Next time I'm hanging out with folks who can take a joke and I need the ketchup passed I'll certainly have to try signing CAT SOUP and see how long it takes them to figure it out.
Does anyone out there know the exact meaning of the sign Dr. Vicars is doing after ENJOY at 19:50? I've tried looking up several different signs and I can't figure out what it means exactly. If anyone knows, help me out. Thanks.
Good question. NATIONAL and NORMAL are indeed very similar. Maybe this is just "me" but I tend to do the sign for NORMAL using a bit more of a "slap" type movement. I do the sign for NATIONAL with a bit more of a "plant the flag" type of movement. But many of my friends do those two signs the exact same. One thing I've noticed is that the sign for NORMAL sometimes adds a bit of a head-nod which creates a connotation of "That is normal." Also, I tend to use a palm-down "fist" as my non-dominant hand but some people use a palm-down flat hand as their non-dominant hand (both versions are ok).
Hi Dr. Bill...You were saying you like to study something that looked like Biography, but I could never pick up the last couple of letters except the S at the end. What was it you were spelling? Thanks! Love your classes!
@@sign-language fair enough of an answer. I think subconsciously I was expecting some amusing Dr. Bill answer, but Google is indeed the master of all. 😅
Ah HA! You were fishing for amusement! Okay...um...here we go: No! I won't tell you any more about Chili Colorado. Nope. Because one bite and it would ruin you for life. Your love of Mexican food would be replaced entirely by a love of only and specifically Chili Colorado. This will be a source of extreme mental anguish each time you enter a restaurant (Mexican or otherwise) that doesn't serve Chili Colorado. Plus you will become very boring to go out to eat with. Because you will want Chili Colorado every ... single ... time. So...nope...Chili Colorado is not a thing. Actually, I just made it up. It is not real. Nuh uh. Forget you ever heard of it. I was just making up a random fictional food that doesn't really exist. Ha, ha, ...ha.
@@sign-language haha as always, you never disappoint! Now I have a mission to try this elusive, nonexistent chili colorado! Thank you for indulging me with your humor!
Eeeeeeexcuse me! Chile colorado DOES exist! I’m Mexican, living in Texas for more than 20 years now and I still make it for my queso fresco enchiladas, tamales, gorditas, asado de puerco, and more! It’s so delicious😋😋😋. You should try it some time…you won’t regret it!
I see that you asked this question in the Lifeprint-ASLU Facebook group and received an answer already. I love that group! ("skip" -- as in "skipped Tuesdays")
its called a non-manual marker (facial expression) and it's used a lot in ASL to help convey the meaning of what the signer's trying to say. Typically, when someone sticks their tongue out a bit while signing, it indicates that the tone of what the signer's trying to say is probably lazy/lousy, relaxed, useless, or awkward, depending on the context.
It’s a VERY important part of sign language. Deaf people don’t have tone of voice , expressing themselves as much as they can through exaggerated movements is the only way for everyone to understand what they really mean and how they really feel.

A great addition to "ketchup" or catsup would be the sign for "cat soup".
Next time I'm hanging out with folks who can take a joke and I need the ketchup passed I'll certainly have to try signing CAT SOUP and see how long it takes them to figure it out.
Is it just me, or does she look like she's enjoying the asl classes now?
Kenani Koreski .....she does yes. She looks happy in this video and is doing a great job too.
Lol...Bill I love learning from you. You are a funny guy.

i got eyebrow workout here, getting stronger
Soon you may want to start entering competitions.

Hello Dr Bill Vicars, I have a question.
what is the difference of principle and bro of law (LAW)?
Hi Dr. Bill...You were saying you like to study something that looked like Biography, but I could never pick up the last couple of letters except the S at the end. What was it you were spelling? Thanks! Love your classes!
I was probably spelling "biographies." As in autobiographies.
Laura Chatfield he signed biographies
Kenani Koreski I second your opinion.
what's chili Colorado? I love Mexican food but have never heard of that. Is that more a Tex Mex thing?
Tip: Google "Chili Colorado" and the mystery will be revealed.

I tried a grape after drowning it in ketchup and yeah it's bad.
WHY does he do that tongue thing? It's so odd.
