I did not use the template at all. I actually never even unfolded it. I would recommend just using the holes as guides and marking directly on the surface you will mount to. Be sure to be aware of where the bolts will be in your most used position so they do not have a chance of hitting the jaws. Hope this helps.
I ordered the 750 DI and received it today, I am very happy with it with one exception the supplied template does not fit the vise.
