    Nice that Katie takes such good care of you. The firebrick goes in the kiln at the steel mill. At least you got a load, even with the crappie roads and steel mill lots, and you didn't have to totally tarp that last load yourself. Hope your trip to deliver goes well, and that you get that load to within 100 miles of your house. God bless you. Pastor Dean, Christian Life Church, Kissimmee FL.

    LoL "can you imagine what it's like muddy" Why yes I can. I was born 5-6 miles from there. Even more fun in March, with a layer of ice over ankle deep mud.
    Republic Steel used to be the 22nd largest Steel company in the world, but after 1980's it got down sized massively. Where you went was one of the small outlier mills. The big mills were all torn down for scrap.

    Great video Dan.
    I was just thinking myself what that yard would be like in the winter, the potholes full of water or snow, it wouldn't be pretty. You can wreck your truck but you're not allowed up on the load to cover it. Something different for sure.
    There must be a lot of hardship with covers in the winter, wind and rain.

    That pipe yard is ancient,decades old and worn out it probably looked good back in 61. I wonder what company built that plant originally and what they produced? As for that tarping set up they've been sued huge they're not laying your tarps out because they like you.

    I hauled a few loads of those "Fire Bricks" outta Alabama and those suckers are heavy! It always amazes me that a place that does high volume and turns a nice profit , always has the worst yard to drive in. Looks like it's best to strap that load down before you pull off because you'll loose your load just driving in their lot... Lol. And that W9 you were parked next to was sweet😍. Safe travels Dan✌🏽

    A challenging couple of loads. I did appreciate seeing the tarp loader. You wonder why others don't do this---especially in the winter months. Of course, as you mentioned it needs to be done right to avoid damage to the truck! It seems wise to forego loads from these customers. I agree, the risk seems to great.

    I used a tarp machine for the first time last week, "HATED IT"
    The one that you have to climb a stairs while wearing a harness to go on top of the load
    It's soooooo much easier with the ones that just lift and drape the tarp on the load, this way you don't have to be on the load, and I'm sure those are way much cheaper

    I agree with getting an APU or Generator. I run a 4000w gas Predator with a stand alone AC floor unit. Yes I have to get gas about every 10hrs, but total investment between the generator and AC unit are under $1000, verses $10-11k for a APU unit. On average, I save, give or take, 2000hrs on the engine idling per year.

    Why in the US do you have strange axle setups? Tandems completely at the rear or spread axles on flatbeds. Surely this makes it awkward to pull a trailer and means you have to take wider turns and more tyre scrub

    • @jwpalmer24
      @jwpalmer24 4 года назад +2

      On this particular setup, the rear axle airbags dump, making the trailer pivot off the front axle, so its like driving a 38' trailer. And on a 10' spread, you can have 20,000lbs on each trailer axle, while a tandem you can only have 34,000lbs total. Oh and the trailers equipped with tandems, they are able to slide them forwards and backwards to adjust for the load.

    • @cecil4485
      @cecil4485 4 года назад

      @@jwpalmer24 I'm not sure why the UK and european trailers haven't been adopted with single wheel tri axles. In the UK our MGW is 44000kg/97000lbs. I'm sure it would make them much more manouvarble
