      It's a short solution, in a long term it will turn to previous state and worse cuz heat will draw out the oils from plastic and turn it more brittle etc. I wouldn't recommend doing it 😲

    I would hate to think about how much it would cost to do this level of restoration to an entire car. Probably three times the total cost of the entire car to buy second hand. The amount of labor, time and equipment required is way beyond the abilities of average car enthusiast to do themselves. I have 03 WRX STi Type UK with the usual rotting underbody sills and everything else... would probably cost as much as buying a new EV to repair it fully. Probably why 95% of old WRX and STis are now off the road. My car is a rarity now - only recently have young children took an interest in it again when they see it on road - not many left on roads compared to 10-15 years ago.

    • @danbarruffo7743
      @danbarruffo7743 2 года назад

      Restorations at this level are usually a matter for the heart not the head. I'm currently building a custom Lada for a customer. Financially it makes no sense but the end result will be an epic one off.

    Loving the project, great work guys, nice to see a build with such a high attention to detail. Is it possible your car has a big brake option and that’s why the backing plates didn’t fit, I’m sure most of the other P1’s I’ve seen videos and photos of only have the smaller Subaru 4 pot calipers.

    • @Torque-GT
      @Torque-GT  2 года назад +3

      Yep, we have the big brake Alcon option. After speaking with Subaru apparently this was the only backing plate available for the P1 so we have to modify the smaller backing plate!

      @@danbarruffo7743 also looks like you're missing the washers on the bolts that hold the rear subframe in.
      I would also make sure you torque the suspension bolts at ride height otherwise you'll only get a few weeks out of your bushings....ask me how I know...

    • @danbarruffo7743
      @danbarruffo7743 2 года назад

      We've only torqued the main subframe bushes at the moment and ilthey did have heavy-duty top hat style washers pushed in. All suspension will be tightened and torqued once the car is loaded with engine gearbox etc.

    Note on those KYB shocks, they are garbage. I've had two Version 6 STIs (effectively the 4 door version of your car) and they've failed before 35,000KM on both. You'll get a tell tale knock from one corner of the car sooner or later. I'd say that's why they were hard to find as so many were replaced under warranty. I always flung them and replaced with Tein SuperStreet coilovers.

    will be getting stripped back down to fit the brake pipes?

  • @IvanAtThe555
    @IvanAtThe555 2 года назад

    I think part of the rationale for inverted shocks is to attach more of the weight the body side of the spring rather than have it add to the wheel unsprung mass.
    That said, they also manage to lose their lubrication inside of 20,000 and start with the knocking. They're a pain on the later new age cars.
    P.S. Not using rubbers on the spring seat?

    That inverted monotube rear ends up having a knocking as time goes on. I really haven't found too man people solving that issue.
