Live Tonight on Millennium Stage: Pokey LaFarge returns with In The Blossom of Their Shade, out now via New West Records. The 10-song set was produced and arranged by Pokey LaFarge and Chris Seefried, and recorded in both Chicago, IL and Los Angeles, CA. The collection is the follow up to LaFarge’s critically acclaimed 2020 studio LP Rock Bottom Rhapsody which NPR’s Fresh Air named a “Best of 2020” and an “Album that made an art of escapism.”
In March 2020, LaFarge packed up and left his Los Angeles abode behind, putting his belongings in storage in anticipation of spending extensive time on the road in support of his then-forthcoming album, Rock Bottom Rhapsody. He couldn’t wait to head down to Austin a few weeks later to showcase those songs and launch the album with his band at SXSW. Then the pandemic hit and all of LaFarge’s plans went into thin air.
Stuck in East Austin with nowhere to go, LaFarge did what he does best: he got to work. He used the sudden change in plans to his advantage, having perhaps his greatest period of personal growth in the midst of the crippling pandemic.
LaFarge offered, “This album is a result of my 2020 experience. Before the pandemic, I was in a dark place, but the pandemic actually created the much-needed space for me to reflect. Turns out that being completely sedentary for once was a good thing. I found peace in the stillness. I was able to recalibrate what it is I do and why I’m doing it. Who I’m to do it with, and most importantly, who I’m doing it for.”
Unlike its melancholy predecessor, In The Blossom of Their Shade showcases the positivity of coming out of the darkness and into the light and is one of his strongest and most mature lyrical efforts to date. The record was nearly titled Siesta Love since it captures the thematic notion of being the perfect summer afternoon soundtrack and is a far cry from the swing and blues-infused songs of his earlier work. Inspired by the deep soul not just from these shores, but from distant geographical places like Africa or South America, LaFarge set out to create a body of work that paired emotional lyrics with a killer groove and grabby melodies. - Развлечения
I fell in love with Pokeys music in 2010, & what an evolution he has gone through man. his sound back than was tight & like nothin else but he just got better & better. Hearing Pokey live is mesmerizing & beautiful. when he had his horns & those badass jams esp.. but When hes solo tho with just his guitar.. you become a witness to greatness
Pokey is the best live. What a show this band puts on! Such talent! He rocked a Friday night in beautiful Fall River. He kept saying "It's Friday night and we ain't stoppin'" and he never did stop. Must see fo sho.
Just saw this act in Columbus. The band is tight. Great performer. Makes you want to dance.
We REALLY wanted to see that show, but were out of town on that date. Glad to hear it was great!
I was there too. I only knew one song before the show but watching videos I knew it would be a great concert. Glad he came after 10 years.
Wonderful show. Thank you.
Saw him the night before in Woodstock NY great show
Levon Helms barn
Whats not to love about this man and his band! Such a great sound!
Can’t wait to see you in Leeds UK in late November. Tried to see you in Newcastle UK a couple of years ago but you cancelled at last minute. Fingers crossed this time
Saw Pokey twice in Melbourne Australia. He was with Megan then. I think Addie is an incredible addition to the lineup and I can’t wait to see them all together!🔥🔥👏🏻
Sounds great!
End november he will be in Paris at the fabulous Rex Club where all the big stars of jazz and country or blues played from 1946.....I wait for this from longtime 'cause Pokey Lafarge is one of my favourite... like Richard Crawley in England...!!!
Great remedy for troubling times
Regards from Monaco
Oh yes, got tickets for Pokey's Glasgow gig 21 November ........😃😃😃
👍yeah, that’s the good stuff
Thank you to his ancestors
I hope the coronet player / guitar player gets paid twice, because he rocks with both instruments.
he got the pop sound down,,,where is the south city three??? TJ and Chloe ???
What’s wrong with changing the lineup? Artists do it all the time.
@@wyganter nothing until you go the wrong direction,,,,pokey now is a pop musician
@@tomstiel7576 Were you mad when Dylan picked up an electric guitar?
@@wyganter no,,,,were you ?
South city three didn’t drink the kool aid. Unfortunately they are all driving Ubers now. Bill Monroe went through band members like socks. I miss those guys.
Where is the great clarinet player?
WTF Kennedy Center! Stop with the pride crap! I'm here for music!
Female vocal too prominent over powering on harmonies
Addie, blink twice if Pokey's holding you hostage. You are so out of his league, lol.
Um, they are married.
Her trying to upstage him is annoying.
I was Introduced to Pokey’s music a few months ago at a chance meeting with an old high school friend. I was detoxing from a prescription drug and his music got me through some tough nights. Where have I been for the past 15-20 years? Pokey is the man and may be in a league of his own. Made the trip to Torrey, Utah to catch him at a music festival. I hope the next time I see him, it’s with him as the headliner playing as long as he wants. Great sound, talent, and stage presence. Go Pokey!
@@eclectic801 His song and video for "Fuck Me Up" was a classic. First time I saw him, he apologized to the crowd for not ever wanting to play that song again. He simply said to us "I don't want to GET fucked up anymore" and the crowd gave him big time applause in support. Already loved the Man, but that gave me mad respect to kick one of his big hits to the curb along with his demons. I will never, and have never missed a tour since. Go Pokey indeed!!
I don't love it when male musicians get married and then bring their partner everywhere. Pokey sounds best by himself or harmonizing with other men. Same with Tim O'Brien. I understand how it's healthier for the marriage for both partners to be onstage and touring together, but this arrangement introduces a foreign element that doesn't quite work and saps the vitality of the music. It would be better if she got a solo or two than to be integrated into every song.
I don’t like Pokey with Yoko……
