Today’s video is one that shocked us and we are hoping it shocks you just as much! As we reviewed This new WEBER Kamado we saw a ton of amazing features that really set it apart from the competition. We almost found nothing we disliked about this grill.
As always lets star with what we really enjoyed! With the Weber Kamado we see one of the best and efficient ways to clean out our ash. Now this is huge, most Kamado’s you have to remove all the insides and throw you shot vac in there and get it our that way. With this Weber, we look at some really nice tech with their innovative ash clean out that doubles as air control. This tech allows you to give the ash a shake and empty it out into a little bowl that you can the remove and toss in the trash. This was a game changer because we can now keep a clean steady airflow through the entirety of a cook.
Another outstanding feature we loved is the Jet ignition (that’s what we call it) Now this thing is one of a kind that we have never seen on a kamado style device yet. We get a classic green camping propane tank and screw it in, turn the switch and a massive flame is produced in the bowl. This will ignite your charcoal real fast. Why is this a nice feature. Usually when starting your kamado, you gotta reach in there with a blowtorch and do it yourself. With this you just turn and burn and then once the charcoal is lit you turn it off. It’s as easy as that with the Weber Kamado.
You might be thinking, “Aren’t Kamado’s supposed to be made out of ceramic?” The answer is no, Weber goes against the grain and makes a kamado out of metal. This metal is double walled to hold heat very well! They go back to their classic Weber roots with the shape as well. We were happy about this product. And you can count on it being in a new TOP 5 Video coming soon!

Got an employee discount from one of my customers on my Weber Summit Charcoal Grilling Station ( old name ) when the pandemic started. I have become an expert now on slow cooks, and smoking. The table is fantastic and convenient. You can hook the grill racks on the side of the table side, and hot things can go on the rack underneath the cooker. This grill does it all, and can be easily moved. I would recommend a Fire board 2 drive to monitor temp.s, and maintain temp s that much more with a blower system. SnS Grills just recently reintroduced a low profile slow and sear ( which I wanted in the first place ) to fit these models, that's a huge stainless steel charcoal basket, with a water trough to create steam and create a better divide for cooking zones, and I ordered a cast iron griddle pan/drip tray that will fit next to it. My system will finally be complete. Get to go outside, get away from the wife, and not smoke up, heat up and smell up my kitchen and house. I use it all year long.

Part of me says get the gas grill now for the convenience and keep using the kettle for any longer cooks or where I have more time.

I have the cartless version of this without the side table and the gas starter (already have a large gas grill, pellet grill, and other clutter on my patio, plus it's a relative bargain at ~$700 cheaper). It's a really great all-around charcoal grill and smoker. I owned a ceramic kamado (BGE) for about 10 years previously and much prefer this double-wall metal design to ceramic. Ceramic is crazy heavy and fragile. Most people are going to break their ceramics and see their paint craze deeply long before the porcelain coating on these starts to fail if treated reasonably carefully.
Contrary to this host and other people, having actually owned and used both types, I honestly don't think the heat-soaking behaviour on this is appreciably different than ceramic kamados. In other words, if you overshoot temps by 50+ degrees it'll take a long time to cool down. It might be a smidge faster if you were to time it with a stop watch, but it definitely won't fall rapidly. It generally cooks identically for BBQ/low and slow (super moist inside).
The cleanout system is a *major* plus relative to traditional ceramic kamados. I often use standard Kingsford briquettes (blue bag). It works great (no clogging) and cleanout is very easy with this (this would *not* work with my old BGE, plus cleanout would be a bear since briqs produce lots of extra ash). It also doubles as a grill better than most ceramic kamados because of the multiple levels the charcoal grate can sit at--you can get closer to the coals and easily set up two-zone cooking since it's quite spacious inside.
Overall, this grill is appreciably better in most ways than ceramics, and it's priced better than ceramics from reputable companies like BGE, Kamodo Joe, etc. If you're in the market for a reliable kamodo to use as an all-around grill (read: >=22" diameter cooking grate and quite expensive), I *highly* recommend this grill.
Edit: YMMV, but the gas starter wasn't a selling point for me at least. I have an old Weber Performer (kettle) with it and rarely used it. I don't think it saves much time or is much lower effort. I toss a paraffin starter cube (or one of those newfangled infused tumbleweed things) in the charcoal to start for low and slow, come back 10 minutes later once a few coals are solidly lit, and close it up. For hot and fast (e.g., steak), you really want to use a chimney to get all the coals lit rapidly and have the charcoal grate on the upper level (where it'll light much more slowly if you're using the starter)..... I don't see it'd save much effort or time the way I normally do things. I wouldn't reject it other things equal, but I certainly wouldn't pay much more for that feature (side table is much more useful if you need the space!).

This is all I need to know. It’s great that you e had a ceramic Kamado as well because that’s what I’ve been trying to compare. I live in a region that can get quite cold in the winter and thought the ceramic may crack over time when it heats and cools in the cold weather.

    Good presentation of the Weber.
I've been grilling and smoking for over fifty years; I've used a cajun water smoker, a horizontal and vertical smoker including Webers Smokey Mountain plus a number of different grills. But my most recent purchase has impressed me so far. And that is the Oklahoma Joe's Bronco. ( barrel smoker and grill )

I've been loving my Big Steel Keg smoker for over a decade now. This is the same concept, a double walled insulated steel ovoid. No worries about ceramic cracking, and the exterior always stays cool. This Weber looks like a worthy successor. My concern is controlling the air intake with the ash cleaners. I'd want something more precise. A properly operating smoker does not create enough ashes to need a lot of cleaning. This seems oriented toward a frequent griller who smokes occasionally.

Hey Trevor. Nice review. I have owned my Weber Summit Charcoal for 3+ years now and wouldn't trade it for anything. If I ever bought a ceramic cooker, I'm positive it would be a Kamado Joe, but my Summit has handled everything I've thrown at it (low & slow, hot & fast, searing, baking) so never a reason to consider switching.
That said, one of the biggest reasons I went Weber (aside from build quality) was the double wall (air curtain) insulation and the ability to adjust temp back down more quickly if I overshoot. I also love that it already has a port on the underside for adding on a fan controller for longer cooks. So easy and no adapters needed.
Anyway...I did have a question. Do you know if the new diffuser plate will fit the older Summit Charcoal grills? They changed the design and I like the handles better than than what's on mine.

This thing kills any ceramic Kamado, no questions about it! Having the first gen summit, charcoal grill, is the best purchase I ever made. Every cook is consistent and controllable, not like the ceramic equivalents. Burn efficiency is also out of this world. My brother in law has a big green egg and has to use a fan controller to manage low and slow cooks. He also has a fancy lighter to ignite the charcoal, which cost a small fortune. The summit is Worth every penny, and it’s a Weber damn it!

I think you are right about the agitator not being a long lasting product, the one on my Weber Performer Deluxe lasted 7 years before going kaput. The rest of my grill looks basically brand new, even though I have used it a lot over these last 7 years and I have never put a cover on it. Even though it is rather expensive, I am thinking about upgrading to this model in the near future, primarily because I want a great grill with a solid smoker combined into one unit.
