    Serious question:
If Huawei already works with the Chinese government anyway, why don't they make the processors/computers for government work with their own chips which are much, MUCH, better than the x86 crap ZhaoXin has churned out? Sure, it's ARM, but there are plenty of Linux distros that support ARM processors, including my personal favorite, Deepin OS, which is also made by a Chinese developer team. Some Huawei laptops even ship with Deepin OS, although they ship with the x86 installation, not an ARM processor and ARM distro. Wouldn't it make sense for China to pour all their tech funding into one company that has already proven adept at basically everything they need, rather than basically making a government backed kickstarter?

Got to give them; They have the right idea with the NeoKylin / Ubuntu Kylin etc. Make it as windows like user interface as possible at first to minimize learning. Once people get accustomized with it and the backend, they can start slowly changing it.
This is what is missing on the linux world, i know i could get tons of people to move to Linux if there was very precisely similar UI to windows available so people don't have to re-learn basic usage at first, just package management / how to install apps would be initially odd and weird. Personally my first experience with Linux was in school, we were using openSuse, which I later installed on my old laptop to revilatize it and... it was a nightmare. Recently though I got interested in Manjaro, installed it and I've been using it for about a year now exclusively, I was AMAZED how much easier it is to use than Windows is (not saying that Manjaro is the only one that's simple to use, plenty of Linux distros are). Want to install something? Just type in what you are looking for in package manager and everything is downloaded and installed for you, no need to search through websites! Oh, and searching for stuff actually works, so that's nice.
Basically unless you absolutely require certain programs that straight up don't work on Linux (like PhotoShop), Linux can offer a smoother experience than Windows

Manjaro had absolutely the smoothest integration of KDE I've ever seen, but it's also by far the least stable distro I've tried. That's including Arch, SUSE Tumbleweed, and Debian Sid; all three of which are true rolling releases unlike manjaro. I also really don't recommend the AUR, some of those packages are put together by complete lobotomites.

For example, rather than right-clicking an icon in your systray, simply type "How do I change my DNS server settings _this_ year?" into the Start menu and you will be presented with a short sequence of incantations.

The funny thing is Kylin isn't even the first Chinese Red Hat derivative designed to ape the appearance of Windows, the entire Kylin series was predated by another CCP-backed Linux OS called, in a rather appropriate irony, Red Flag. Red Flag started development in 1999 by the Chinese Academy of Science and had a couple moments of prominence in the Chinese computing scene, in 2000 many CCP government agencies were told to replace Windows 2000 installations with Red Flag, and in 2008 internet cafes in Nanchang were being ordered to swap to it from Windows XP. Its development kind of fell by the wayside in the latter half of the 2010s, with many people reporting its discontinuation around 2014, although the specifics are a bit less than clear due to the usual pitfalls of finding information on CCP government projects.

Price aside, it strikes me as a reasonable work station for the average mid level employee's work desk. Running spread sheets, data bases off a server and word processing should be about seamless. It shouldn't have too much trouble with internet browsing and watching low resolution videos. Gamers aside and price aside and having a low power consumption I think it should work pretty well in a non competitive environment. And keep in mind, elsewhere in the world, power is a way bigger deal. There are places where a 500 watt PC simply isn't doable.
As to the price issue, I assume that private people currently need to compete with the government in China. Competition keeps prices up and so do government contracts. I don't see any issues that would keep the price high whenever the appropriate time comes.
Most interesting, is China's move to Linux. With China's massive user base it's likely that they are going to put some real effort into the Linux OS and we may see Linux spread world wide out of China in popularity.

I don't know if you know this. Many companies (like Apple for OSX and Sony for their PS3/PS4 operating system) prefer BSD because the license is more 'generous', their license allows to use the code, change something and close it down. So companies who want a free foundation but want to close it down can do that. The GPL-licenses do not allow that. I can only speculate about it but that might explain why the Chinese at first chose to use OpenBSD. The switch to Linux can be easily explained: Linux is much better for regular desktop-usage. It has more software which these users need and it can handle Windows-only software (and gaming) much better. However, developers love to use BSD-systems (just for themselves, where they write code on). Just so you know, there is a good chance that you could have improved the performance of those games and that benchmark with a few small tweaks, specifically by using the latest Proton, using proper settings and installing the aco-compilers from Valve.

The newest variant of this chip has i3/bulldozer level performance but with 8 proper cores/threads. Good enough for business and mid-end gaming.

I like the fact that it's basically an IBM/Lenovo case lol. The CPU kinda reminds me of older AMDs, like AMD2000+ where the die was basically exposed.

I'm reminded of Linux Mint and its sister project, Linux Mint Debian Edition, or LMDE. Linux Mint, the official, mainstream version, is based on Ubuntu, while LMDE delivers the same user interface and overall experience, but based directly on Debian Linux. For comparison, if I heard you right, it seems there are a couple of Kylin distributions based on Red Hat Linux, and then there is Ubuntu Kylin, which is based on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is based on Debian anyway.
