- FBI Director Christopher Wray painted a stark picture Wednesday during a congressional hearing on Chinese hackers, saying China is targeting critical infrastructure across the U.S. and that not enough attention is being paid to it. Wray also announced that an FBI operation had disrupted hundreds of U.S.-based routers hijacked by a state-sponsored Chinese hacker group known as "Volt Typhoon."

Very simple solution, just don’t connect any of these systems to the internet. The company I worked as IT Manger for in 2005 we had all out computers in the US connected to a private network, nothing touched the internet, We obviously were never hacked.
In 2005 the internet was not so heavily integrated into private networks as they are today. Today a private network with no internet access is practically worthless for most companies.
Your full of s***. The national grid went offline for 2 days in 2005 because of a computer glitch. The problem with our infrastructure technology isn't the software...it's the fact most of our infrastructure was at end of life 20 years
Do you not understand the impracticality and sometimes even absurdity of air gapping civilian infrastructure network project. What's the point of a system if a client can't access it, I mean if you want to you can have a teller/operator do it for you but at that point you just moved stress point a bit further down the line, instead of fixing it. And to be fair if you cannot ensure your system is safe from attacks than that says more about the company than it does about some unknown "chinese hackers"

Nowadays most businesses depend very heavily on access to real time data that can only be provided by the Internet.
I design industrial systems for a living -- sometimes clients want their management to know the state of their machines down to the very sensor and motor. You can't achieve this without connecting the machine to the Internet.
No shot, it's more of a insider threat issue for those enterprises

What I don't understand is how critical infrastructure can be accessible by hackers. Shouldn't those systems be insulated from external interference? The digital systems should be engineered in a way that they can't be remotely accessed without a worker's physical presence and authorization. Unless it is actually the workers who have been compromised by the CCP?

Its a good thing our power grids are completely unprotected, and are borders are wide open, letting in hundreds of thousands, if not more, of Chinese Nationals. How about our government do something about this threat, instead of wasting time and money on nonsense. If we used half of the money we sent to Ukraine, we could have hardened our power grid, which if is taken down on a large enough scale, we would never recover from.
Is this way real? You introduce AI, then set up this hypothetical as a pipeline for what they unleashed. Its their turn to make money first. There will be no privacy. If they can get in and make their money first you wont even know it was missing.
