    Just because the cap went up 5 million it doesnt mean you can afford to give every one of your players a raise when they come up for renewal. Unfortunately Marners agent put Marner in a bad spot by negotiating a 6 yr deal that expires after Matthews and Nylander get their new deals. The Agent should have negotiated a shorter deal to match Matthews contract timeline or an 8 year deal to give more breathing room between Mathews and his client. Which would then mean there is more money available to negotiate for with the team. But the cap space and team structure currently just wont allow for the Leafs to sign another big ticket player at 12 to 13 Million. And for that reason alone I dont think Marner and the Leafs will be together at the end of next season.

    I'm with Sammy on Darnell Nurse's contract.
    They paid him $9.25m like a number one defenseman, and he's not even on the first pairing.
    Teams won't pay that much for a shutdown defensemen who gets burnt on as many plays as he does.

    People will sell out Scotiabank whether Marner is there or not. A few fans will be mad but still go to games and buy merch. The Leafs could have a team of Corpses and fans would still shell out money to see them

    Why would a GM trade for Marner when they can sign him for free next year? Given Marner's present contract and his expectations for the next contract, the Leafs will either get nothing or have to pay for a team to trade him. The "win" for the Leafs in a Marner trade is the cap relief.

    Might be wrong with this, but as a Panthers follower, giving 9.5M times 8 to Reinhart would be a mistake. 8M or 8.5M should be the max for their cap to be flexible enough for next season. Is he a big part of the team, yeah. But he also had a carreer year. He wasn't as good in the playoffs, so his salary should reflect his ability, not what he just did. Especially for 8 years. 2 more depth guys would be far better than overpaying Reinhart. Just look at what Stenlund did for the Panthers these playoffs.

    Some people are bad at math. With Tavares deal over next year that means core 2 after next year if you trade Marner. Try and win with two star players wonder how that will work out… the only way I want to see a Marner trade is if they WIN the trade. If not, it’s just desperation and bad asset management. Win the trade or no trade. Very simple. Remember the Hall trade? Kadri trade? Joe Thornton to Sharks? Want more examples? Just look at Leafs history for lots of examples. That’s what happens when you trade a star player and lose the trade. You trade to win the trade. Teams that do this push the needle and actually improve their team.

    • @disinformationworld9378
      @disinformationworld9378 Месяц назад +1

      As Frank said Marner is a top 15 player. Going to be hard to win that trade unless it’s a lot of good young, cheap talent coming back.

    • @gylduran9217
      @gylduran9217 Месяц назад +2

      so you would rather the Leafs get nothing for him than get at least something even if they don't "win" the trade? 🤣that sounds dumb to me. They will run it back this year, and Marner and Tavares will walk in 2025 freeing up the 22 mil. The Leafs will have 52 million in cap space that year if the cap goes up by the same amount again...this is the most likely scenario imo

    It's kind of a stupid topic and meaningless but Mitch Marner is in no way a Top 15 player in the world. He's just not. And with guys like Suzuki, Forsberg, Dobson, JT Miller, Larkin either really coming into their own or coming of age he's not even all that close to a Top 15 guy. He's the third best forward on his own team...

      @johncOU812 can't pay everyone 13 million you run out of money fast. He'll play out the year and see where the money goes cap wise. If it goes up over 90 then 13 looks a bit better over 8 years. Nurse is on a big deal so is conner and the new guy aswell. I do agree with that number after the cap goes up. Peace ✌️ 😎.

    When talking about Marner, Marner is one of the most important, pivotal playmaker, powerplay and forechecker that the Maple Leafs have, how about talking about Tavares, as good of a player he is, he really hasn't proved anything since coming here, what has he got to show for except, not getting past the first round or getting past the 1st round to get into the 2nd only to get put out. Like a chain, you have to get rid of the weakest links. He's a great asset, look what you can get back for him, like a top 4 D. I'm sure teams would be interested in him. Tavares was one of the talking points at some point on the show during the past 8 or 9 years. Food for thought 🤔. 🇨🇦🍁🏒🥅👌👍
