  • Welcome to Episode 3 of The Hunt for the UK's Greatest Driving Roads. Today we head out to the amazing Yorkshire Dales national park - it's an area of the UK that has so much to offer and is well worth a visit if you're into driving. With less traffic than some of the other areas we have visited in this series, it is certainly possible to enjoy the roads in full. The Buttertubs Pass also offers up some brilliant scenery.
    Hope you enjoy the video!

    You 100% did the best loop in that area. Whipperdale is the only one better in the other direction, you can take the road north out of Redmire to meet up with the other end of Whipperdale and come back across the other way.
    If you're looking for spectacular routes here's my North Pennines > Yorkshire Dales supercut:
    Start at Derwent Reservoir on the B6278, South to Middleton in Teesdale. Then to Brough, then Tan Hill, turn right at Tan Hill and come through Keld and then Thwaite, do Buttertubs, then onto Ribblehead Viaduct. Turn left to Settle. Finish. About 80 miles of continuously great roads and epic scenery.

      Wow yeah that is an incredible route actually, I've driven most of that in separate parts but will have to try it in one go at some point!
      I love the area up at Derwent Reservoir, incredible scenery up there and some decent roads too. But that segment from Stanhope to Tan Hill is some of the best. We live in one of the best parts of the world for driving roads, I'm sure of it!
      Thanks for watching!

      @@FootToPedal Yeah I ended up doing it yesterday for the first time as part of a 260 mile loop. It made me realise you could string together all these great roads with very little connections in between. We definitely live in the best area for it, Wales and Scotland may have some better roads but in terms of accessibility and traffic we have the all round best deal.
      You should also do the Helmsley road B1257 then loop back through Byland and Hawnby to Osmotherley.

    • @FootToPedal
      @FootToPedal  2 года назад +1

      Yeah fully agree with you, we are surrounded by national parks, great scenery and great roads, that are usually quiet so perfect for driving!
      I'll have to check out that route, I've done part of the road out of Osmotherly before into the NYM but that sounds like another good section down in the Helmsley direction!

    • @DubsnSubsSessions
      @DubsnSubsSessions 2 года назад +1

      @@FootToPedal The back roads between Helmsley and Osmotherley are tiny and in some parts not suitable for anything even slightly low, more like a tarmac rally stage. The Helmsley road is probably the best road of them all. Newgate Bank to Chop Gate is beyond description but test it first so you know where the jumps are. From Helmsley going towards Pickering the road from Wrelton to Rosedale then up to Blakey is pretty great too, I'd always choose that over the Blakey road. I'll stop spamming your comments now 😅

    • @FootToPedal
      @FootToPedal  2 года назад

      😂 yeah there are some very narrow ones out in the Osmotherley area, have filmed a few things there before.
      One of my favourite segments is that road from Blakey through to Rosedale Abbey, fantastic road that is.
      Ahaha no not at all, great discussing some of these roads with you! 👍

    I always tend to go the other way from Hawes over the pass and then end up at the Tan Hill Inn. Going that way makes you NOT travel so close to fiery death via the 'rope' barrier

    • @FootToPedal
      @FootToPedal  2 года назад

      Ah yes I know the way you mean, the roads up at Tan Hill are good too, filmed a review over there before. And yeah, that rope barrier was a bit alarming, pretty steep drop 😂

    What’s the coupe like for longer drives? In terms of comfort and sound? For example a couple of hundred miles down to London on tbe motorway? I’ve had a couple of Z4’s in the past, but both convertibles! Love them and know them pretty well but abit compromised as a daily for obvious reasons. And not the most comfortable place for a drive up or down the country if needed . Really heavily considering a Coupe! Thanks in advance

    • @abbasmushtaq137
      @abbasmushtaq137 2 года назад +1

      P.S just realised I commented this on the wrong video! I was referring to the Z4 Coupe. sorry man!

    • @FootToPedal
      @FootToPedal  2 года назад +1

      No problem at all! The Coupe is pretty good for long drives actually, however if you did a lot of them I wouldn't recommend the Coupe to do it in. It's perfectly fine but there are other more comfortable and economical options. I've done many long journeys in mine and found it to be comfortable overall, but I don't do more than probably one or two longer journeys a month.
      It's more at home on a set of b roads.
      Hope that helps!

      @@FootToPedal yeah that sounds spot on. I guess I’ll just have to test drive one! Definitely not going to be a frequent car for long distance but good to know if needed it’s a good place to be that gives you confidence. Keep up the great content :)
