    Most sites recommend no more than 5inch overhang from brackets, have you noticed any issues so far? your brackets are only half the length of your desk

    • @ntsp00
      @ntsp00 Год назад

      No they aren't? At 13:48 you can clearly see the brackets are over 3/4 the depth of the desk with only a 5 or 6 inch overhang.

    • @JWynia

      No warping at all. And I put up another one like it (though no L) in the room next door. Both working great.

  • @russellbramante4428
    @russellbramante4428 2 года назад

    do you worry about wood movement when attaching the brackets to the top? ie. directly screwing into the wood top as opposed to another fastening system?

    • @obscurityworks5933
      @obscurityworks5933  2 года назад +1

      Maybe if I was putting them somewhere where the humidity and temps swing wildly. My basement is pretty consistent year-round. But, even then, there's a bit of room for movement in the bracket holes. In the 18 months they've been in use (I built another of these), there have been zero issues.

      Wooden shims between the brackets and countertop might work

      Yeah, wood shims, just be sure to attach them to the desk's underside before securing to brackets.

    • @realworldguroo
      @realworldguroo 3 года назад +2

      @@tiduswrath nope, I built my desk this way though. Def sturdy, I can sit and stands on it. I have an extra I used and can tell you the measurements / describe it.
      The length of the bolt is 3 & 1/16” long and the diameter of the head is .5”. The head does not have a Philip or Flathead indention, they have to be ratchet on. Head also says ATC. I think I got it at Home Depot when I got the brackets. If not, then it was Lowe’s. Pain in the butt to figure out.

    Your pilot holes looked way too small for those lag bolts. Could just be the camera but I’m guessing that’s why the lag bolts were breaking.

    • @JWynia
      @JWynia 3 года назад

      I did use a bigger bit on the brackets the next time. What's weird though is that we had used those same lag bolts in the shop without breaking shortly before we did this project.
