Excellent video. For someone like me who is planning on building an observatory with a Losmandy Titan as the primary mount this information is priceless. I already have Stellarium on my laptop but seeing the interface between the Gemini II system and Stellarium was really helpful. Scott
yeah, I searched everywhere for information on how to do it and came up empty handed! so I had to figure out how to do it myself. I decided to post a video of how to do it to save people the frustration that I had looking for help doing it!
I installed Losmandy's extension so I do not have to do the meridian flip. Much easier, and if it get to low or the cables start getting tight, well I just wait for another night!
I was looking for "configuration" information as per your title. But your video is really about usage. You have it pre-configured. Can you share notes on how you have Stellarium configured for the Losmandy, please?
ask me what you need to know. align you telescope to a know star before you start. start stellarium, and go to the configuration on the left pullout, in that window go to pluggins, and then telescope control. name or select you mount there or select config.
@@MrMetalhead0124 : Thanks for the quick reply. What I mean is... can you tell me what your specific telescope config is. Go To Config, Telescope Control, configure, then choose your Losmandy profile, and hit Configure. What are you settings here? Do you have Telescope Controlled By set to Stellarium, directly...? In Device settings, do you have Serial Port set? In Device Model, is it Losmandy G-11? Any other settings in the telescope profile? Thank you!
@@blakenancarrow5239 I have a Losmandy G-11 and the Gemini 2 Go To system. It will not work with the original drive computer. The Gemini 2 has a port where you can control the mount from a separate laptop computer. hope this helps!
@@MrMetalhead0124 : I'm confused. You have a G-11. It uses the Gemini 2. That has a USB plug. You a USB cable plugged into your laptop. In Stellarium, you connect and slew. The Gemini 2 receives that command from Stellarium and the mount moves. Can you take a screen snapshot of the Losmandy telescope profile in Stellarium please?
How big is your Newtonian? I have a 10" f/5 Parks OTA with rotating rings on a 8.75" Buyers geared Schaefer mount. Instead of trying to retrofit my mount with stepper motors which would still only give me limited GOTO as Schaefers have tangent arm DEC's, I'm checking out options for a whole new mount. How much weight would you say is your mount supporting .. and how stable is it on your G11? Thanks and thanks for the vid.
the telescope with everything on it weighs 48 lbs. and the counter weights approximately the same. the mount is very stable, but I have to let it settle down for about five minutes after touching it as it is mounted on a 12' x 6" aluminum tube. my telescope is a 1969 Cave Astrola 10" reflector. it takes amazing pictures, and I was real lucky on finding it! I do not take pictures when it is windy out. I would recommend a Losmandy titan or at the least a g-11 with the titan drive unit if you are trying to keep it in budget. regardless you will not be disappointed with the performance. hope this answered your questions, if not drop a line.
Sorry M8, should have addressed that. Time stamp 5:57 shows the configuration already setup. Could not find any videos regarding the setup but was able to figure out via trial-error.
@@RJ-cu4cj when I made this video there was nothing on the entire web on how to do it! there were videos of people who were guiding with Stellarium and it drove me crazy trying to figure out how they were doing it! so what you see in this video is what I figured out on my own through trial and error and hours of frustration! I built my own guide scope mount, along with other pieces on the telescope and I am a self taught amateur astronomer, and I am proud of the pictures that I have captured!
I've never tried to control my Gemini 2 with my laptop, so I followed your instructions faithfully up to the point where I am connected to the telescope. I do not get a second cross on my originally selected star (Regulus), and when I try to go to a selected object, following instructions, nothing happens. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?
number one, align the telescope to a known object before you turn on Stellarium. two, do you have the laptop plugged in right. three, is the cable plugged into your Gemini 2 at the right port. four, did you choose the same star in Stellarium and then begin connecting it to your Gemini 2 system. five, is your laptop compatible with Gemini 2. hope this helps, there was not info on how to do this out there. but let me know and I will try to assist you as much as I can!
Hi Thomas. I've finally figured out why my G2 wouldn't connect. Since you were using a G11 mount, I figured that I could configure my MI-250 mount, which also uses the Gemini 2 mount controller, using the G11 setting. WRONG. I finally set it up using the LX 200 setting, and everything worked beautifully. Just thought I'd let you know in case others ran into the same problem. Thanks for the video and your reply.Rick
Dont know if anyone gives a shit but if you are bored like me atm you can watch all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last weeks :)

I had a Gem 2 for a few years. I thought the software was good, in particular the way it dealt with so called 'meridian limits'.
I installed Losmandy's extension so I do not have to do the meridian flip. Much easier, and if it get to low or the cables start getting tight, well I just wait for another night!

now when it comes to setting up the star guider, PHD, that is very different and I would suggest watching a few videos on You tube.

Hi what do I do if in plug-ins my configure telescope is grayed our. Thx
sorry, I do not understand your question. can you explain what you mean by grayed out. maybe than I can help you.
thomas marabillas yes I figured it out I had to hold down on the telescope icon. Thx!!!

Disappointed. You blew right through the configuration setting and used your preset setting. Would have been nice to show that.
configuration on what? PHD? or What needs to be done on the computer?
