The Skyrail Midorizaka Line (スカイレールみどり坂線, Sukairēru Midorizaka-sen) is a monorail/people mover line operated by Skyrail Service. The line runs between Midoriguchi and Midori-Chūō, all within the new town called Skyrail Town Midorizaka, Aki, Hiroshima, Hiroshima, Japan. The line is officially called Hiroshima Short Distance Transit Seno Line (広島短距離交通瀬野線, Hiroshima Tankyori Kōtsū Seno-sen).
The line uses a new "Skyrail" rail transport system developed mainly by Kobe Steel and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It is a fusion between a suspended monorail and an aerial lift. Driverless gondola-sized cars, suspended from a single steel track, are moved by an attached cable. Inside each station, cars release the cable and move by linear motors. The technology allows the line to climb steep slopes of up to 14 degrees, while also being able to navigate curves of up to 30m radius.
In November 2022, it was reported that the company had decided to terminate operation of this route due to profitability, including maintenance costs, and was considering switching to electric buses (EV buses). The original plan was to terminate the service at the end of December 2023, but this was changed to the end of April 2024 due to delays in the construction of facilities and the granting of permits to the relevant authorities for the EV buses, which were scheduled to start operating at the beginning of November of the same year.

I'm having trouble giving "thanks" due to RUclips not liking my commercial blocker. I'm so sorry. Please tell them to fix that

    Spectacular and beautiful!
However, sadly, this is also a really bad example of a gadgetbahn, something that looks futuristic but is in reality not fit for purpose. Just two stops in a large new housing development that was built for cars, and has nowhere the capacity to carry more than a tiny fraction of the inhabitants, unlike the the roads we see below. (Also, the ride seems surprisingly bumpy.) Japan has a number of gadgetbahns which, although not really better than more conventional railways, are at least operated well, and carry lots of passengers (the Tokyo Mnorail or Yurikamome come to mind), but this is not one of them. This community would have been much better served by something like a conventional cog-wheel railway with more stops and much higher capacity. Or electric buses, as is happening (because roads).
