuber who plays the ukulele who happens to play the hricane uke.. and I go searching google for a review on this instrument brand and yours was the first hit i got without looking it was your channel! funny right? I totally agree about the name, its disturbing my head constantly.

Im a guitar player and I have no intention to buy an uke anytime soon tbh but I watch your videos purely for entertainments sake really like quite a few things about your channel.
That you always play the same samples wich helps comparing instruments so much mpre then noodeling 40 diffrent tunes for 40 instruments
Love the dry humor and the delivery. Your honesty when something isnt worth its money wich is so refreshing when almost every "reviewer" getting everything shoved in their bum and giving crap a high approval like "the incredible first smart uke that will blow your mind omg i love this" guitar channels are just as bad btw
Im reall low on money right now but i seriously considered contributing because thats what i want honest reviews somethin a review should always be.
Ps: Also I really share the standpoint that ukes arent some dumbed down guitars so few guitarists get that ☺️

Good review. :) it sounded like it was going out of tune as you played.

Yes, Lohanu customer service told me they would send me the tools to fix the frets or I could by the proper file and they would reimburse me. Keep in mind this was a brand new ukulele.
I know it probably isn’t a terribly hard job to do... but that’s not the point.
I also had a loose tuning peg that wouldn’t tighten anymore but caused buzzing. After I told them it wasn’t fixed they suggested that a little buzzing is normal for ukuleles.
      Last Lohanu I will try.

Sounds horrible. You find hundreds of these generics on Amazon. At this price point I would highly recommend a Flight TUS50 or the Enya EUC series. You reviewed in the Flight in the past, and you loved it. I do as well. It's great to get some lemon reviews. Just goes to show you what quality ukes sound like when you review them. Thanks GOT A UKULELE and point out many things we need to do it better.
We will make it better. About the frets, it is the production batch problem. Regarding the product description, this does not represent Hricane itself. This is the issue of the way the Amazon salesperson’s personal marketing strategy. CME is not a letter, just a ukulele shape looking. Why name Hricane cause in Chinese pronunciation is 海莉可. Don't think of hurricane. Last, UKE-23 is our beginner level ukulele, we got many other model better than this model.

Talking of which, if you were going to buy an entry level to mid-range Baritone Uke, is there one that stands out for you? I have been looking around, having a listen and quite like the sound of the Kala KAB. Deep rich jazzy tone. Sound is what counts for me in the main rather than looks. Thanks again Baz! I can't remember if I mentioned this to you at the time but I bought the Eden Tenor you did a review on a while ago from 'World Of Ukes' What a lovely man Matt is! The Tenor came with strings that I didn't like (they weren't Worth Browns). They were extremely taught. I know you men like those but for us women with softer fingers, it felt like I was putting my fingers on a knife edge. So I changed them to D'Addario Fluorocarbon strings. the same lacking quality control exists on there 2 overly hyped thinline tenors as well (super high action and setup needed). they have also been aggressive on social media, mostly instagram, to have international players with high follower counts feature their ukuleles (and given free ukuleles for it). a practise similar to persuaded positive reviews on amazon. they are generic and better can be had for a little more money IMO.
