      Same! I’m 48 and use anti-aging devices (they do work!) and also have several skincare steps. Cold cream and moisturizer were my only steps until I was 46 and I have work to do. It’s nice to take time for self-care for the first time in my life 💕

    I hear you about tools, especially for ages 20s and 30s. But 40s and 50s, they can be a real game changer. If you can’t afford office procedures, these at home devices can really take your skincare to the next level if used regularly. So 100% agree with your advice, until aging really starts to show, then it is worth the investment in my opinion

      Most of those tools are pretty costly also. I'd love to try the L.E.D. lights, but at upwards of a few hundred dollars to purchase one that works, I sure can't afford the risk that there won't be much payoff... I don't really have any gadgets just for that reason, although people would have to pry my face massaging thingy I keep in the fridge out of my dead hands... it just feels too good, especially in the hot Arizona desert. 🧊

      @@thescarletgraywitch8052 have you tried the Pure led tool? I got mine on Amazon and it comes with 3 face tools and a hair comb for your scalp and was around $30. I got the red led because I wanted the anti aging benefits vs the blue for acne. I also got a killer Black Friday deal on PMD pro. I love to use it after I have applied my nightly skincare for the heated massage.

    A few years ago I had a dry, flakey, red reaction to adapalene and treated it with Paula's Choice Intensive Care overnight moisture mask. It really worked and I was able to use adapalene again. I've since moved from adapalene to tretinoin with better results for anti-aging.

I do not even moisturize in the evening while using tret. You are definitely on point in saying hydrating products can cut out a moisturizer. Hoping you are having a wonderful Wednesday 😘

    Vitamin C not an essential?!😆 I know for a lot of people that’s true, but for me it’s worked wonders and I love it, it’s up there with retinal. I’ve eliminated a lot from my routine this year.. mostly because I’m done experimenting and found my favorites. I still love toners though.♥️

    Hi Rob I am not a minimalist lol, but an essential step is moisturiser for me. I'm super dry and whilst during a rosacea flare I have to be very minimal, an essential is moisturiser and probably an oil as well. I can miss out the toners, essences, serums, masks etc etc etc, but I cannot skip moisturiser. I think that highlights a big difference in the needs of different skin types, as yourself with oily skin feels that you can. The thought wouldn't even occur to me tbh, as it's such an essential part of my skin's needs. I can and do miss out a lot of the things you probably think you need eg BHA, AHA and foaming/gel cleansers, but when my skin is really dry and reactive these further dry me out. The retinoid, azelaic acid and urea I have in my routine provide most of the cell turnover and exfoliation I need, so missing out exfoliating acids is not unusual for me. I'm quite happy to use a balm, oil, milk or cream cleanser alone on days I don't have a full face of makeup - without the need for a double cleanse on those days. During a rosacea flare my skincare has to be super basic and as gentle as possible, so just a cleanser and a moisturiser can be all my skin will tolerate (plus a mineral spf during the day).
    The other things like devices, vitamin c, spot treatments etc I rarely use anyway (I have a Foreo i use a couple of times a month for a deep clean). We're all different and our essential products will be different too - that's ok and half the fun of it anyway. Best wishes.

    This is such an interesting video, because I debated long and hard about buying an LED device. I came to the conclusion that knowing myself, I would use it for a while, then it would sit in my drawer gathering dust. I have also stopped doing face masks. When I would try a moisturizing mask, I would always get a spot or two. I have had the same products for over a year now, and my skin has never looked better!! (I have added TO's Alpha Arbutin serum twice daily, and after two weeks, my hyperpigmentation has already improved greatly!)

    And tools can get unbelievably unhygienic very quickly.. 🙀
    One thing that I do have, that might be very unnecessary for the average person, is my skincare fridge. It’s not a little pink glittery thing that won’t even fit 5 litres, but rather a smaller, black refrigerator that’s in my room. It comes to good use since some of my products benefit from being stored in a cool and dark place (retinoids, vitamin C) and other products (toners and eye creams) simply feels so much nicer when they’re giving a little cooling effect ✨😻✨

I much prefer Japanese and Korean sheet masks like Kose, Abib which is my fave, and other ones like the Benton centella masks, BoJ centella masks and the Dear Klairs and PKY one. I cannot wait to try the Mad About Skin products, especially the serum!!
    I also have a weird nose situation. It's really the only oily, large Pore area still on my face, but it was so hard to justify buying a salicylic acid serum just for my nose so I use an acne "spot treatment" serum just on my nose. It's the Pacifica acne warrior, and it's a salicylic acid serum with a bunch of other ingredients and actives. I find it works wonders on my weirdo nose, and I like that it also works well as a spot treatment if I do get a blemish. I really only have a blemish show up if I am sick with a flu or something like that. Not sure what that oddity is about, but I suppose it goes along with my annoying nose skin so I am glad the one product covers both situations.
    I must confess that I have trouble picturing myself as a skin care minimalist... I don't think that's ever going to happen. 🤣

    I do need a vitamin c serum and my derm has recommended I have them. Agree about most tools, especially ones to clean your face as you really do only need your hands I agree that masks aren't necessary but I do love them and I feel I pamper myself when I use them. I have heard a lot of dermatologists who say you do need a moisturizer even if you have oily skins so disagree there. I do feel that specialty eye creams are not needed . Use your moisturizer not an eye cream.

    I've been a minimalist all along ... for years I had no skin care routine at all! [I'm lucky, I have very good skin.] Now that I need a little help, I have as small a routine as possible.
    My skin loves ascorbic acid! I never had any irritation, and it definitely makes a big difference for me. I use it most mornings (unless I forget). I haven't found a sunscreen I like yet, so I usually go without - I know, I should wear one anyway, but I just can't.
    I have three other "actives" I like to use that work for me: retinal, copper peptides, and a chemical exfoliant. They don't play nice with each other, so I use each twice a week in the evenings.
    I have a couple of different moisturizing products, I might use one if my skin feels dry.

    • @NavilleT
      @NavilleT 2 года назад

      there's no point in using all of that if you don't protect your skin from the sun, it is just undoing all of your hard work

    • @lizcademy4809
      @lizcademy4809 2 года назад

      @@NavilleT With respect, I disagree.
      First, I spend very little time outdoors, and if I do, I always use SPF, even if I hate the feel. I just can't bring myself to using SPF every day, even if I'm going to be inside working on the computer.
      Second, I'm still helping my skin with good care. It may be a "two steps forward, one back" thing, but it is definitely better than if I did nothing.
      Third, I have genetically good skin. In over 60 years of minimal sunscreen use I have absolutely no pigmentation issues, no wrinkles, only a few fine lines. [My avatar photo was me, no makeup, no Photoshop, in my 50s.] Most of that time was with no skin care at all.
      Fourth, I always tell everyone I know to wear sunscreen as much as possible. I would wear it more if I found one I could tolerate, and I am looking for one. I thought I found one, but it was part of the Korean sunscreen issue last year.
