I guess I don't really understand why I'm supposed to be upset that it's created by AI. This doesnt prevent any "real" musicians from creating cool music, and there's still plenty of room left on YT for music made by real bands.
No. The problem is one of dilution. Let's say that YT has a dozen artists, each of which has six albums which took said artist weeks to create. So, you have 72 albums with... we'll say, 11 tracks each, for 722 total of tracks that artists have monetized across all revenue-stream formats. Now, along comes some chucklehead with an AI they've trained to replicate certain genres of music, and they can whip out 11 albums of generative trash in a week. Every week. Every month. All effin' year. And because they've trained that generative AI on "exotic" musics that aren't as well-known, there's a lot of specious claims being made...which further misleads the potential audience into believing they're hearing ACTUAL ARTISTS. So while the clickbaity nonsense goes on on these ever-expanding zero human efforts, the artists that we were talking about not only have to get their music out to people, but they have to create the covers, cook up a video or three, tour, and STILL find time for that Day Job. So there's literally ZERO ways for real artists to keep up with these slimeballs, and the more their AI generated, the more money gets taken from actual artists, producers, engineers, and so on. People just think that musicians sit around all day and do nothing. But that couldn't be further from the truth...and now that someone with no artistic background can hop online and get AI to churn out ten more albums in a few days...well, how are WE supposed to compete with a robot that has no need for inconvenient things like "food" or "electricity" or "roof overhead"? Especially once people without discriminating taste get hooked on the idea that music can ENTIRELY be cranked off by a bot, at fire sale prices? Yeah...real promising times. 😐 Since the US Government is about to eat the Orange Acid, perhaps the private sector can "fix" this; I'm thinking that one of my first New Year actions needs to be discussing this with ASCAP, who handles my publishing and artist rights. They're not likely to enjoy what they find.
