- When conservator Faye Wrubel examined Caillebotte's masterpiece "Paris Street; Rainy Day" in the Art Institute's conservation studio after it had traveled from Paris to New York and back to Chicago in the exhibition "Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity," she discovered, among other things, that the varnish had yellowed over the decades, significantly altering the painting. Watch as Faye's deft touch, hard work, and expertise return the painting-and Paris-to the artist's original vision.

Caillebotte deserves to be more widely known.
I am a Chicagoland resident who has seen this painting many times, which I have always admired. My thanks in advance to Ms. Wrubal, for her expert and painstaking
restoration. I can't wait to see the results in person (and it occurs to me that I will be on Michigan Ave. in two days!).
Amazing. A wonderful job working hands on with these works of art.
Didn't know this was at the CAI. Will be visiting there for the first time this weekend. Must make it a point to see this. Caillebotte is one of fave painters! Visited his old rowing club bldg at the isle d'Chatou on the Seine 6 years ago.
This was actually pretty awesome. I could tell she's passionate about her work. She in herself is an artist. This is her work. She did great.
Fantastic work from this lady.
Wow.
Very cool!
great !!!!
I would love to see this in person.
Does it ever travel to Europe?
Yes, it has been to Europe 4 times since the Art Institute acquired it in 1964, most recently at the Berlin, Alte Nationalgalerie, Gustave Caillebotte: Painter and Patron of Impressionism, April 26 - October 8 2019.
