OMG, OMG, O… M… G!!!! You guys have a team to wash and clean your buses? Here in Australia at my company and every company I’ve worked for, is drivers have to wash and clean our buses inside and out - sweeping, mopping, sanitising, cleaning windows, washing the exterior, squeegeeing the outside of the windows and cleaning up any rubbish inside. Sign me up!!! 😀
Come over and work for us! You'll have to get used to the steering wheel being on the other side of the bus lol 🤣
Hi James. I flew for a private jet charter company for 13 years. Most of the positions cross over. Actually the similarities all around are quite striking. Thanks for another great vid.
You should also mention that mechanics and cleaning crew typically work the night and overnight since during the day, most buses are out on the road. Dispatcher or somebody, needs to be on call 24hours in case something happens on the road. These are tough jobs.
Hey FLH. Thanks for commenting. Yes in the videos I mentioned in this video I go into the hours of the wash crew. Our mechanics however work during the day..
James, I really appreciate your perspective in many of your videos appreciating and stressing the importance of regular worker-bees to the success of Peoria Charter. Sounds like there is a top management culture of "servant leadership." Thank you for sharing that perspective.
Thanks for this video James. It really is a "team" effort. I have worked with/for family owned bus companies all my life. They understand all aspects and challenges of the business (as well as a lot of ones we don’t know about). As a tech and maintenance director, I have seen my share of deadlines and frustration, and our team always seem to get it done. For that I am proud of them. Thanks again. Stay Safe. Rick
Hey Rick! Thanks my friend! Appreciate the comment! A good team is the most valuable thing!
My "bus company" has a driver, CEO, lead mechanic, apprentice mechanic, facility manager, tool procurer, tool maintainer, inventory manager, parts procurer, bus cleaner, media manager, and baclava eater....and Im all of them! lol.
My fleet only does shows though, no pax. In fact, I have to finish up retooling the shop, and get to revamping brakes on Olivia!
To James:
Cool episode again!. Brought back a lot of memories when I was driving coaches. We also had safety inspectors, that would drive around following buses to make sure they were safe, as well as undercover passengers, to make sure fairs were pocketed. We had a few drivers that would run a line, jammed packed with standees and all, yet only brough in 100 bucks lol.
Hey Its always great to hear from you! Thanks for the comment. I really want to see you drive your Romanian bus around again! I see you got rid of all of your hair! LOL and I love your new intro!
From my observations watching your videos Peoria Charter and it’s employees are very fortunate to have James in upper level management. You are an amazing representative of your company. Your videos are so very informative, and your personality is priceless. Upward and onward sir.
Hi Richard. Thank you for your kind words. A appreciate it!
Congratulations on having a diverse workforce and a great company culture. Peoria Charters is a company I would certainly want to work for.
Thank you John! We are definitely not perfect but we do try and we try to keep our employees happy!
So much work goes into one trip. This video has inspired me to showcase my company. Thanks James!
Thanks Captain John! I look forward to watching that!
Great videos
Awesome Channel !!💯💯

Cool I'm in that town it cool to see this
Thank you for another great episode!!
Always love seeing your comment Cindy! Thank you!
Great job keep up the good work
Thanks Adam!
Excellent video on the inner workings of a motor coach company. It takes many moving pieces to get people to where they want to go. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Hank! Appreciate it my friend!
Seems like a great place to work! Who knows, maybe I will work there one day...
We are Hiring! Are you in the Peoria or Urbana or Chicago land area?
Excellent video.. an excellent job.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed Michael! And again, thanks for all your gifts!
I'm a driver, and I work with the cleaning crew!! Itz a learning experience for me and I get a Lotta crazy negative attitude from men about driving a bus!!! Aint that crazy!!!
nice insight into the bus business
Thanks Carl!
I like how this makes things more personal, it's not just a "company". Great video.
Thanks David! Im glad you enjoyed this one. I was hoping this one wouldnt be too boring for people.
Hello James. As always a great video. While I enjoyed seeing the crew behind the driver's seat at your company I really enjoyed that D model sitting to your left. Glad to see it still out there in revenue service. Stay safe and God Bless you and your family.
Thanks Dru. Man after my own heart. I love those D's .
Hi James, new subscriber here! I have worked for a small family owned charter company here in Adelaide Australia for the last 3 years, I came to them with 17 years of bus and coach driving behind me, we have a very small fleet of 7 57 seater coaches and 5 24 seater mini buses. We do local work only, mostly with school field trips and such! Interesting to see how things are done in the United States!
Greetings from Coach Canada, you make excellent videos, keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words JustoSumitUP! I appreciate the comment!
Very informative Vlog James, I worked for a large Transit business and the biggest problem is communication both up the chain as well as down the chain. It really helps when the employees view themselves as a important part of the family or the big picture. That helps to over come those bumps in the road. The only thing yout missing is a good human resource department/ person for the in-house employees.
You are awesome! I loved this video!
Hey Keywan! Thank you my friend! You need to come over to Illinois and drive for us. Can you imagine you and I vlogging together??? We are always looking for good people!
@@MotorcoachWorld If I could I definitely would! I’ll definitely come out and visit at some point in 2022! I’m due to visit home in Wisconsin so I’ll make a pit stop in Illinois!
Hi James nice to see a new video out. Once again you don't fail to get your points across. In some my comments I mentioned I used to drive coaches and got sidelined by a medical condition. Over the summer things have changed and once i am sure of what lies ahead I am going to get my DOT physical and get my Class A CDL again. I was doing that before i went in to coaches. Why class A? I live in the middle of nowhere and as you can guess there are no charter companies for miles around. I guess the few advantages of driving a semi is that your pretty much your own boss. You don't have the smell of fried chicken driving you nuts and the freight is quiet and don't talk back to you.. The CDL school is 12 weeks. Very comprehensive. When I get my DOT card I start in Mid January of 22 so I can be on the road mid April. Also the only CDL testing site is done at the local community college. The nearest DMV testing site is about 100 miles away in Asheville.. 3rd party testers. Stay safe and warm out there. .
Hey Michael. Thanks for taking the time to write this! I enjoyed reading your post.
I saw that Volvo at the end! 🥰🥰🥰
I saw one of Peoria's coaches the other day in Illinois and got so excited, like hey I know them!
Hey Lawrence! Our buses are everywhere. Do you live in Illinois?
@@MotorcoachWorld I'm visiting Illinois from Arizona.
James, great rundown of company positions. As you have the company IT sorted do you have any solutions for the luggage handling? It hasn't changed for decades, still a back-breaker!
Hey blue yonder. Yes we actually have luggage handlers. We hire students to help with that along with any office staff or technicians that want to help out.
Some days everyone is either out driving or loading.
Here is a link to a video I did on luggage loading.

Great video as always! Would be cool to do a video on your favorite engines
Yes I will definitely do one about engine. And what Kitty? I didnt see a kitty cat.
@@MotorcoachWorld It's the engine :)
@@marklapointe48 lol 🤣 got it
I hear you I've worked at Boeing for over 20 years and the communication can be very frustrating at times thanks for sharing your company with us.
Thanks for the comment Brian Davis! What did you do at Boeing?
@@MotorcoachWorld I'm a machinist there
James, I sense an unhealthy distrust of outsourced/offshore IT services. At the University I work, I manage drivers, repairs, purchases and do some limited driving. I have a crew of 3 that wash and clean buses. An assistant that schedules, and one mechanic. Great video.
lol
I m a bus nut. Driven for trailways, northwest lines, grayling. I m 75 and a bus nut. Retired, know all the brands, and want to work with you
Live in Seattle now. Always ready .
How cool that you are in that role. What do you say when dealing with new drivers who have never had a travel based job?
Its a huge commitment...
I tell new drivers a lot of things but I guess I really want them to know that Family should always come first. If this is going to ruin relationships then dont even start!
Great question Adam!
Excellent video James. When people see a coach rolling down the Interstate they probably do not envision how many people it takes for that coach to be rolling down the highway. Being an old retired driver when we returned to the garage we serviced the toilet, fueled and swept out our coach after each trip. But I have a question, do dispatchers work 24/7 or is there someone at each facility if there is a coach and driver on the road. I may have missed it in the video but who handles Safety. Thanks for the video.
Hey Robert. Thanks for the comment. Thanks for pointing that out. I totally forgot to mention that. The VP and I handle safety and compliance. You are absolutely right. People do not realize how much work and team effort to get a bus rolling.
I’m a data analyst at a flatbed truck company. Our company set up is quite similar.
Very interesting! Thanks Kmonnier!
James, great video as always. Question for you. Do your drivers plan their own routes or is that the job of the dispatcher/someone else? I often spend hours looking at Google maps optimizing my own routes trying to beat the system to find better routes than offered and using street view to further understand certain aspects of a trip such as large interchanges. Then when I get out on the road I feel as if I’ve driven the route already. This seems like an interesting thing to do professionally even though I’m pretty sure it’s not a way to make a living.
Thank you John. We let our drivers plan their own route. But if they need help, our office staff or other senior drivers are there to assist.
@@MotorcoachWorld Thanks for the quick reply! I like the level of autonomy you give your drivers. If I didn’t live up in WI I’d totally consider working for you. It’s very clear watching your videos how much pride you have for PCC and the staff.
Hopefully when I'm 25 I can work for your company
I found this channel after spending some time on a concert tour bus (it's a bus in the music world, even if 'coach' is the better term). Sleeping on a top bunk, far away from the center of gravity is unusual, but surprisingly pleasant. Between bus life and many hours at the wheel of a 26' box truck, I'm curious about driving as an occupation. What would the training look like? Can driving a coach be a 'side gig'?
I'd love to see a video about what licenses/endorsements/registrations you need to be a coach driver. What are the prerequisites for joining a training program? What would I be learning?
I'd also be interested in tips about how to handle a large vehicle if you've just rented one for the first time. What passenger cars can do on the road to help large vehicles when merging/overtaking/etc?
Hey Abstract Tom. Sounds like you have traveled a a lot. I actually made a video explaining what licenses and endorsements one would need to drive a motorcoach in the US.
Here is the link

But the question would be a great video topic. I will add that to my to do list.
The facility Coordinator surprised me. I work in "facilities" but it involves the maintenance and operation of the physical building (custodial, maintenance, grounds keeping - that sort of thing). Interesting to see that title used in that way.
Thanks for the Comment Chris!
Yea,that position should be called fleet manager.
@@lilred1107 to each their own I guess.
Do you have a mobile tech truck if a bus breaks down close to the terminal? Your videos are a good recruiting tool for your company also.
Hey Mr J- Charles. Yes we do. They come in quite handy however they cost a lot!
Hi james, is there any chance to be a driver in peoria charter even if I'm from the Philippines? I am a articulated truck driver for 8yrs and a year as Bus driver here in the Philippines. Check out of victory liner inc.
For a cross country charter, would Peoria contract work out to other operators? I'm speaking of other charter companies or line operators whose drivers would handle swap outs.
Hey Beau. Yes sometimes but we have never contracted out legs. We like our passengers not to have to switch buses during their trip so its a seamless move. So if we sub contract, we always sub out the entire trip if we dont have the buses or drivers available.
@@MotorcoachWorld I wasn't speaking of swapping out buses. I'm not an industry insider so I was imagining like line operators (say, Greyhound) interline on certain routes with other carriers, maybe Peoria used a similar system, especially for longer charter trips, where it was still a Peoria bus but with drivers and maintenance from other companies beyond certain points where Peoria using Peoria drivers wasn't feasible. Forgive my ignorance. I've always been fascinated from a young kid with bus operations. Thanks.
Gotta say, diesel techs are way under paid for how important their jobs are.
Hey James y'all train people to get their CDL
Yes we do. Paid training.
What is the little fish on the side of vehicles?
Its a religious Christian symbol.
Was that a spare tire coming out of the front of the bus?
Yes, I suppose that they put it there on that model to save luggage bay space. Every bus that I've seen the spare tyre on, they keep it in the luggage bay. That space is a very smart place to put it!
Hey Steve! Good observation. Yes on MCI's Van Hools and Prevost's, the spare tire is stored in the front bumper.
Yes Bree! Agreed!
Do Ur Company Has A Tow Truck
We do not. Not a bad idea though LOL.
