I had the Ditto X2, then sold it and got the EHX720. For my needs the 720 is a lot better! The Fade out stop mode is a big plus. And the reverse/halfspeed button are better, than the switch implementation on the Ditto. Also I like better that on the 720 no matter if you run it mono or stereo you have unity volume at noon. On the ditto if run in stereo you need to lift the volume up to 3/4 to have unity, this means you have less "reserve volume".
Thanks for this comparison. I have an RC-30 that I'm looking to replace and the 720 seemed appealing due to the fade option. Discovering the 720 also has silent switches is a must since I plan to use it at church, where you can hear everything. This review solidified my thoughts and also gave some good, practical comparisons. Thanks!
@Alessio Di Summa Don't misunderstand, I love the RC-30, but I don't use the mic input or many of the other features, so having a smaller/lighter pedal works better for me right now.
I'm looking to get my first looper and this was very helpful for deciding between these two choices. Actually I already technically have a looper built-in to my EHX Grand Canyon but it just gets too complicated going through the myriad delay settings it already has and trying to loop with the same pedal, especially if I want to change delay settings while overdubbing. Great video and I liked the format.
I like how you do your demos, at least so far anyway. Most videos have some hammer head going at it with full gain on all his distortion pedals, which doesn't tell me a thing and I turn it off immediately.
I bought the Ditto X2 and liked it a lot but the FX-switch stopped working all of a sudden so I had to return it. Will probably buy the 720 now. I also have the Boss RC-20XL which in 14 years has never failed me. That one is great for live use. Very easy to clear loops. Thanks for your video!
I like the Ditto’s sound just a tad bit better. I also prefer the cables coming out of the top. But feature wise, I’d probably go with the EHX, in fact I’m probably going to be getting a 22500 soon? Thanks for taking the time to do this!
I've had both and found the footswitch of the Ditto X2 to be louder under quiet conditions like playing in small acoustic set ups. The 720 just has way more functionality because of the memory presets.
Great demo, wish that 720 had a USB to store loops !! Btw - I have that exact same Squier Jazzmaster in Sonic Blue, took it to guitar center and did a side by side comparison with the $1100 MIM Jazzmaster and like the Squire much better, go figure ....
Just stumbled across your vid looking up info on the 720, informative! But most of all, that tone and sound was incredible! 👍If only you made a song with that haha.
Very impressive. For such a young guy he's got it all together. Its so nice seeing a demo of anything like this where there isn't rippin', distorted Rock music playing the entire time. It helps give us an idea for the equipment's use in other genres like ambient, jazz, etc. Nice job. I'm betting this guy will be putting out some nice albums in the future as well....
Great informative video. Just an added mention. I have the X2. It has a feature (not mentioned) for Backing Track Level. You can increase or decrease (basically mix) the levels in real time. The digital readout on the 720 seems pretty nice and the ability to store a bunch of tracks and recall numerically is a huge plus rather than forcing you to save something externally , like on the Ditto X2.
Thanks a lot! You really helped me picking the best for me, i.e. the 720 because I value more coming back to different loops easily than exporting the one loop to computer.
I started with the ditto but reliability was a big issue, I went through 4 in 6 years, either a switch failed or software issue or they just died. When your looper dies it’s like your rhythm guitar player never showed up!! I went with the 720 and found the sound and operation almost identical but way more reliable. I bought 2 to be safe and eventually one had a switch go but I was pleasantly surprised when E Harmonix has a repair deal where you pay $25 and they fix it! The only thing w the 720 is when you cancel a loop it takes about 3 seconds while you hold down the button where the ditto is quicker. I’ve never tried storing loops, prefer to do everything in real time.
Luke Knoble The EHX Pitchfork is the noisiest pedal on my board so I wouldn’t be surprised. EHX makes good stuff, just wish they’d figure the noise thing out.
Yes! The static, but also the 720 is more of a lofi sound. The Ditto sounds more like SOTA delay pedals. I was surprised by the difference but not shocked based on my experience with other EHXs.
Was gonna buy the regular Ditto, kinda like the 720... I don't use loopers to record or play out, I like them more for doodling riffs and ideas. The problem with me is that I usually forget, so the 720 seems to be a better all around option. I set up my amps and pedals with a looper. Kinda nice to play a short loop and leave it play while you dial your amp(s) in, walk away, listen, adjust, etc... Making amp or pedal adjustments while standing in front of a speaker isn't ideal. Nice demo man, good sound/video quality, really helped me out. Off to Reverb... Maybe I can find a demo or barely used model. Just grabbed a mint BeatBuddy with sd card for $200. 🤘
Excellent job explaining things and nice tunes. I liked and subscribed. Maybe next time set the camera on a desk while you talk cuz I got really dizzy watching but other than that, great job!
Hi. Great comparison. Thx. Can you explain me please wich effects do you use for your beatiful Ambience Guitar Sound? Wich Effect pedals do you use? Wich VOlume Pedals have you?
Hey there. This has been an amazing and informative video. Out of curiosity, I LOVE your sound. What pedals are you using here and what's your signal chain? THanks.
The graphic on the 720 is excellent. But for me, usb connectivity is a must! You don't need to save it on the pedal if you can just put it in the DAW, I think that wasTC Electronic's intention.
Yes the ditto has a USB out. I had one and i never could use it. Seems that it is a problem for many people. TC technician were not able to help me. For the other functionalities, it is a good pedal
Mario Girard That’s unfortunate, seems like a nice feature for those who don’t have much audio equipment but would like to get audio files to their computer for editing.
Thanks for the great review. Some people complain of latency with the EHX -- that it's trickier to time looping than other pedals. You don't seem to have any issues. Was it difficult to get the hang of the EHX? Do you still use the EHX?
True bypass on the ditto if you’re an analog pedal person or want a quieter signal chain I don’t know about the ehx but it seems solid enough for what it does.
I have one EHX 720 , but it fail some times , when I use de undo ↩️ it stop to play the loop , or when I will overdub !! It very unreliable!!! I don’t know if it my unit !!!
Cool music. Really dig your ambient sound. Curious what kind of interface you use as well as other pedals ? And what about the 22500? Look forward to more vids.
Was the random wet sounds(drips) during the ditto from spring reverb or is that from the ditto coloring the signal? It seemed to be from the moving of fingers up the neck, and not as wet sounding during the 720 demoing. That being said, the ditto did sound better to my ears, not sure if the signal was peaking with the 720, but made it sound less polished.
The Ammoon Stereo Looper looks like a circuitry rip-off from the EHX 720. It advertises as a "Compact and powerful stereo looping pedal with high quality uncompressed audio: 24-bit A/D/A, 44.1KHz sample rate". Do you think it is worth buying the $79usd version of the EHX 720?
My Ditto works still but my Ditty X2 broke three months after I bought it. I can't find any source to get it repaired. Does anyone know how to or who to call. Ghostbusters
Does anyone know: if you record with the 1/2 speed engaged and then disengage it afterwards, does it do double time ( like the line6 dl4) ?? Thanks . I’m curious about both pedals if anyone knows
How much recording time do you get with the 720, I have the Boss rc 2 which only gives you 12 mins of recording divided between 11 tracks which isn't much , I like to store whole songs .
Pat Bassman same 12 minutes for the 720. If you're storing whole songs I might look at the rc3 (3 hours) or something that allows SD cards like Digitech jammans
@@DanMuellerMusic Yeah thanks Dan I know about the RC3 , I was drawn towards the Ditto x2 and the 720 because of the separate stop button , double tapping is a pain in the wus name as well.
I have the 720, and got also the ammoon stereo looper, for my noise setup. It's a ceaper clone of the 720, and it works like it should. The only thing you CAN'T DO is change the "loop-flow", it only goes rec-play-dub, you can't set it to be rec-dub-play. but the other features work like on the 720.
@Luke thanks. I got one about a year ago. It’s been great but not with distortion. I would try to loop a metal riff 2 or 3 times and it becomes staticy/noisy. But not a problem. Still works perfect while clean
@Luke yea I have an old 75 watt Line 6 for now. I’m considering the Horizon Devices Overdrive pedal. Full control and has a built in noise gate. That should help
Jeff Lumsden did you try to update the firmware? Mine stopped working at one point so I plugged into my laptop and updated the firmware from the TC site. Worth a try
Just get a volume pedal, then shape your sound with the rest of the effects such as: reverbe, delay, phaser, tremolo, chorus.... pitch pedals maybe like a octaver or pitch shifter. He looks like he's got a wahwah of some sort as well.
I have used DITTOx2 for years. I owned a couple of them in fact (because I sold it once to buy a better one but didn't work out). I can say with confidence that this is a totally unreliable looper. Especially in longer loops. So, for a loop of two minutes for example, the undo is not working properly (or not at all). Sometimes is doing some weird stuff just by itself, like it skips parts. It's not happening very frequently but enough to let you down at least once in every gig. The switches are terrible. They need contact spray every once in a while to function. The support is total garbage. They have absolutely no idea about it. It was very frustrating to try to explain to them basic functions of the looper... So stay away from DITTO
Ambient guys use it a lot. I want several loopers running out of sync long loops that start out with nothing on them, and then I can slowly add to them. Reverse is just another interesting flavour.

It's probably just clipping on whatever he's using to record.
My Ditto X2 died after less than a year. I was stuck between these 2 pedals, I chose wrong.
TC products warranty is up to 3 years........
Just bought the Ditto looper, amazing pedal! Me quedo con el Ditto sin duda weyes

Ehx confused me, very useful features but just didn’t gel with me. Maybe it’s looping that hasn’t gelled. Am going to try Ditto.

Nice video, most informative 'live use' vid on the 720 I've found. ☻
Please share your recording set up. Sounds great!
Great demo vid Dan the dude!
The E.H. Sounds much better. I Like your music.
Seems like the 720 allows more of backing track/loop to come through. Is this a Volume Setting variance or pedal fullness facet?

I can hear that noise in 720, ditto sounds more quiet?
I think the noise might be peaking on the signal when he used the 720, probably had the level set too high
I hear that noise too, I just bought one, I hope it is not noisy like that!!!
Agree, first thing I noticed when he switched on the ditto.
Thanks for the great review. Some people complain of latency with the EHX -- that it's trickier to time looping than other pedals. You don't seem to have any issues. Was it difficult to get the hang of the EHX? Do you still use the EHX?

the 720 sounded much more vibrant and true compared to the Ditto (but then, I've just bought a 720 so I might be a tad biased)

Late to the party, but it does. Also when recording loop/overdub, it's stored in reverse. And you can engage both effects at once.
MXR Clone Looper>?

Hey Dan, thanks for the review! Can you stop what you record and play it again after some minutes, with the 720 looper?
José Landabur Yes! Even if you stop it and unpower it would still be there next time you started the pedal up, it saves automatically
@@DanMuellerMusic OK! thank you for answering!

Any thoughts on the noise in the 720 vs the X2?
the sound quality on the 720 looper blows away the ditto, which imo is too dark, and or lacks high detail/frequencies
How do I get one of those loopers
Beautiful music you created for the demo....what effects did you use?
Yes, I also'd like to know! Just great! :)
Please, we need info on this!
How does the ditto handle distortion? With multiple loops. Does it just become a lot of noise?

Tascam 4 track lol
@Luke Thanks.
I tried a Ditto and it crapped out in just a few months. No word back from them. Fuck them, I'm getting the EHX
Call TC Electronic’s ass up. On the phone.
