Yep people always go on about The English being privileged and rich so I ask ''so there weren't poor people peasants?'' And how many slums ,tenements in Victorian times were the right up to the 1970s even now some very poor people.

It was a hard ride in England for our ancestors at all times until the last 40 years or so.
I think the British Empire is exaggerated in terms of it's wrong doings. We fought to end slavery where as others, especially the Arabs kept it going.
