ugh, this video is new. now i gotta come back in 12 months. I love the mycology field of study. (free studies via youtube, lol) but Mushroom farming seems so cool. i hope the recyclable bio plastics from shrooms takes off.
It would be so cool to make one of these as big as possible. Like with a tree with a huge diameter, stacked super tall with many sections. Like a mushroom totem pole.
Good question! The bag should be closed, but not 100% airtight - tying a knot at the top does it. This will allow enough air for colonization since not much fresh air is needed during that stage. Additionally, a ton of moisture and CO2 is retained, which facilitates this vegetative growth. After a few months, once the pillar is enveloped in white (or mostly), you’ll be taking the bag off and introducing fresh air that will induce fruiting 🙂
Thank you for the question! Different mushrooms like different types of wood, so we created a little cheat sheet to identify the best types of wood for each! northspore.com/pages/grow-mushrooms-on-logs-videos
Will the paper bags hold up for 4 to 12 months? Where can I get bags like that? I have hella logs on my property. Also, I'm in love with your monotub!! I bought two of the big ones and they are so perfectly designed!! ❤

going to try this with Oak logs where i live thank you man
Yea its so simple to grow. People just overthink the process, gotta be patient and leave it alone!
Great idea

I'm down. Let's do it!
Can you do that here in AZ it’s too dam hot maybe monsoon season 🤔🤔
Yes you can, though I would recommend waiting until fall / early winter!
If it's kept in a sealed bag will there be problems with air exchange? I thought they need fresh oxygen to grow.

Does it matter what type of tree logs to use?

If the logs are old, chances are mycelium is already growing inside. You need somewhat freshly cut timber
Any issues with them falling over?
Not really, be sure to set them up in a stable spot 🙂
Question, 1 are they psilocybin mushrooms and 2 what about contamination problems?
They are not psilocybin mushrooms and contamination is far less likely outdoors (and depends on species)!
Mycelium grows on logs, wood, tree stumps, damp wood naturally in a natural environment. I have mushrooms growing on a stump in my driveway.
That's awesome! Have you tried cultivating them yourself?
Oh to be a smooshed mushroom source
following
Linus?
lol
Literally came here to say this 😅
