  • With fewer Christmas markets in Denmark this year, we decided to travel down to Gavnø Slot and soak in the holiday cheer. We had a fantastic day walking through the stalls, drinking glogg, eating æbleskiver, and exploring the castle.
We highly recommend visiting! There are also beautiful gardens worth seeing in the springtime. Don't forget to bring you dog as it is a pet friendly location. Brisket had a blast running through the leaves.

If you get a chance and haven't already done so, you should visit Frilandsmuseet in Kongens Lyngby when they open back up. It's a super interesting walk through homes and lives in Denmark going as far back as 1580. And you can bring your dog, which is always a bonus.

This is absolutely on our list. We can almost walk there from our house so we were neglecting it a bit and had hoped to go at Christmas. It is one of the first things we will do when all opens again :).

Hey, If you like you can take a trip to Dragsholm Slot = Castle. It´s 800 years old. Beautiful castle. A get a round tour. Or book a room, and go on a ghost hunt a night :-) Cheers

Never heard of Gavnø before, but then again, we have 1413 islands in Denmark and "only" 443 of them are named.

Looks cozy. Also for non car users, it is definitely possible to reach Gavnø. The railway between Ringsted and Næstved is currently shut for electrification and speed upgrades but it should reopen before the end of the month if I recall correctly. By then you should be able to get the Regional Express train with DSB from Copenhagen into Næstved in about 40 minutes. And from there, there's a bus that comes about once an hour called the 604 which stops about a kilometer from the Castle. So it is definitely possible and can possibly be done as quick as by car if you time your connections well.

If you get the chance in December 2021, try and go to Hamburg or Bremen for their Christmas Markets, you won't be disappointed!

Yes! We did get to Lubeck and Hamburg our first Christmas here in 2018. They were both great! We will try to get to Bremen this year as we've not been to that market yet.

Great video 😊 Always exciting to visit different places and especially historic ones 😊 I can recommend “Oplevelsescenter Nyvang” in Holbæk (opens 22th of april) where you can experience how life and everyday life was in Denmark in the mid 1900 😊

6:26 It sounds like they're playing "Bagerens Sang" from "Vinterbyøster" a old Danish Christmas calendar.

Nice! We were wondering what the song was as we’d not heard it before but assumed it had to be Christmas themed. Thanks!

U guys are propably pretty fed up with me, trying to help out on the pronounciations; The G sounds lige G in Govern, the 'avn' in Gavnsø is the same sound/pronounciation as ' oun' in ounce. The ø-vowel is again like the 'ea' in earning...
