  • If it’s socially acceptable for people to identify as a different gender, would the same logic apply to choosing a different race? Aldo asks students at UCLA what they think and whether there’s a double standard when it comes to “blackface” vs. “woman-face.”

@@etchalaco9971 @Gabe Poirot Not arguing whether you should agree with transgender or not, you believe whatever you want. However what this guy is asking is also non-sense, and the two things are completely different subjects.
Being a certain gender involves hormones, chromosomes, on someone's views on their own and others' bodies, among other ways but in a sexual way most of the time; the very sexual expression of a person, in a society where sex is still a taboo. The concept of gender is real in nature and there is a difference between them.
"Race" on the other hand, is not a thing in our case, and historically was used exclusively as a means of segregation. The only race is the human race. On the other hand, ethnicity and phenotypes do exist, but these are simply an external expression of the small adaptations to the environment or ancestrality throughout time. But for all intents and purposes our bodies work the same internally, which is not the case when talking about gender and sexual dysmorphism.
That is why there is no such thing as "womanface" - yes I bet many people are "fake" transgender trying to gather sympathy online - but there are people who can actually have biological issues with their gender. Hermaphroditism is a medical condition for example.
But "blackface" is a thing, because also historically it was used as entertainment by mocking and caricaturizing black people in circuses and etc. For centuries, and still today in many aspects, there was a power dynamic between white and black people, and blackface is the reminder that "hey, we think you are funny/stupid/animals so let's make fun of it because we can".
There's nothing biological about identifying as a skin color, this is a physical characteristic that we can all see in plain sight if it makes sense or not. You cannot know how a transgender person feels inside though - some of them really have aversion to their biological reproductive organ and don't want to see or touch it, nor anyone else to do so. Hormones can be working differently so they have more/less traits of a certain gender. They could be diagnosed with hermaphroditism.
TL;DR: Blackface is a historical nod to racism. Skin color, culture and ethnicity are simply external manifestations of the environment. This is not the case when talking about genders, which truly can be a biological mismatch, so they have nothing to do with each other.

This is how I feel with these gender conversations. Everyone think's they know more about gender than you but when you fire one question at them they fall to pieces. Like people say sex is biological. They aint talking about sex they're talking about gender which is something else. But then they have gender reconstructive surgery. Why? If being a woman has zero to do with your biology then why change your biology? Also if gender is a feeling they why take hormones that are designed to change your feelings? I'm on board with anyone who wants to live their life any way they want but I just cant seem to get straight answers on anything from this topic.

Both have components that are biological & components that are social constructs/cultural.
So it seems that someone can identify with feeling connected to feminine "constructs" & culture such as stereotypically feminine clothes, traits, etc. and someone can identify with feeling connected to a certain race's culture such as their traditional music, fashion, etc.
At the same time, even if someone feels more comfortable with & connected to feminine culture, they can't necessarily say they're a biological female (unless they are, via sex rather than via gender). Similarly, even if someone feels more comfortable with and connected to a certain race, they can't necessarily claim that they are that race (unless they are biologically by skin color, life experience in that race, etc.).
It would SUCK to be more connected & comfortable with something that you biologically aren't, so I do feel bad for anyone who feels that type of disconnect. I can understand why they'd want so badly for that to be affirmed. I also, however, see how people can be angry about this & call it hypocrisy. A lot to think about, here.

As a black woman- if a white person wants to say they're black, they should be able to, but people usually won't be okay with it. Why? Because things like race and gender are completely made-up labels. Scientists who study genes will tell you that race isn't actually based on biology -- it's a social thing we created to group people by how they look. But most people have been brainwashed into thinking that race is something based on our genes, which isn't true- race is a social construct. So by society’s current rules- we aren’t allowed to change this social construct, but really we should- because it’s completely made up.
Also, it can be disrespectful in our society with the current rules to have people change their “race” because many people have suffered and died just because of the made-up category (i.e race) they are put into by society based on solely how they look. To say you are part of a different “race” just because you feel like it, ignores the harsh reality of those who were forced into that label through no choice of their own and treated terribly as a result-so it isn't considered right thing to do.
Figuring out the whole sex/gender thing took me a long time to make sense in my head-so here is how it finally made sense for me. In our society, we've decided that XY and XX means male or female. While XX and XY chromosomes are about genetics, the idea of gender - how we act and what it means - is all made up by us. Just because you have an XY chromosome doesn't mean you can't wear dresses, like pink, or cry. All those things are taught to us by society as children, but it is not tied to your biology. Can you change your 23rd pair of chromosomes (XX and XY)? No, you can't. But can you change your gender - a completely made-up category by humans? Sure! Why not? Your actual genes and how you decide to express your gender are two separate things.
Lastly, I'd like to touch on the subject of sports. I hold the view that sports categories shouldn't be determined by gender, but by the 23rd pair of chromosomes individuals possess. Biologically speaking, individuals with XY chromosomes (categorized in the human-created gender category of males) - are generally larger, stronger, and have bigger hearts. They also produce significantly more testosterone, which contributes to their physical advantage and is how winners of sports are generally chosen. So that is when I think what your chromosomes are should come into play. But beyond the sphere of sports and individualized medicine based on that person's genetics by their doctor, I maintain that a person's genetics and the gender they choose to identify themselves should not be an issue in any other aspect of life because it doesn't matter.

So unless we live in a Nazi Germany style of oppressive society that dictates we have to walk. talk, act, and dress in one way or another because of our birth sex, then yes; people can swap gender at the drop of a hat. They believe they can achieve new life by changing gender, because your original gender has a record of bad experience. People with high expectation that failed with their natural self are seeking new oppertunity by changing "gender". And its actually working. You cant joke about them, you cant criticize them, they will support you no matter what as long as you are part of lgbtq. The irony is that they are actually seeking acceptance in society. To the point that they will join lgbtq to feel the family they always wanted, to be told how brave they are, to be told how great they are. Even cutting their body parts is nothing to them as long as they can profit from it - emotionally or socially. Perhaps, but quite a low bar for college students. We would expect kids starting in middle schools to be able to discuss without throwing tantrums.

😂 this is the best interview because the mental calculus these kids are going through once their hypocrisy is called out illustrates how utterly disconnected from reality people have become in this society.

I guess the difference is that race is much more personal than gender.. everywhere in the world you have male and female.. but race is connected to a country/culture/tribe, which makes it much personal, and we take it more seriously.

Education is certainly no equivocation to knowledge or understanding. These days, education is basically indoctrination. Being an auto-didact is almost the only way to keep your head straight these days.

@@dreiprada4679 I've been trolling the internet for months for someone to actually explain that. So what is gender then? What is a woman? If you identify as something, you must be able to explain what it is. If not, then you're just talking shit. "I feel like a woman". Fine... What is it about your feelings that makes you a woman?
