No idea if you are a professional or not, but this is a performance of the highest possible level. The tempi are better than in any other version I have heard. My respect to you.
This performance is technically brilliant and captures the style and spirit of the music perfectly. You also manage to make this small upright piano sound like a concert grand!
My favorite part is how casual this is. "shorts and t shirt on my piano. Just another day in the lab" lol Sir what do you do for a living? If your answer is anything other than kickass concert pianist or kickass composer I'll be really confused...
I was searching for Richters version of this piece, and when I missclicked on your video, I thought "Well there's no way he's better than those who can't reach richter.." But you were. And you are. And I'm so incredibly startled by your performance, you're incredible. In this song, I dare to consider you being better than Lisitsa, even though your piano hasn't got the legendary sound of her precious bösendorfers. You really amazed me!
Perfect, literally! I did not hear one error. Your interpretation was excellent. I had lost hope of finding any decent recordings on youtube, then I found yours. THANK YOU!
Hello Mr Barton, thank you for posting my favourite interpretation! I am nearly on grade 4 of piano and am looking to play more pieces above my level since I'm quite good. I hope to play this not too long from now!
This piece obviously resonates well with you...very dramatic too. I can just visualise the cracking ice on The Don and the Volga at this time of year...wonderful stuff Paul.
Great performance! Paul Barton channel is such a Vital Energy resource in this rainy day :) Listening to this, the rain is getting heavier, then I might as well look for Thunder! Paul, I think you should adjust your chair little lower. cheers! -KJ-
Personally, I prefer Chopin because I find his music easier to relate to. A common opinion comparing the two composers is that Chopin wrote his music for himself, and Rachmaninoff wrote his music more with the audience in mind.
Great stuff. I'm blundering my way through this piece at the moment. Find the "B" section difficult atm. How relaxed your wrists are have made me decide to concentrate on Hanon for a while...
great playing Paul ! reminds me the excellent playing of Valentina Lisista (a lot in the beggining). I'm just wondering how many years/time of practice for an adult is needed to play Rachmaninov's Prelude (op 23) they are so beautiful !! I have 4 years of praticing now..
You are a phenomenal pianist, been watching ur videos, very intelligent use of everything your body has to offer, amazing! May I ask you, I am a pianist myself, but I have really big problems with repeating chords or octaves in fast tepmi in left hand, can u please help me how to conquer this problem? Best of luck, and thanks for the inspiration :)
I've got about four years playing experience so far and I'm going to ATTEMPT to learn this but I'm not sure how well it's going to go. It all depends on your personal playing ability though
Oh my god! you play amazing... that was astonishing! Excellent performance :) Greetings from México I love almost all the pieces you play... this is one of my favourites! you should try playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement or Appassionata 3rd Mov. as well XD again... nicely played
This interprestation is great! It is very similar (except the end section) in many ways to the Josef Hoffman recording for the Duo-Art company in the 1920s. Compare them on RUclips!
Love how relaxed his wrist look.

Hi Paul, do you receive request from us?By the way, how old were you when you started the PIano?
You play it by memory! Wow! I do mean Wow! How long did it take you to perfect it like that?
Can you record a better sound quality?

Mr. Barton! could you please consider a moonlight sonata 3rd movement tutorial for your to do list? :)
Can you please give me some tips about the version I made ,you play it so beautifully:)
Hello mister rachmanioff
Love this piece, like this version, but I think I miss a bit of rubato... my opinion :p
