  • In this video we finally install my (USDM) monogram/release series headlights onto the FRS. Harness adapter is not needed - I used this to prevent cutting and splicing the factory wires. You can simply repin the wires to the 6 pin connector and do the same splice for power. However, if you’d like to preserve factory wiring the adapter is a great option. You can buy it here: led86.com.au/p... (about $46 USD + shipping)

    Thanks again to forum members EndlessAzure and Rokius for the helpful diagrams and pinout descriptions. Couldn't have done it without ft86club.com.

    Thanks for the write up! I want to get OEM monograms for my base model as well! And I like the way the LED strip is the daytime running lights!

    its nice how you made the led strip a running light instead of only high beams!

    Did you have any problems with the leds strips burning out or getting on fire when you was using it for DRL?

    • @MidnightChaos
      @MidnightChaos  11 месяцев назад +1

      No I wired according to the diagram and removed the drl module from the front of the car. It’s been a few years but there is a write up on ft86 forums I followed.. I also have a wiring and install video on the channel you can check out. But been running them for a few years now no issues at all

      So LEDS in the headlamps as a DRL didn’t burn out? Because the JDM version didn’t use the LEDS in the headlamps as a DRL. It only came on when the low beam was on

      These are off of an rs1 and are wired like the usdm spec. Mine have not burned out no issues on my setup

    im confuse on the parts from getting power from high beams+(pin7) i had read some forum say you should get the power from the DRL resistor that you did uninstall, but i dont see you use the power from that DRL resistor , also i saw the website you bought the harness from, they do have a black wire to a yellow wire that leave unconnected yet, so that why i dont understand your set up, can you explain it to me,thank you

    • @MidnightChaos
      @MidnightChaos  4 года назад

      There is no resistor wire with this setup. The DRL strip gets tapped to the highbeam wire; thats what powers the DRL when the ebrake is down, and shuts off when low beams are on. Also that harness is made for headlights with built-in blinkers so that extra wire will get removed. I repinned the jumper harness per the diagram in the video description (the google drive link). All the splicing was done directly on the jumper harness and no extra wires are needed. You really dont need the extra harness, I just used it to preserve the factory wires.

      Midnight Chaos so is that mean I just follow your way to repin the harness and remove the resistor under the horn and that’s all it need? Also if I turn it to the high beam is the led will go on too?

    • @MidnightChaos
      @MidnightChaos  4 года назад

      If you do it the way I did in the video it will work close to OEM. The led strip does come on with the high-beam doing it this way (11:48). All of the forums I read recommend to remove the resistor with the headlights, so I did just to be safe. So basically, remove the resistor box, And splice into the highbeam wire for the DRL.

      @@MidnightChaos so basically just follow the diagram from your google drive, connect 6pins connectors pin 1-5, leave the pin6 blank, for the 8 pin connector side connect 2-6 following the diagram but pin 1&7 pin together and pin it into pin1 on the 6 pin connector side and thats it right?

    • @MidnightChaos
      @MidnightChaos  4 года назад +1

      If you use the harness adapter then yes.. you’d be leaving pin #6 (white) unplugged on the 6 pin side. And then on the 8 pin side, all pins should be connected except slots 2 and 3. Then attach the end of the unplugged White LED+ into Yellow Highbeam+ wire as shown.. Hope that helps. When you do it, it helps to have the headlights and the diagram with you since the jumper wires are all black.

    How do you aim the headlights now? Because you didn’t add the auto aiming feature that’s on the monogram series.

      Adjusted them manually with 10mm socket

    I have a question, I got mine install but it seems like the DRL is kinda weak. I didn’t have the plug and play harness like yours instead rewired the basic to the monogram harness. Are you experiencing the same problem as me?

    • @MidnightChaos
      @MidnightChaos  4 года назад

      No my DRLs are pretty bright as you can see towards the end of the video. I haven’t had any issues since installing. Where did you tap to get power to your DRL wire?
