I don’t think he counts as an Everton reject. He was always going to have a place at Sporting and was seen as a good prospect from their academy. They just loaned him out so he could get more experience and never intended to sell him around the time they loaned him. So even if Everton had wanted to keep him, Sporting would have probably tried to hold on to him
