If it’s not written down it’s not a rule.

Do not start packing up equipment when ahead late in the game... the baseball Gods definitely frown on this and will come back to bite you hard!

Don’t step on the chalk lines is common curtesy. Someone was there 45 minutes earlier making the chalk lines.

Regarding the "don't step on the line", originally I wonder if it is out of respect for the grounds crew.

The lines used to be drawn with lime, not chalk...so u burn you feet.

This is my first year coaching my son team. I always helped out in all his practice and games but this year it’s official assistant coach. I am guilty of calling the umpire blue, even some of the past coaches called them blue. I think it’s a good example for the coaches to call them by there name as a sign of respect. Even if the umps are younger teens.

Don't step on the lines has to do with chalk lines. If a player steps on the line the line breaks down, so the ump can't see (as easily) if a ball is fair or foul if the line is blurry. Now everybody is playing on turf these days and it doesn't matter as much.

I’m having a hard time watching baseball at the college level and below. For example. Not sure if you saw the grand slam by Tennessee over Missouri. It’s beyond a bat flip now. And then the next batter threw a fit for a called strike one that clearly was a strike. And my son who plays highschool. I had to police called on me this summer because I wasn’t going to back down to some obnoxious parents defending their kids after disrespecting the game. Why do we see this at the lower levels but then when you’re called up it’s not tolerated?

Don't swing on 3-0 count late in the game and up by however many runs. Learned that one watching Tatis.

I’m not sure it’s an unwritten rule and it’s probably more for high school maybe college. But trying to get a double on a foul ball. Don’t run when you foul a ball straight back!!

Funny, i played since 8 years old, and even then never stepped on the line just because i didnt want to mess it up. Never did it ever. Not even by accident.

I grew up watching the Tigers. It was definitely Sparky Anderson and the foul line. I made my son, who plays 10U travel ball now, watch a few classic games. One was the 84 Tigers and one The Big Red Machine. He never steps on a line outside of play.

My son made me enact a new one this last fall season. Playing 10U club ball, he struck out twice all fall and both times were intentional. With one or more runners on, less than 2 outs, down 2 strikes, instead of battling through the at-bat, on one the pitcher threw a wild pitch way outside, the other it was higher than high over the umps head, he took the ugliest late hacks at both, just enough of a swing to get the bat across the plate tossing the bat, while simultaneously busting out of the box to reach first on a dropped third strike, knowing they aren’t going to make a play on him with the other runner(s) moving too. After the first one I told him someone is going to plunk you for that and never do it again. Later in the season after he did it again, I was coaching first base next to the other team’s coaches, I told them to remember his number and put one on him next time up. They wouldn’t do it but he deserved it in my opinion. A pitcher gets you down 0-2 or 1-2 and throws a waste pitch, on purpose or accident, you owe him an honest chance to end that at-bat. Win or lose, just finish the plate appearance clean. Would be different if he whiffed at a nasty change in the dirt for strike 3 and reached. Just feels cheap as hell to me to strikeout on purpose and reach like that.

I'm sorry. But if you are pitching a no hitter against my team, why would we want to allow it to happen? 10-0 or 1-0 i dont care what the score is. Why just give up and allow it to happen? break it up and not become a footnote in history. Why sit back and say oh he has a no hitter. we should just go out and not try and be a part of history. stupid!!!!

Unwritten rule or not, you tell me: don't cross in front of the catcher to get in the batter's box. So if you're a righty coming from the 1st base dugout or a lefty coming from the 3rd base dugout...walk around. As a catcher, I can't stand that. To me, it feels like someone coming into my house and putting their feet up on the furniture. Just rude.
