      This seems to be the bit they don't understand. Export takes time and paperwork so when their fish arrive in the EU they aren't as fresh so they get less money but the transport costs are higher. All they say is we want to catch more fish that we can't sell. The UK fishing industry is basically buggered especially since the no deal with Norway so almost all the cod in the UK will come from Norway. Fish and Chips just got a lot more expensive. Idiots.

      @Kenneth Perry Tantrum? The only tantrum we hear comes from the UK. They go for a trade deal, which they next renege. The reason? They cannot read or understand that the UK is a 3rd country and not part of the EU anymore. So they cannot have their cake and eat it...as Mr Bojo stated. It seems that the entire entourage of Brexiters lacks few days of the week in their head.

      @Diarmaid O'Riordan It's not the EU that strips the UK (funny you write England not UK) of its services industry it's Brexit that does it.
      The EU is a club which protects its members and fights for its members, the UK is not a member anymore and therefor treated as everybody else outside of the club.
      Most of the laws and regulations now applying for the UK where implemented and some even proposed by the UK when it was a member (the rules regarding the import of shellfish is a good example of a regulations the UK was huge in favour of when it was a member, now it shoots them in the foot).
      The EU has offered the UK solutions even regarding the service industry but all was denied due to the UK's red lines as it would have required free movement of services, good and (now the red line) people, which the UK denied.
      The UK has a FT regarding fish for example the only thing the fishermen did not get was a massive increase of their quotas but all of that does not help as they are now not a member of the single market anymore and have to do the paperwork that did not exist when they where in the EU.
      There is nothing outside of re-joining the customs union or the single market that would get rid of the red tape again. Something the current UK government does not want.
      In short it's all just self harm.

    • @xml571
      @xml571 3 года назад

      @Diarmaid O'Riordan Irish? Love your country lived there for 4 years
      And yes, the Banks and insurance firms want to trade with the EU as the UK did not negotiate any deal for them (the want to deregulate and create a finance/tax haven) so they need to find replacement for London.
      Can only be good for Ireland in many ways. If it becomes the new financial trade hub in the EU its power grows and if it is just one of the new financial trade hubs in the EU it still becomes more powerful/influencial!
      Ireland has become much more independent from trade with the UK after joining the EU it was 80% of Irelands trade in the 80th and if I remember right only 18% back in 2018.
      But I would not sign any document with this numbers they are only just out of my head from what I think I remember.

    • @xml571
      @xml571 3 года назад

      @Diarmaid O'Riordan yeah the trade will still exists momentarily even without most of the red tape the UK suffers as it has not implemented much of the needed customs checks yet. But yeah in the future it will be a pain in the ass like it already is for the British.
      I still think Ireland will benefit from bexit as now biggest English speaking country in the EU. US investors might more likely to go to Ireland than to any other country in the EU due to the language!
      Dublin got the biggest gain in financial corporations "moving out" of the UK into the EU followed by Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam

    What these people don't understand is the simple difference between being an EU member and just a 3rd country.
    As a 3rd country you may have full control over your fishing grounds but does that matter if you cannot sell or export the fish you catch?
    The current situation was caused by an utter failure of understanding the actual rules and regulations governing trade being a member of EU compared to not being an EU member.

Move your business to the EU, or accept responsibility and losses. And maybe vote for Leave again, this time in Indy2Ref. Might take a few years before Scotland manages to (re)join the EU Single Market (at least), though.

    It wasn't hard to work out that that about 70-80 % of UK fisheries exports to the EU were potentially at risk with brexit by putting any barriers in the way of your markets with one of the bosses having to open a place in France to get around the problems, so that means the French have gained jobs probably at the expense of British jobs. As regards the one who's optimistic I wonder how he is now with the latest calamitous deal with Norway his fellow brexiteers in government have made a mess of.

It's not about more fish, it's about the pre-existing regulations that the UK, as EU members, helped to draw up! If you're a third country you have to expect to be treated as one. no deal would mean that you are not allowed to sell anything in the EU. The food sector within the EU is subject to strict regulations, the quality and quantity of the products that can be imported are clearly regulated. Without a deal, all goods from this area would be intercepted and confiscated at customs. As a small example, if you cross the EU border from a third country without a corresponding agreement and have a few sandwiches with you as travel provisions, they will be confiscated and disposed of at customs, cause you are not allowed to import this goods. That´s not a joke, there is even a video on RUclips where you can see this happen to a brit crossing the border to the Netherlands.

  • @martinlund7987
    @martinlund7987 Год назад

    This is the logical outcome of Brexit.
    The U.K. does not eat most of the fish in its own warming fisheries = have to export.
    E.g. in 2019 U.K. fishers landed 3x more mackerel or 1.5x mass herring than the combined weight of all Cod and Haddock.
    The U.K.'s own consumers demand fish that now mostly are moving further and further north, out of the U.K. fisheries (ie COD).
    So when deintegrating from the EU fishery arrangements, there is simply no logical upside. From both perspectives, the U.K. fisheries are in the weaker bargaining position.
    The alternative is to change the U.K.'s tastebuds, good luck with that.

    UK fishing can only survive if it’s inner market grows. The EU market will dwindle and then disappear, for one reason alone, cost. It takes time to build new partners and for contracts to end, and once those periods pass,, then the EU will buy its fish from cheaper sources. So, these fishermen can fight (struggle is a better word) all they want, but if they don’t find a market for their goods, then their business is dead.

    It's an industry of £450 million out of Trillions. I think someone said about 0.1% of the UK economy. Most of the money made by a handfull of very wealthy families. So neither the government or the population really cares. The fishing industry's "vision" was a fantasy encouraged by politicians willing to lie to them. The fishing industry choose to believe some quite incredible things about international customs law and procedures. In full, that they could completely exclude other countries from their territorial waters while continuing to access those countries waters. Then still trade with the EU members and circumvent international customs checks enabling them to trade "fresh" fish. As someone who work on and ran customs post on the EU-Russian border I can say what they believe still is impossible. There is no "fix" no negotiable solution possible.
    If they are absolutely depending on some "fix" then they are sunk.
