Whats interesting about these is they are a piston and cylinder from a locomotive engine except the piston is monuted on the driving rod and the cyliner is mounted on the hammer assembly.
@shortnews888 I used to case harden the cylinders at LMI. After rough honing, we painted them black and then laser heat treated them. The final stage of testing was to bolt them to a rig similar to one of these pile drivers, fire off 24 shots, then examine the case hardened area for stress cracking. Definitely in the really need to be perfect catagory, as a catastrophic failure would be extremely catastrophic to say the least. ❤️
