- Sometimes I look for video opportunities, other times video opportunities find me. I managed to capture Waikanae Volunteer Fire Brigade's siren sounding from fairly close range, set off to call-out firefighters to a vegetation fire.
assuming you also live in new zealand, i have something to ask of you. if you ever visit wellington, can you look through the northern suburbs? there is a fire siren somewhere but i don'y know where it is, i've been looking through it so much, but i just can't seem to find it. it is somewhere in the johnsonville - newlands area i think
Hi, I actually live in Wellington (specifically Porirua). I know that there used to be a siren at the old Newlands Fire Station, but this was removed when that station closed two years ago to make way for the new park. I'm not aware of any sirens in that area now.
@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923yeah ik about how it got removed due to the building of pukehuia park being underway, but once i was at school like 2 weeks ago and i heard it go off
Another chance encounter! Amazing siren!
You are correct with the age. This one was put on the pole last October.
Another case of being in the right place at the right time. Pleased you got this one, Im not gonna lie, I have been secretly hoping this would happen to one of us on a trip to Waikanae. I go up there a fair bit as i know someone who lives up there, So i was hoping i could get it as well, But haven't been lucky yet lol.
Mate, what did you use to record that, the zoom is crazy
Sony CX405
When I was little we had this siren in Christchurch city
Then they stopped using it
So do you know why the siren is not at the
Fire Station
Awesome love it 😊
I like sirens and one day do rangiora fire siren
I wonder where the other Waikanae Fire Brigade siren is located
It is on a smaller pole by the community hall in Rauparha street.
@@johnsimpson8263 cool
@@johnsimpson8263 I take it you know the area quite well in that case. Out of curiosity, Do you know anything about the 3rd siren in the town?? Located on Weggery Drive next to where the river walkways start and the Otaihanga Domain, Believe it is some sort of Civil Defense siren. I have always wanted to know weather that one still operates, Or is it no longer in use.
@@Jamie-Tane-media To the best of my knowledge FENZ only have two sirens in Waikanae, so you are probably correct about the third being a civil defence siren. Can't say I have seen that one.
@@johnsimpson8263 The thrid one is an electronic siren (Whelen?), rather than a mechanical siren, which is why we think it is Civil Defence, as FENZ requires all of their sirens to be mechanical.
Question, is a siren able to go off in the middle of the night?
Varies from station to station. Some fire stations use their sirens 24/7, others don't. Often depends how reliable their pager system is, among other factors.
Hi NF, our siren doesn't go during the night. Brigade is AMS/pager only
Our one does Marton Voulntere fire service
As someone who lives in waikanae yes it can happen but no where near as often
Ours just went off at 10:50 PM in Helensville north west Auckland. I’ve never heard it this late.
Was the siren a real callout?
Yes, says what for on screen at the beginning.
Voluntary fire brigades need sirens as of not being real firefighters and therefore not connected to the emergency landline 111
Do you know what’s going on with NZ Lifts? He’s been inactive for a very long time now.
Not a clue. I have not been in contact with him on any other platform outside RUclips. I assume he's taking time out. I can't blame him right now, given that the lift enthusiast community on RUclips is not exactly a great place to be these past few months, thanks to what's gone down in the UK.
@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 Do you have Discord or an email, Alex? I’ve got some stuff which I think you may be interested in.
@@Lift.Tracker Hi, I'm not on discord, but you can email me at: koneecodisc@gmail.com
@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 Did you get my email?
@@Lift.Tracker Yes, but I am at work. I will respond when I have time.
What does the old black one sound like
It sounds like a siren.
Where is the Fire Siren in waikanae
Te moana road
Half way down Te moana road near the expressway
Makes a good flood siren
How old is the Siren now?
Well, if it was installed in 2020, and it is now 2021....do the maths.
One years old!
Now it's 2-years-old
didn't even think we had sirens lol
There's another one by Waikanae Beach as well.
@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 theres an air raid siren near waterloo train station its standing but not operating
@@mermaidfan2420 You may well have found one of the Lower Hutt Civil Defence Sirens - and it's one I haven;t found yet. Can you please give me some more specific info as to where it is near Waterloo?
Is it in London or in New Zealand?
@@laurenloukinen5425 New zealand.
Carrel electrade siren
Nope, not this one. This is a PSL Firemaster, as written in the title. Nothing to do with Carrel Electrade.
@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923The Carrels are all-grey, as opposed to this PSL with a blue middle I believe.
