    I have tried a lot of the Fujifilm XF lenses and almost didn't get this, as everyone says how big it is. I'm glad I went with my gut, it is absolutely amazing!

    Bit of a late reply. But have this on the xt5 now. I never liked the 18-55 (on x-s10, even more now xt5). This is a much better lens for me, and isnt a last resort like the 18-55 was. But it is much harder to be inconspicuous with this. Doesnt have the 'magic' of 35/f1.4 or 56/f1.2, but has its own great look.

      I was worried about the size as everyone talks about the size of this lens. It's not even that big, I was expecting 2x larger than it actually was when I got it.

    Nice one 👍
    I've got the 18-135. Its as good as the 18-55 any day of the week. Weather sealed, stabilised, fast enough focusing and a great focal range. I quite often opt to walk around with this lens on for its diversity and great image quality. In a recent trip to Isle of Wight I shot pretty much all of my walk around images with it, and only swapped out the lens to play with a couple vintage lenses that I'd taken.
    I picked up my version 2nd hand .... Best way to buy lenses in my opinion. I think I only paid about £350 or less.... bargain.

      @@erenjam if you can pick up a decent 2nd hand used one I would highly recommend it. If you buy used you can pretty much get your money back selling it on again if you decided it didn't cut the mustard for you. Just be mindful its not in the Red Badge Line Up of Lenses. Still good though. 🙂👍👋

      How does it do in low light?

  • @alanc6416
    @alanc6416 Год назад +1

    I personally like primes. I have the 16mm 1.4, 23mm 1.4, and the56mm 1.2, and I really love the image quality. However, I find myself bringing the X100V out almost exclusively nowadays, and when I need zoom, I leave all the fast primes at home and just use the 16-80. Additionally, the 56 1.2 is pretty difficult to focus on kids and moving objects wide open. So I ended up stopping down to 2.0 or 2.8 anyway. I used to bring the 16mm 1.4 for indoor gatherings, but again, nowadays I almost exclusively bring the X100V, sometimes with the WCL converter if I needed the wide angle. So the primes have become like trophies in the camera box at home. I sometimes wonder if I actually like shooting primes at all! 🤣
    This is the reason I might switch to the XT5 + XF16-55 F2.8 given there’s IBIS in that body now. When i needed the zoom, I can probably live with the extra weight. And when I go out and about, the compact X100V is still my first choice. So this might simplify my gear to X100V, and the XT5 + XF16-55, and possibly another tele zoom for the occasional wildlife photography.

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  Год назад

      sounds a great set up Alan!

    • @alanc6416
      @alanc6416 Год назад

      @@erenjam unfortunately, or fortunately I probably will keep the fast primes for now. I went and tested the 56 1.2 and 16mm 1.4 for a few days. And each scene I tested F4, 2.8, 2, and 1.4/1.2. I find that it’s not only the bokeh that the 1.2 brings, it felt as if FujiFilm deliberately left the natural vignette and falloff in the JPEGS so it gives the photos a very special, or even magical character that is difficult to emulate using software.
      And comparing the F4 and 2.8, the difference isn’t significant enough to make a switching decision, especially if the zoom is for my convenience only, mainly for travel and some kids sports photos (I’m not a professional). I’m probably gonna stick with the 16-80 or 18-55 in these situations.
      Right now, I might even wait until FujiFilm releases the new 40mp X100. If it has the same video specs and ibis as the XT5, it would be a really nice all in one camera for me.

    Great video as always Eren! Amazing lens indeed, such a fun to shoot(also one of very few fuji lenses that has perfect aperture ring resistance). Including image stabilisation would probably make it bigger, and I think It's on the edge of "all day" lens size already. And the focus clutch has one huge negative side, it doesn't let you pre-focus with AF button, because then scale would not match, MF with pre-focusing is so handy(and focus clutch lenses are focus by wire too BTW).

      Huge thanks Lukasz. Yh that makes sense. The IS may not have to be so extensive when working together with IBIS, that said I’ve managed to get decent footage handheld with the ibis + final cut stabilisation. Not walking though

    Excellent review, I picked up a 16-55 a couple of months ago and it’s hardly been off my camera. Using it for street and landscape, I’ve found the performance to be as good as the f2 primes. Yes it’s not exactly a small lens but the convenience of the zoom range makes it worth while. Only negative when the sun goes down f2.8 is too slow in some situations to tend to find I carry this and the 56/1.2 for low light.

    Great summary of a lens I also own and I’ve found it’s virtually made my 16mm f1.4 and 23mm f2 redundant! It’s just that good!
    With regards to the 18-135. I used to own this lens and maybe regret selling. It’s a great lens and super versatile. The type if you’re going in holiday with family and need a very versatile lens for “point and shoot”. I found my copy a little soft in the corners at certain ranges and aperture, but not to the point I was frustrated. I’ve heard later copies are better, but even if they aren’t, for the price, weight and versatility it’s bloody good!
    Quick questions -
    When you do street photography- what are your go to lenses?
    Towards the end when you were showing video shake on the x-pro2, what simulation was that? The colours were sublime

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  2 года назад +2

      on the x-pro I shoot with classic chrome but always in raw so most the photos I share here and on social are edited in LR.
      For street when im here in London I use the 23, 35 1.4 and the 50 f2. But when travelling more than happy to use the 16-55

      @@erenjam many thanks. How do you find the 35mm 1.4 as I’m torn between this and the f2. I love the idea of the older lenses and the character they bring with their rendition, but didn’t know if they still hold up in 2022?

  • @Termidryna

    I think 16-80 f/4 on the street at night is no unusable, you got image stabilization and if you shot with XT-4 you go it twice.

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  3 года назад

      It’s a good point , the stabilisation on that lens + xt4 is meant to be one the best on Fujifilm. At f4 I think it can be a little limiting when it comes to street photography in low light , but can always get creative with the handheld long expos!

    Hey Eren, amazing review. Thank you! Please help me. I can get the 16-55 at 637USD almost new and 16-80 at 517USD almost new too. I'm using an X-S10, I don't mind the weight and my main goal is quality photos, videos, and lifetime usage for trips, portraits, family, landscape, and street. I am also planning to get the 70-300mm in the future for my safari trips. I'm just planning to stick with just two lenses, a medium, and a telephoto. With a 120USD price difference, is it worth it to invest with the 16-55? And, if you'll only get one lens for the rest of your life, would you choose the 16-80 over the 16-55 due to its versatility? Thanks again and cheers!

    Hey man , I am becoming a big fan of your channel , 👍🏽!!! keep it up . I am an owner of this lens wit an X-T4. I do wish it had IS for video , but I have learned how make it work. I am thinking of buying the 50-140mm f2.8 and a 2nd X-T4 to use as 2nd camera angle for shooting sit down interviews and other studio stuff. But other than that I would not really use the 50-140 for other things. But since I also do need a macro lens for my production , I was thinking that maybe the 80mm macro could serve both roles , (be the B-camera close up lens for interviews and also serve for macro shots) What do you think ?

    Buenas Tardes! excelente vídeo, yo tengo el zoom en concreto y es estupendo, de hecho tiene ya unos años y voy a comprarme otro en muy breve tiempo.Pero querría hacerle una pregunta: El objetivo al montarlo en cualquier cuerpo X tiene una holgura que ya es bastante grande. La holgura la tiene desde el principio, yo he intentado apretar los tornillos, lo mandé a arreglar a la casa y me dijeron que habían apretado los tornillos también pero al montarlo en mis Fuji x sería con la misma holgura. No es culpa de las máquinas porque son varias, antiguas y nuevas... He visto por la red que hay personas que se quejan de lo mismo. Bueno! en definitiva ¿sabe si es un defecto de fabricación? ¿repito la compra? Salvo esto el objetivo e parece una maravilla.
