If you need religion to be moral, you need more than a dictator to 'govern' you.
In many cases religion will distort a person's moral compass and allow them to justify atrocities. Look at 9/11, those men thought they were backed by god. And the Bible is chock full of genocide and slavery in gods name. Theres a million examples of atrocities being committed in the name of god.

In 1974 I was a senior in college, a major drug dealer on campus and a very successful thief in my spare time. A close friend gave my name to the police to draw attention away from himself, and warrants were issued for my arrest. After hiding for a day, I turned myself in and was jailed. I was charged with multiple counts of grand larceny. I had a personal conversion when I asked God to take over the driving & change my life. I instantly felt the weight of my sins leave me. Friends would tease me after I made bail about holding revivals when I went to prison. I never ratted on anyone who stole things with me. I described what I had stolen to the police & took lie detector tests to help verify my descriptions. Eventually, after multiple confessions and making restitution on what I could; my attorney went in to plead with the District Attorney. I was assured he could get the multiple felonies reduced to petty theft (1st conviction) and a fine of $500.00 (1974 dollars). After 15 minutes my attorney was back to me. He said "Praise the Lord, Gordon, he's agreed to dismiss all of the charges." It turns out the DA was a lame duck and had just returned from a one week honeymoon that morning. Yes, I see daily how Jesus has guided and protected me for almost 50 years. I hope someday you have a reason to throw yourself on God's mercy.

Americans have been ruling themselves for almost 248 years, and we don't need some "strong-armed ruler" to sweep in and "save" us. We do not need to be told how to think, feel, and worship (or not). We are more than capable of figuring that out on our own.

These Christians will be more than happy to put their boots on some necks to usher in this new Imperial Age, thinking that they are performing the will of their “god”. They most likely won’t ever realize (or admit) that they had been bamboozled and used, even after they wake up one day to find their own necks under the Imperial boot.
Christians have been led to believe that they’ll be the ruling class, imposing their version of “morality” upon what they see as lesser humans. Republicans see Christianity as a tool that can be disposed of once they’ve used it to seize power for themselves.
Seems that they don’t see it as putting a boot on their necks, but putting a boot on the necks of those they believe are nonconformists, not having hereditary roots, and marginalizing those people who worship another god.
