Awesome video, when I was 18 (52 years ago) for a short time I wanted to become a pilot. Before I started down that path I realized that I lacked the coordination flying takes. That did not bother me and I went down another path in life and am very happy about that. I still have the greatest admiration for those who fly. Thanks for sharing your experience
Found this video for a surprise. This is the first time I ever get an idea how the helicopter works. Thank you so much sir. You are a true roal model...
Used to take an R44 (not the same, I know) for my work commute up on a glacier during the summer here in Alaska and always wondered about the start up. Tried to get the pilot to walk me through it like you've done, but never happened. Thanks for the great video. You've sated my curiosity of the general run through and piqued my curiosity to learn.

Always hated training in a Robinson R22. Very difficult to fly. My instructor switch me to an enstrom. An absolutely dream to fly. Very stable aircraft. You make flying look easy. You’re a talented pilot. Thanks for the video. It brings back great memories.
Hey Micah hope all well. Thankyou for creating this video. I am flying an Enstrom 280c here in the UK today. Its been around 6 years since I rated on the 480 so back to basics to get back into flying. Keep safe to you and your family.
I was a Crew Chief on several Fighter Aircraft but most of my years were on F-15's. I was Max Engine Run Qualified and spent many, MANY hours sitting in the cockpit running engines for various maintenance issues. Great in the summer for AC and great in the winter for heat. Point is I had to go through these checklist for starting and running the engines. Pretty important stuff...especially for emergencies. Of which we had quite a few!
I was a bit disappointed when the Chinese bought Enstrom. Nice machine. it had a good size baggage compartment for a small helicopter. Nice and descriptive video. Fly safely.
Honestly, as long as Enstrom keeps producing spare parts I don't really mind that it's Chinese owned. FYI, I toured the factory last year in Michigan. Great people working there and the company seemed to be doing ok.
I started my PPL in a Cessna 172, only got a few hours into it then had to put everything on pause. Now I am preparing to return to lessons/ground school but have since decided to switch to helicopters. I can only hope to find an instructor as calm, coherent, and competent as you. Thank you for sharing :)
thank you for your swift reply. $15K is still much more affordable than the A$60K (australian $) that I found out quite a few years ago. It's a dream I have to be able to fly an aircraft, fixed wing or helicopters, just for the love of flying. thank you again.
colin mark why don't you look into flying paramotors? You don't need a pilots license and you get a better of an experience with the wind blowing on you and you can look everywhere without panels and dirty windows restricting you to get the full experience👍😉

BEST VIDEO EVER OF POV. I've flown a few times in small cessna type planes, did 2-3 pilot trainings and been in a helicopter once and have to honestly say that the cockpit of a plane makes me claustrophobic but in a helicopter i feel right at home
This is the perfect helicopter instruction video. He literally answered all of my questions about helicopters. For example, I use to think helicopters were unsafe due to if the engine fails, I thought they just dropped from the sky. Well, according to the info of this pilot they do not, you can actually glide them to safety. Well done. Very nice video.
King Snowman helicopters are a lot of fun , but I still prefer fixed wing lol. Airplane wants to fly and is stable. Helicopters are the complete opposite .

Always wanted learn to fly a chopper even though I have never been in one, but you made me feel like I was right there with you, it felt like I was going up . Awesome thank you for the ride and the lesson.
Just at the beginning. After doing it many times, I am sure it will be easy for you. I know because, after working on the Air Force F-16 for 20 years, all the controls and indicators make things look so complicated the first time. I used to start the jet for engine runs after we installed the engine and shut it down after the maintenance checks were done. Sometimes secured the jet and do an afterburner run. No checklist for the emergency procedures and power settings. Bad things happen quick and you don't have time to flip pages. Technical book procedures, power settings and indicators are all memorized and you will be tested on a simulator after few months to stay certified. You better pass or you will be in uniform in front of an officer explaining why you didn't pass in some cases....no pressure. Let the control tower and maintenance operations know where you at and your intentions before starting that jet, otherwise you will be surrounded by the military police aiming their weapons at you.
I've never even sat in a helicopter until just now. Perfect camera position. I felt like I was setting in the back seat. It's as if I could feel the power as the engine and props roared to life. Usually I'm not very apprehensive about a video, but this ? Had my heart racing a mile a minute. Huge adrenaline rush too. God this was Awesome ! Mate, as a aircraft engineer, that restraint system looks to be about fucked. The loose threads are a big concern, a few loose threads or a small amount of chafing can degrade a belts useful load by 75%. The other thing of concern is that the anchor point of the shoulder harness is well below the shoulders, anything more than 5 degrees can cause spinal compression in a high forward velocity crash, probably not much you can do about that though as it is the design.
Awesome. Just awesome. I've only taken one helicopter flight and it was a jet helicopter to a fishing camp in Northern BC. I loved your breakdown of how everything was being performed and why. Very good.
Nice video... I've always liked the Enstrom 280. What do you figure your hard operating costs are? I received my Rotorcraft Private over 25 years ago. Been in a 530F. Lots of fun. Find myself using it mostly to go golfing due to the +$650 an hour operating costs. If I need to actually get anywhere I strap on an AeroStar 700. Considering going down to an Enstrom. Your bird looks to have been well taken care of. Also, why do you fly 500AGL? I'm usually hanging around at 300AGL.
Well, I've spent a fair bit sorting out the kinds of maintenance issues that accumulate with a nearly 40 year old helicopter. But with most of that finally sorted the big costs are insurance and fuel. Given your flight experience insurance should be fairly cheap. As for fuel she burns about 15 gallons per hour. Figure $100/hour depending on the price of av gas in your neighborhood. The bigger question is how you'll feel stepping down from a 530F. The Enstrom likes to cruise at 90-100 mph. Assuming the comparative lack of speed doesn't bother you it's a great ship for flying solo or with one passenger. FYI, I've never actually flow one but I've always dreamed of owning a 500 of some sort. Blame Magnum P.I. Oh, and I like 500AGL because it gives me more emergency options when flying around densely populated Los Angeles. That said, I'm comfortable flying lower when I'm out in the boonies. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing your flight I only wish it were longer I just subscribed to your channel I only have one question do you also fly fixed wing aircraft ? ~Buck
I havent a clue how i found this, but this is a fascinating video! Thanks so much for uploading this! Im hoping and praying you have done some more! Thanks alot!
It might've changed in the 9 years since I got my license but $10-15k is a rough estimate. As for mastering it, I'm still working on that. And probably always will be. That said, I flew my first solo after around 20 hours of flight instruction.
That's cuz the protagonists in movies often make terrible choices and get away with them... If you were in a zombie apocalypse you would not want to get into a helicopter. It is possibly one of the least efficient machines on earth. You'd be better off finding a large bus or RV.
Good one! Thanks for touching on effective transitional lift. I learned something. Explains why my current birds (RC quadcopters) get better battery life when hover time is minimized.
Sounds like he was a CFI. There are only two kinds of helicopter pilots. Those who have crashed and those who are going to crash. 😂. I mean auto to the ground, when I say crash.

Thanks for sharing your flight I only wish it were longer I just subscribed to your channel I only have one question do you also fly fixed wing aircraft ? ~Buck
Uncle Buck Thanks for the sub! To answer your question, nope I'm a dedicated helicopter pilot.
Uncle Buck punjabinews
Felt like I was there. Too awesome. Thank you.
Flying 1978 Copter would scare me tbh
Hopefully it is better built than a VW Beetle! LOL
@Nob the Knave I'll take my chances with the more modern Tech
I thank you very much for the lesson, a great instructor and class.
I need a loan to start my helicopter flying school
me to 😩
I havent a clue how i found this, but this is a fascinating video! Thanks so much for uploading this! Im hoping and praying you have done some more! Thanks alot!
how much does it cost to learn how to fly a helicopter? and how manny days or months does it takes to master it?
It might've changed in the 9 years since I got my license but $10-15k is a rough estimate.
As for mastering it, I'm still working on that. And probably always will be. That said, I flew my first solo after around 20 hours of flight instruction.
Micah Muzio oh, wow! but is the
$15k money just for one session or is that for the whole 20hrs training?
Jay Sanity That would be for everything including ground school and instruction in the aircraft.
That would be about £40,000 here in the UK because we get ripped off for everything including our fuel!
Canada: 100k
I own a Greyhound Bus and the pre drive is also long! Love the Helicopter
I'm glade ain't no zombies coming (madlee)
Thanks for the informative video. I had no previous interest, yet I was fascinated/entertained...
if there was a horde of zombies you would already be food
Definitely. For zombie escape, my startup procedures are much faster with a lot less talking.
Brandon Vessell you watch too much movies😂😂
That's cuz the protagonists in movies often make terrible choices and get away with them... If you were in a zombie apocalypse you would not want to get into a helicopter. It is possibly one of the least efficient machines on earth. You'd be better off finding a large bus or RV.
Brandon Vessell i find under those conditions I move faster. ;-)
Micah Muzio you need to make a video on it. 😂
Good one! Thanks for touching on effective transitional lift. I learned something. Explains why my current birds (RC quadcopters) get better battery life when hover time is minimized.
Starts like my lawn mower 😂
sounds like my wife!
Great vid, loved it. That ground mid rev wobble makes me admire the hell out of test pilots! Good flying!
I took two helicopter flying lessons and ran out of money but then I found out my instructor a few months later crashed and died
Sounds like he was a CFI.
There are only two kinds of helicopter pilots. Those who have crashed and those who are going to crash. 😂. I mean auto to the ground, when I say crash.
That is the benefit to be poor . Lol
Weird, same thing happened to me. Shame, my instructor was a lovely guy.
Karl lol is this common????
Nothing beats the joy of flying a glider, and it's not expensive at all. If you enjoy flying, look into that.
Great video. I always wanted to get a ride in a helicopter with copter jockey. One that really knows how to fly his machine.
