Just want to say thank you again. Learning to sew I find a LOT of people look down on men sewing and I applaud you for helping to blaze the way for all of us.
For sure! It's wild how quickly new techniques for cosplay are coming out so rapidly. I just started doing the videos for TNT Cosplay Supply if you're looking for new videos to watch also, I'll be doing a ton of them throughout the year :) Thanks for the comment, hope you have a great Sunday!
I'm a beginner (56 year old man ) and I really appreciate what you're teaching us. I'm able to learn so easily from you because you are a great teacher. Thanks!
just bought a new machine knew nothing about sewing but I sure learned something here thank you very much you did a great job you have a great voice and you're a good teacher what more can I say oh I know what I can say if you were my kid I'd be so damn proud of you
Hey Tock Custom. Love your sewing tutorials. Can you talk about why you sew a large (for example 5/8”) seam allowance and then cut it down to maybe 1/8” instead of just sewing it at 1/8” from the start? Thanks
Great video! I always struggle with the zipper application in garment construction. Oftentimes, I use a longer zipper than necessary to avoid the "bump" when I sew next to the pull. Then I move the pull up and cut off the extra zipper tape. Thanks for posting.
Enjoying this new info. I have a bunch of Talon zippers I inherited & I'm trying to take a pattern for cargo pants (I have the two pattern pieces) & modify as I do not prefer the button fly closure. Whereabouts should I measure on the fly pattern to modify for needed zipper length?
I have just learnt a new trick from you Chris than you so much. My hubby has a race suit that he uses for fire and rescue but the zipper is stuffed is there a way can fix it
i found the best way to make a zipper from coming off is to do a 90 degree angle on the open end, its neater and stops the zipper coming off, also when using continuous zipper tape I "burn" the cut ends it stops it from fraying , Ive made a few bags, and thats how i do my zippers , there is some tutorial that show you this way, it gives a better cleaner finish on the ends
Thanks for the video. I am amazed by that zipper tape. I was in the store the other day looking at zippers thinking I would be spending a ton of money on zippers. Happy to know they make them in a "bulk" option. I am interested in making my own custom fanny packs. Hope to see a video similar or related to make custom bags.
Makes you look back at items we've tossed but was simple to fix. Is there a thread that is best for making the "Stopper", like an alloy? Hot Tip... Thrift stores for sewing kits and other bobs an ends.
You're very welcome! I have a full hoodie tutorial too if you need help installing a zipper onto a solid fronted pullover too. Let me know if you need anything else, thanks for watching :)
Very useful, thank you! Any chance you could do a couple of videos on making a polo (golf) shirt and also a sweater with knit material. I'm really stumped on the collars, neck and sleeve ends for these types of garments. Love your videos.
I'd love to do a Polo style shirt, I'm going to add that to my list of videos to make. I did make a video on how to make a hoodie, which you can do with any knit fabrics. In fact, the pattern I used in that video had 4 styles of sweaters in it... if you can make a hoodie, making a sweater is even easier!
Great tutorial! Do you have a video or could you explain how to do a bag with just one side of the zipper tape? I have difficulty reattaching the zipper pull. And if there is a specific kind of zipper that needs to be used for that type of application.
I could certainly do a video on how to sew a zipper pouch into a panel of fabric no problem. Doing a video on repairing a zipper is tough though because zippers always "break" in different ways, so it would be tough to cover all of those angles if that makes sense. Any time a zipper falls apart on me, I just remove it and re-install a new one :) Great suggestion!
Tock Custom when doing a bag with one side of the zipper tape you have to take the zipper pull completely off. I can’t figure out how to get it back on so it will zip shut. I thought you may know how to do it. I’ve watched plenty of videos on how to make them, just can’t complete it. There is never an explanation
Great tutorial, thanks! (By the way, the Famore Cutlery shears affiliate link seems to be broken - it just asks you to register *as* an affiliate, it doesn't show the shears for people to buy.)
For pouches you can also sew a little fabric pieces at both ends. Then the pouch would be more rectangular (if you would liketo have it more rectanglular). :)
Yes! It add a ton of polish to the final project too, and it's pretty simple to do. Great suggestion! I should show that technique in a video soon :) Thank you!
Im super confused. Can I use the same thread on my bobbin as the top thread ? or does the bobbin have to be different from the top such as in color, weight, and material ? Also can you do a video on how to replace jean/pant zipper as well as creating a button down shirt into a zipper shirt ?
Man, how do you keep making these videos about the thing I was JUST beginning to think about? Are you a precog, or something?😄 Seriously, I couldn't figure out anything about how to get zippers to function outside of the premade ones. Thanks ✌️ Also, nine inch zippers would have been a good name for a nine inch nails swing cover band. You know, for those 3 weeks in the '90s when that would have been cool 😁
Just want to say thank you again. Learning to sew I find a LOT of people look down on men sewing and I applaud you for helping to blaze the way for all of us.
Once you start making so really nice stuff, nobody will ever look down on you :) Keep it going!
I rather like these short, detail oriented videos.
Thanks dude! Man, I really tried to make this video shorter... but this was the best I could do. Oh well :)
Hot damn. I could have used this 6 months back when I was sewing my magneto cosplay costume. Will for sure be watching this again on my next project

I'm so glad I found your channel
Hygiene bag? I think I'm the last guy calling it a dop kit. Your videos are teaching me much. Ich danke dir vielmals für die Hilfe.
gern geschehen! Ich schätze Ihre positive Bemerkung :) Hoffe, Sie haben ein tolles Wochenende!
Omg, this is amazing ..didn’t know that was even a thing. thanks again Tock I’m learning so much with you !

Glad to hear this was so helpful! Zippers freak a lot of us out, so the more information, the better for all of us!

This is a short and usefull video. I like this kind of turorials.
Thank you so much for watching, happy this was helpful. Have a terrific week!
Thank you for 5:50 (sewing stoppers on the zipper)!

Yes! I did forget to mention melting the ends when I recorded this, thanks for mentioning it :)

Yep! Happy this was a helpful video, once I found out about the zipper tape, I pretty much always buy this stuff now :)
Holy crap, yes. This is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY! Thanks for sharing Tock.
lol thanks! Hope you're doing amazing, fantastic to hear from you as always
Makes you look back at items we've tossed but was simple to fix.

Hot Tip... Thrift stores for sewing kits and other bobs an ends.
I think there are zipper kits to add metal stoppers, but I always just use thread because its basically free, and you can always hide the stoppers
Really useful, that's one of the first things i have to do for my first project.
Excellent, I knew this was a very specific video to make, but I thought it was good knowledge for people to have :)
Thank you! Looking forward to the men’s jeans make!!!😎🌵🤠👏🏻
Those are going to be my next videos! Coming soon :)
I TOTALLY needed to see this !!! I have a fave pull over hoodie (which I prefer with a zipper/sentimental) now I can finally get it done !!! Thanks 👍
You're very welcome! I have a full hoodie tutorial too if you need help installing a zipper onto a solid fronted pullover too. Let me know if you need anything else, thanks for watching :)
Thanks for that Tock custom I needed to know how to make an open ended zipper
Perfect! Thanks for the comment, very happy to help!

@@TockCustom I did watch that one. I didn't realize you could do the entire thing from knit fabrics. Thanks!

I will be making a vending apron with pockets. Can you make a custom zipper with 3 pulls for 3 separate pockets.
Love your videos and always learn something new, please make lots more.
I'll be making LOTS more stuff throughout this year and beyond. Thanks for watching :)
The light bulb went off on many of these applications. Thanks.
Great tutorial, thanks! (By the way, the Famore Cutlery shears affiliate link seems to be broken - it just asks you to register *as* an affiliate, it doesn't show the shears for people to buy.)
Oh thank you so much for letting me know, i'll fix it as soon as possible! Thank you!
I want to thank you for showing the lock thingy in the back of the sewing machine...I haven't check my yet 😂
Happy to help!
Thanks Tock! your the best!

@@TockCustomI would love to see a video tutorial of this.
I will use this lesson.
It's super valuable to know, and a huge money saver :)
Can this apply to leather working?
Great video Tock. I live to learn TY
Thank you so much for watching! Appreciate the comment and the support :)
Thanks for this, I'll have to try it out!
For sure, I love this technique!
What if you accidentally pull the zipper pull off of the zipper tape do you have any tricks of putting it back on?
Its totally possible, and a total pain in the ass lol. I've gotten kinda good at it, just takes practice!
Hey, I have a jacket that I love to wear but it is a snap closure. Is there a way to sew a zipper in to it and snap over the zipper?
Thanks - very helpful
Happy to help, thank you for watching!

You should use the same sew all thread for both the bobbin and the top thread for basic construction, excellent question :)
Oh also I just released a video about 10 minutes ago on installing a zipper into a pair of jeans!
Great tutorial!
Thank you so much for watching! Have a wonderful weekend Renee!

Thank you
You're welcome
Thank you 😊💪💪💪💪
BOO-YA!
Awesome thanks
My mind is blown
lol, hope you're feeling back to normal by now. Thanks for watching :)
That's not making it. It's putting it together from a kit.
So... you can't make your own because you need the kit to make it...
