I’ve always resisted routines when I was younger because I felt like if I preplanned my day and every day was the same then I was somehow wasting my time by not being present. It’s only recently when I moved into a more managerial role at work that I have accepted the power of having a good routine. The real benefit of a good routine is that it allows you to squeeze so much more value out of the rest of your time, and it prepares you to take better advantage of opportunities that present themselves.

I totally have a morning routine now. It's something that I never did have for years. I used to wake up and frantically run out of the house and quite often be late. Nowadays that doesn't happen because of a routine I've set up. Funny thing is though I didn't intend to set up a routine, it was just a natural progression. Because of the routine it sets me up for a day of low stress instead of instant cortisol. In fact the rare times that I feel stressed these days, I totally hate the feeling. I realize now that I was a cortisol junkie, and I thrived on it. My morning routine has helped stave that off. This routine really sets me up for a great day by not only getting me to work on time, giving me a buffer for traffic and giving me time to decompress before the day after my 1 hour drive. I actually look forward to my morning routine these days which includes usually listening to a new episode of minepump on my Drive In in the morning. When there isn't a new podcast available, I sometimes will check out other like-minded information or usually delve deeper into the back mind pump catalog. That's incredibly useful for me especially when I want to research a topic more in depth and will relisten to several of your clips or full podcasts about the subject. A morning routine cannot be underestimated as it is so powerful a tool. And my night time routine in which I prepare my supplements for the next day and add my electrolytes to my water for work have become essential to me as well. As always thanks for what you do, and thank you for being an essentially important part of my morning routine. So much so that I have replaced my social media addiction with the focus mind pump provides. I will only briefly check my social media if I have a few minutes before work starts after I get there. While I still have to deal with emails and notifications and other things, they tend to be less important and I just filter through them at a few moments throughout the day rather than starting my day with it and then being glued to my phone or tablet throughout the rest of the day, which also was not very productive for work.

Mind pump sells workout programs and yet they are giving people advise on how to create their own perfect routine. This just shows how much mind pump really cares about getting people healthy rather than selling out and selling people programs simply on before and after pics.

"Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent." I've taught this to my children and to the kids that I've coached. If you consistently practice a routine it will become permanent. If you practice chaoticness and disorder that will become permanent. Thanks for another great show guys.

You guys have changed my life. I’ve been fumbling my way through working out for almost a decade with limited success. I’ve been listening to you guys everyday and working my way through past episodes for a few months now. I started MAPS Anabolic two months ago and have never seen results like this. I’m feeling more confident in the gym from your coaching on form and am seeing massive strength gains and muscle growth. I was unsure if this was just in my head or for real when all of the sudden I started getting several comments from coworkers who could see a difference and even my in-laws dropping comments to my wife.
One of the biggest changes in my perspective towards working out was just to keep my weight down. I have had a number on the scale that I was terrified of hitting. My workouts were focused on keeping my weight below that number. You guys have given me the permission I needed to let go of that number and feel free to gain weight. I’ve gone past that number and am yet the fittest I have been since high school.
I’m looking forward to progressing through your programs, and am excited to see what this next year has in store for me and my fitness. Thank you guys for all that you do.

Routines are so important! I've found the same that if I stay off my phone in the morning my screen time for that day is lower. Also journaling has been incredible for for me. I remember hearing about a study that found that journalling for only 3 consecutive days showed an increase in well being 3 months later. I've found journaling everyday to be as empowering as a sticking to a good exercise program.

Excellent show guys! Couldn't agree more with the routines! Took me a few years to realise the importance of having a routine but I've now got my mornings down. 4:45am wake up, brush my teeth, grab my lunch, have my pre-workout and head off to gym for 1.5 hours then off to work for the day. Still not got my evenings sorted yet, bit sporadic as I'm renovating the house before my baby is born in July so it's pure chaos right now but still trying to get to sleep by 9pm. Just having my morning's sorted has made them so much easier, same with having my current workout programme. 6 day PPL split, everything from excercises to sets/reps and rest times down for each day and it makes getting through the workout much easier as well as seeing better results! You guys hit the nail on the head every time, Kepp up the good work Blokes!

One of the best things about getting into a routine is the way it sets you up and keeps you going. When you get a routine going, even a small one, it’s like decluttering your brain. You set yourself up and it’s less you have to stress about. There’s also a neat compounding effect, where you might start with a small routine everyday and find that you add to it without realizing. You end up creating a positive feedback loop for yourself which ends up making you more satisfied and fulfilled with life, and makes it easier to deal with the little B.S. things we deal with everyday.

What I love about listening to these guys is that it reminds me that just because I have a lot of experience lifting weights doesn't mean that I know everything. I developed a morning routine back when I was at university. My housemates would usually go to bed at like 2 in the morning whilst I was usually trying to sleep by 11 or so and so I'd naturally wake up a good 2-3 hours before them the next morning. The quiet, peace and stillness I found being the first one up in the house is something I still highly value to this day. I wake up around 7am and wash my face and brush my teeth, then go and start making my morning Coffee. Then I either go sit in the garden (if the weather is nice) or sit on the sofa and listen to mind pump (or an audiobook) whilst sipping on the coffee. It's my favourite time off the day, it's just me. The world outside is still quiet and I can truly focus on myself and setting myself right for the day. I also wake up around 2-3 hours before I go to work now so I can do the same thing. I'll never understand people who wake up, grab their phones and start scrolling social media or texting people whilst laying in bed. It makes me anxious just thinking about it lol. I'm definitely enjoing this time as much as I can before I have children!

He did take my advice I got from Mind Pump and he replaced a steady state cardio session with a more HIIT inspired session and has loved it.

Love this episode. You guys have been fundamental in turning around my mind set recently. Like many people I was so focussed on weight and not eating enough and I finally put it aside, stopped weighing so much and started training right. Working from home for 2 years now has really driven me to build a routine that works for me- working out first thing, eating a good breakfast in the morning, prepped healthy lunches and then Mobility, skin care and meditation before bed. Recently this has had to flex and adapt with the arrival of my little boy but luckily my wife understands how these routines help me and really helps me stick to it, and vice versa.
When it comes to tasks and work routines, I have had great success with the Pomodoro method for longer tasks - 25 mins focused work, 5 mins break which becomes a 30 min break every 4th - really helps me get through those longer tasks at work!

Love this! I have always prescribed the notion that discipline equals freedom. This means that when you train yourself in such a way, you have the ability to understand when to say yes or no. If you are a slave to something, you do not have the freedom to choose. But are bound to the thing that or system because you are a slave. “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” - Hebrews 12:11

The importance of routines cannot be overstated for me, the only way I was able to stay consistent in the gym was to give the rest of my daily tasks more structure. Trying to balance work, diet, workouts and family time is a lot but I definitely think this episode will help me take my progress in this aspect one step further! Best overall health content on the internet period.

The wisest thing that should be on everyone mind currently should be to invest in different streams of income that doesn't depend on the govt. Especially with the current economic crisis around the word. This is still a good time to invest in Gold, silver and digital currencies(BTC, ETH..).

The sleep routine is literally the biggest game changer in my day to day to life. Once I eleminated all electronics from that space, filled it with books and notebooks, turned the temparature in the room down, my sleep improved overnight (pun intended.) And that fed into more productive and active days, my steps skyrocketed from 3-5k average to 8-12k and made more progress on projects than I was in the past. It's incredible how all the things my parents told me to do, that I ignored because it was 'stupid and boring,' now lead to a better life.
Can't foresake the wisdom of good parents

Another home run fellas! I totally believe in routine. I need it to get my 5pm MAPS Power Lift sessions in 5 days a week. but I didn't really think about food prepping / planning as a routine for the whole week. Really helpful message. Adam got me with the comment "You're really not taking it seriously if you can't even meal prep". That one hit home.
"Look, if you like my information head over to the like button and pick my comment!!"
