- The first place I Unload had some of the worst roads I've been on. The second place had a weird tarping machine.

They spent all their road maintenance money on that fancy flashing stop sign
My thoughts exactly :-)
Sure enough
Wow I've never had a dispatcher ask if I wanted to go home before you better keep that one
Nice that Katie takes such good care of you. The firebrick goes in the kiln at the steel mill. At least you got a load, even with the crappie roads and steel mill lots, and you didn't have to totally tarp that last load yourself. Hope your trip to deliver goes well, and that you get that load to within 100 miles of your house. God bless you. Pastor Dean, Christian Life Church, Kissimmee FL.
LoL "can you imagine what it's like muddy" Why yes I can. I was born 5-6 miles from there. Even more fun in March, with a layer of ice over ankle deep mud.
Republic Steel used to be the 22nd largest Steel company in the world, but after 1980's it got down sized massively. Where you went was one of the small outlier mills. The big mills were all torn down for scrap.
Excellent video. Very informative and well put together. Thanks for taking the time to put your videos up.
Molten steel hits wet firebrick in the ladel or pot, firebrick explodes badly. Needs to be dry.
That was quite the Elaborate set-up for side loading as well as mechanism for dropping the tarp.
Don't blame you for not wanting to go back. If ALL drivers did that, maybe they would fix up their yard.
thanks for showing the loading of the pipes, very good.
Great videos 👍 helped me get through being laid off and not driving
Who layed you off?
We all need more Katie's in our workplace.
This is one epic video. Starting with the approach at 5:06. Then getting loaded, to the sound of truly supernatural music: 6:58: Calling forth all the celestial forces, titanic in size and strength. Discussing prideful work 11:53. Always great to see you, Supertrucker Dan! A top favorite. You are a good soul.
Thanks Dan -- One of your more interesting videos. Enjoy seeing the interesting (bad) problems with shippers and receivers. Keep them coming. :>)
When they ripping up your equipment that isn't complaining, that's heavy justifiable concern.
I agree! We need to stop patronising those places that don't have any respect for the drivers or our equipment. I also agree with you on the APU.
I agree with all you said......I'm picky about my tarping as well......and hate those tarping machines/apparatuses......
Katie is a Super Employee of Mercer Transportation. Difficult finding Hard Working employees. 👍
Great video Dan.
I was just thinking myself what that yard would be like in the winter, the potholes full of water or snow, it wouldn't be pretty. You can wreck your truck but you're not allowed up on the load to cover it. Something different for sure.
There must be a lot of hardship with covers in the winter, wind and rain.
Stay safe Dan and keep the videos coming!
Hay Dan, Time to breakout the skateboard, that Petro has lots of room !!! Thanks for letting us ride along.
Good looking KW pulled in behind you when loading the pipe. Too bad that scale isn't more user friendly & roads aren't maintained, the loader is a 1 & done operation makes life easy, oh well - thanks for taking time to do the videos - be safe out there !!!
Hope the week goes well. Keep safe!
Hey Dan, glad you get to go home. As far as complaining I think we are all feeling the pressure of all that is going on around us. Thanks for sharing, really like watching.
That pipe yard is ancient, decades old and worn out it probably looked good back in 61. I wonder what company built that plant originally and what they produced? As for that tarping set up they've been sued huge they're not laying your tarps out because they like you.
Back in the 2000's drove for a company out of Dunkirk,NY Path truck lines...The child of the owner took over and started building those machines..He bankrupted the Company doing it..
My uncle built Martin drove for them also I have been in a lease 3 of their trucks .so that's what happen to path the kids put them out of business I didn't know that..thats Billy martin.
good video loading was fast with that machine
Thanks Dan. Another good one. Tarps look great. I don’t like potholes either. Lucky to have Katy. Stay safe.
I hauled a few loads of those "Fire Bricks" outta Alabama and those suckers are heavy! It always amazes me that a place that does high volume and turns a nice profit , always has the worst yard to drive in. Looks like it's best to strap that load down before you pull off because you'll loose your load just driving in their lot... Lol. And that W9 you were parked next to was sweet😍. Safe travels Dan✌🏽
Good talk man. Ive been watching you a long time. Im also a flatbedder. Worked for numerous companies. I think you said it best when you say you love people who take pride in their work. Im the same way. Sometimes its excusable to slack a little, but taking pride in ones work is the key to having a great attitude in what you do.
A challenging couple of loads. I did appreciate seeing the tarp loader. You wonder why others don't do this---especially in the winter months. Of course, as you mentioned it needs to be done right to avoid damage to the truck! It seems wise to forego loads from these customers. I agree, the risk seems to great.
Always nice seeing ya Dan... Have a nice home time when ya get it... In the mean time stay safe...
Yes, I agree the clearance mirrors looks better mounted on the hood you can see better back on the old vintage trucks they were called peep mirrors
Those side loaders are some big machines. That was at wheatland tube I’ve been there a many times.
Yah they’re a lot bigger than most of the places I go. Been to this wheatland tube once and I gotta say it was pretty nice having the tarring machine there. Didn’t have to crawl up on top of the slippery pipes or anything
Especially parked at Mercer you have plugins there!
We do have the best coordinater Mercer have to offer for sure 👍
I used a tarp machine for the first time last week, "HATED IT"
The one that you have to climb a stairs while wearing a harness to go on top of the load
It's soooooo much easier with the ones that just lift and drape the tarp on the load, this way you don't have to be on the load, and I'm sure those are way much cheaper
I'm sure enjoying your videos! You seem like you would be a really fantastic mentor!
Dan I'm surprised that the tarping machine didn't hit your stacks when you were driving underneath of it and Katie does an outstanding job for you and I didn't know that was a forklift I never saw one like before and you do put some excellent footage going to these places I guess it would get annoying hearing that truck run all three days in a row
I think the forklift is generically called a side shooter / side loader
You were right up the road from me at the end lol Everyone avoids the Youngstown area, it's not a nice place.
Looks like you loaded at wheat land tube in Youngstown. And if you will let the air out of that seat and set it flat on the floor you won’t thrown around and beat to death.
Wheatland tube is in Warren Ohio I am 1,of the inter plant trucks that run from Wheatland main plant in Wheatland p.a. to the Warren Ohio plant.
Warren is pretty much within spitting distance of Youngstown so it’s all good
When i was in the Canadian Army, they used to say if you're not bitchin', you're not happy.
I feel ur frustration!! I hate when other people lay out my tarps, like u said, if it done the right way (my way) it is frustrating cleanin it up.
Rest up, Dan. Keep up the great videos.
Excellent video! And pretty typical steel mill and or foundry road repair, rather lack of!
8:20 I've never seen anything like that before. Really great idea.
Dan, I loaded at Republic I think on 8th Ave and at their place in Massillon and that was in the 80’s and it wasn’t like that then, by the way I always made a turn by turn on a 3x5 recipe card so I could find all these places, anyway thanks for the memories !
That scale area would have made a great moto cross track, geeze they need a grader!
while driving, i kept hearing about this pot hole in Las Vegas. they said it was so big and so deep, that an old cady was lost in that hole when the unsuspecting driver plowed thru it, thinking its just water.
Man the fuel looked cheep. We are paying 3.99 in Texas,
Nice looking tarp job, that will work for sure👍
I havent watched the whole video yet, But I laughed in the first 30 seconds of the video compared to your title. Love it!
I'm with you on the tarp machines and the rough roads...they need to get some gravel and fill in them roads
Hi Dan, I'm an old Engineer, regardless of the job, last thing I would is to tidy up the job like removing the sharp edges, the trailer manufacturers have no pride in their job, it's not hard to buff the edges as assembly of the trailer
You wish everyone would take pride in there work!
Looked like the tubing place had the loading down to A science, glad they didn't damage your a/c or your satellite. I do enjoy your videos. watching for the next one.
Glad to hear you are coming into WV don't forget to pick up some pepperoni rolls be careful God bless😇😇
You don't know how to tell a Happy trucker!! He's the one that's always complaining!! Be safe out there Brother Peace
Very cool video. Reminded me of your "Lost in a Steel Mill" video. :)
I agree with getting an APU or Generator. I run a 4000w gas Predator with a stand alone AC floor unit. Yes I have to get gas about every 10hrs, but total investment between the generator and AC unit are under $1000, verses $10-11k for a APU unit. On average, I save, give or take, 2000hrs on the engine idling per year.
i got kicked out of a company cause i refused to do short runs in the NE. i was a company driver and we don't make money on short runs. i don't care what anyone says, i made money on long distance runs, plus i hated the NE. just too crowded and people were not all that friendly, either.
Keep it up!!
The green machine wow that's awesome
Your at my plant I 'll be there today .i am a inter plant truck for Wheatland tube family and that k.w. behind you is,lease to the company I work for.
I know all those guys they are cool
And those big yellow machines are called side loaders they are,old u.s. military bomb loaders. I have been around them for 12 years now.
I like their tarping system use to haul pipe that had to be tarped beats climbing and unrolling
Hello dan stay safe, from the 114 degrees imperial co California.
A good dispatcher can make a big difference. Stay safe.
I'm laughing at Dan's sense of humor .. sitting in my Pete watching him war zone good one lol
I passed you this morning on I-80 in OH, you were going east empty, I was going west getting ready to get off on 280 north
Sometimes I think Mercer has too tell there customer, that the won't do the halling, because off the worst roads. I do think that the also has a kind of responsibility for there truck driver. It can cost lot of dollar in repair for the hauler.
Why in the US do you have strange axle setups? Tandems completely at the rear or spread axles on flatbeds. Surely this makes it awkward to pull a trailer and means you have to take wider turns and more tyre scrub
On this particular setup, the rear axle airbags dump, making the trailer pivot off the front axle, so its like driving a 38' trailer. And on a 10' spread, you can have 20,000lbs on each trailer axle, while a tandem you can only have 34,000lbs total. Oh and the trailers equipped with tandems, they are able to slide them forwards and backwards to adjust for the load.
@@jwpalmer24 I'm not sure why the UK and european trailers haven't been adopted with single wheel tri axles. In the UK our MGW is 44000kg/97000lbs. I'm sure it would make them much more manouvarble
I used to drive for swift when I was 21 and let me tell you it sucks I was out for 7 weeks got a call from my wife my house was robbed I call my despatched and she was out her dog was sick I need to get home so what they did is send me to Mississippi I live I. Ny I was in pa so what I did when seen that was on hook my calcom and drove home let's say that was last time driving for them but love the videos
Dan back in the late 70s early 80s i have had appointments at republic steel...sat there one time 21 hours waiting to back into a hole.🤦🏻♂️ place was like a 3rd world country for a 20 year old trip lease O/O. Good point on fire brick....never heard/ thought of that. Used for The kiln....but we still never tarped....only reason i took brick out of PA....plus they gave us all we wanted to put on the deck😂 .. But i bet your fire brick was being used ASAP and had to be dry....HEY sounded like observation....not complaining 👍👍👍👍
With a complex that large i would have thought they’d have an Ariel photo that they could text you with the route marked on it.
72 gallons of fuel idled away... whew.
I liked your comment. "This is one of the places we take off the list. We ain't comin back here again"
Dont associate stark county with the armpit known as mahoning county (youngstown) republic steel has had it hard over the years.
A question came up on one of the FB truck pages about whats the longest people have went without turning the truck off. Truth or not who knows, but i was surprised at the responses of people claiming anywhere from 20-30+ days straight.
I laughed out loud at "You got 15 here and you'll tear something up"
Appreciate The Video Dan And Happy Trucking
Brother Dan Q, would you ever want your truck customized meanings an air brushed art, neon lights I seen other trucks like this. I guess the trucks that are customized are straight out owners of their rigs.
lindo vídeo e boa sorte
My neighbor is a state trooper and got a call about a tarp Laying in the road he brought it home and asked did I want it I said heck yea it still smells new I use it to cover up my fire logs
This could be a new feature. “Pothole of the day”. Since you don’t do trains anymore
You're allowed to complain. It's your property. I didn't know the bricks for kilns were water soluble. Learn something everyday! Thanks.
seen you at Wheatland in Warren yesterday I had the red light while you went through on the green light at the intersection
This scale is a mess! I bring some electrode from canada twice a week in the past! You need to watch the tire trailer every time 😬
Happy new hair cut Super trucker Dad 😆 How’s the fuel mild with your new Ali lift axle trailer? Idling truck engines should be banned 😬 Apu should be compulsory 👍🏻 Keep cool and safe buddy 😎🏴
never saw that before where they pick your tarp up like that
Again grate music stay safe Ed ☀️ Suncity
I like your video.. thanks for the hard work of editing is appreciated it
Yup,I'm in there everyday and yes it's worse after it rains but the people there are always nice to deal with..
Good Job Dan Thanks
We haven’t seen any trains lately. Lol
Republic steel of canton was a shit hole 12 years age when my wife worked there.
I’m no Trucker but I thought that tarp cover majigy was cool 😎
We all have those day's.
2:15 - 2;28 big signs saying trucks must make complete stop before entering scales , dan just rolls right on there lol
Why the hell would anyone idle the big engine for 3 days. What a waste! Wear and tear
Good footage STD
Safe trips always 🚛 🚛 🚛 🚛 😀👋
You never drive at night not many truckers do that...
Probably a good thing looking at his headlight lenses.
If that’s the worst place you’ve ever been Dan, you’ve been really lucky, we get shitholes like that on a daily basis.
